Leah’s P.O.V

Three hours after Emmett left, the nurse stopped by to tell me that the doctor had signed my discharge forms and that she would get everything ready for me while I waited for my father to come and get me.

“Once your dad is here, the doctor will come and explain some things to you both, okay? Here are your clothes. You can get dressed in the meantime. “ 

Knock knock

“That was fast. I’ll be done in a second, dad.”

“Uhm Leah!”

Who the hell is that? Could be the doctor, but the voice doesn’t sound the same. 

“Who is there?” I asked. 

“Hi it’s er.. Shaun from school, Emmett’s best friend.”

Oh, god, what did he want? Was he here to hurt me too?

“What do you want? And who let you in?”

“We need to talk”

“I have nothing to say to you”

“Look, I know you are going home and that your dad is on his way… I also know that your dad doesn’t know about what Emmett has been doing to you.”

I moved out from behind the hospital curtain where I dressed and felt my way back to bed.

“You have two minutes”

I said to him

“Emmett’s been arrested.”

“Serves him right!”

“Leah, he loves you!”

“Loves me? Because of him, I had no friends. I hated school because of him. He tortured me every day of my life, left me with scars inside and out. Look what he has done to me and you're telling me he loves me! Piss off Shaun, you are only here because you think my dad can help him.”

“No Leah, look, it’s something he needs to explain to you, but just listen, he didn’t mean to do the things he did to you.”

“f**k off shaun! How can you still take his side in all this he. Hurt. Me.”

“Because he was taught that that is how one expresses love!”

“What! That’s insane!”

“Hi baby, are you ready to leave? Oh, hi, who might you be?”

Dad asked Shaun when he stepped into the hospital room.

“Hi Mr Lockwood, I’m Shaun, a friend of Leah.”

“Nice to meet you young man!”

“Same here Sir! I’ll take my leave now, Leah, listen to what I said okay, and I hope you get well soon!”

“I have already signed your papers, so let’s head home. I need to speak to you about something, but we can do that at home okay.”

Dad led me out of the hospital and helped me into his truck, but all I could think about was what Shaun had said. 

“So the doctor said you can remove the bandage tomorrow. He gave you some drops for your eyes and a prescription for contact lenses.”

“Okay”

“That guy, what did he tell you?”

“Nothing dad”

“You know, don’t you?”

“Know what?”

“About Emmett?”

“Yip.”

“Look honey, I’m doing my best so that he doesn’t serve time. Don’t worry about him, he's a tough guy.”

“Okay”

Oh, dad, if you only knew you wouldn’t help that asshole at all.

“What did he do?”

“Shaun didn’t tell you?”

“Nope”

“It’s work Leah. I can’t really talk about it, but I also know that you will just be worried about him. I can take you to see him if that’s what you want?”

“No”

“Leah! He's been at hospital every day for the past two days. The least you can do is be there for him too.”

Ag you’d keep him far from me if you knew the truth dad, he isn’t the nice guy you think he is, and I’m sure whatever he did to get locked up he deserves it.

“I just want to rest dad. I’m tired”

“Okay, I have to head back to the station. Do you want me to pass on a message to him for you?”

Yip. Tell him I hope he rots in prison and that the rats will eat him alive. I thought

“No dad, is my appointment for the brace removal still on today?”

“I thought you’d want to postpone it for when you are a little better?”

“Nope, I still want to do it. I’ve been waiting so long now to have it removed.”

“Okay, I’ll drop you off at the dentist, I’ll head to the pharmacy for your other things, then I’ll come back, okay?”

“Sure”

Dad helped me into the dentist's office, gave off my details and then left to get the stuff for my eyes. This sucked. I couldn’t see s**t, and I probably looked ridiculous with this bandage around my head.

I did want to know what happened to get Emmett locked up and as much as I hated him for what he had done to me, I still had that crush I had on him when I was little. Stupid right? How do you like someone that bullied you every single day of your life?

Someone that left so many scars on and inside my body, how could Shaun even say that Emmett loves me? What Emmett did wasn’t love.

“Leah Lockwood?”

“Here”

“Oh, let me help you!”

The nice dentist helped me into the room and up on the seat, adjusted my seat and then started with the removal of my braces while talking to me.

I was finally getting rid of this s**t! Thank you, God.

“And we are all done”

The dentist announced after an hour.

I’ll just give you a quick polish, then you’re done here, okay?”

“Thank you”

My mouth still felt a little funny from the injection, but it was okay that the hideous braces were finally gone and so were the glasses. All that needed to happen was get rid of these bandages.

Fifteen minutes later, and we were done, he helped me back out to where dad was waiting for me.

“Wow look at you”

Dad said

“Yeah, I would love to see them, but I guess I’ll have to wait a bit.”

“Ready to leave?”

“Definitely, get everything from the pharmacy for me?”

“Yes I have. I asked for clear contact lenses. Hope that’s okay?”

“Yes dad, that’s perfect thank you.”

“Want anything to eat before I drop you off at home?”

“Please dad, the hospital food was horrible”

Dad stopped at a pizza place and ordered a large pizza with extra cheese, some mushroom pasta and soda, then we headed home.

“Okay kid, I have got to go. Call if you need anything.”

“I’ll be fine dad, I’ll just stay in my room, so I don’t end up falling down the stairs. I have food and snacks. I’m good.”

Dad kissed my head, then left. What to do now? I couldn’t watch a movie or paint, I couldn’t play a game or my phone or read a book, and I wasn’t tired either. Damn, this sucks.

I asked Siri on my iPhone to play some music, but that wasn’t set up! s**t it’s not like I knew I’d be unable to use my eyes. Wonder if I can remove this s**t from my eyes.

I felt around for the package from the pharmacy dad left here on my dresser, found you! I started by removing the bandage and the eye patch. Okay, this is it!

Opening my eyes hurt, and the light didn’t help either, but I was determined to finally see again, so I tried opening my eyes again.

The light blinded me momentarily and my eyes burned, so I laid down and put some drops in them. Easier said then done. I battled for a while but finally got it right, then just lay with my eyes closed for a while.

I tried to open them again. It hurt but not that bad. Now to slide in these contact lenses, after unsuccessfully trying seven times, I finally got them in.

It was a bit scratchy, but either way, I think it would have been the same if I had to wait until tomorrow to do this. I put some more drops in and as the minutes went by I started to get used to them.

Now I just had to take it lightly, no television for too long or anything that could strain my eyesight, then I remembered I still hadn’t seen how I looked without my braces.

Looking in the mirror gave me some confidence I never thought I had before I looked… normal for once, I was no longer little Miss brace face, and the hideous glasses were a damn plus to loose them. 

I hate to say this but thank you, Emmett Daniels, I look f*****g gorgeous!
