POV: Shea Vestine

She had been having trouble sleeping that night because all that was running through her mind was Denver’s words.

But what’s more, making her damn sleepless was his letter before she even went home.

*** Flashback…

Her mind was drifting away, and she had no idea how to deal with it. Little did she know that her chaotic state could be even more chaotic than it had already been because she had received a small note on slipping into her small clutch bag.

She even looked around to see if anyone was there.

But there’s no one except her.

‘Be my mate.’ – D. T.

That was all that was written on that note.

T.?

She suspected that someone was teasing her – but her instincts told her that it was Denvereaux Thorne who had left her the note.

Her spine shivered at that thought, but at the same time, she also felt the anticipation lurking inside her.

Shea was truly surprised that she instantly kept the note and swiftly went home.

She was truly happy and ecstatic that she had finally met her mate.

However, she was scared because of a lot of possibilities.

She knew that she had prayed for a strong mate – but she couldn’t believe that she was destined to be with not just a strong wolf but their Alpha, of all people!

Shea wouldn’t deny that she was certainly attracted to him.

Who wouldn’t want him?

But it wasn’t all about Denver.

It was about herself.

About her – who was just a docile and weak wolf girl.

She couldn’t even shift and maintain herself in her wolf form for about five minutes, for goodness’ sake!

How could she even become his mate?

She was just a meek lady who had this curse of having a weak wolf within her. She was scared that they would throw things at Denver because of her.

Yes.

Digging deeper into her thoughts, it wasn’t because she was scared of what other people might say to her. But it was about what they would say to Denver.

She would just be dragging him into her mess, and she didn’t want that to happen.

With that thought in mind, she finally fell asleep.

Shea woken up with a loud banging sound outside her door as Lexi shouted and called her name at the top of her lungs.

“Shea, wake up! You bratty witch!”

It wasn’t the first time Lexi had done things like that to her.

She bet her mother and Uncle Leandro had left the house, so she was now behaving like a señorita, primadonna, or something.

Shea let out a deep sigh as she instantly got up and fixed herself.

“Shea!” Lexi called at her loudly.

“Yeah! I’m up! Wait a minute!” She shouted on her end.

“What the f*ck! I am starving! Cook something now or else!” She heard Lexi warn her before stomping her feet away from her door.

Shea let out another weak sigh.

Her stepsister didn’t change at all.

But then, her cheeks burned as she remembered the reason, she had woken up late that day.

Denver.

She bit her lower lip as she tried to calm herself from the giddiness she was feeling.

“Make it fast! We still need to practice! The new beta wanted to see our shifting forms.” Lexi annoyingly told her.

She could feel the coldness in the pit of her stomach.

Who wouldn’t, right?

She knew that Connor was already not part of their pack. But his friends and even Lexi were still there and were always ready to humiliate her under whatever circumstances they had a chance with.

Shea let out an inaudible sigh.

She didn’t know, but she was hoping that Denver wasn’t there to watch them.

Or else, she was truly doomed!

‘He might be turned off.’

She suddenly felt so saddened with the idea that came into her mind – causing her to trip and accidentally push Lexi and herself to the ground.

“What the f*ck!” Lexi instantly shouted as she swiftly got up.

While she was still on the ground – trying to feel whether she had hurt herself or something.

“You are truly such an annoying creature, Shea!” Lexi furiously yelled – which she might add was already causing them a scene.

Shea got herself up as she tried to tap her already soiled dress.

“This is a new dress, and you ruined it! Damn it!” Lexi angrily accused her.

Shea tried to go near her and help her clean her dress, but she just smacked her hand away. She flinched as she felt a bit stung.

“Don’t come near me! You’ve done enough!” Lexi gave her a death glare as she spit those words at her.

She shook her head and fearfully looked at her stepsister, who was seething now in too much anger at her. She knew what Lexi could do. She could even slap her last night, and she was afraid that she would hurt her again.

Despite the fact that she knew she’s going to humiliate her again.

“You are truly such a disgraceful b*tch! Look at my dress! It’s all ruined because of you!” Lexi maddeningly shouted.

“But it was an accident. I just tripped and-”

“Oh, like really! Whatever you say, Shea. Why do I need to get to this point right now, right? I know how weak you are! You are such a weak – in human form or even in your wolf form! Who am I to be surprised?” She loudly commented – causing everyone to whisper, and she just knew that they were all talking to her… again.

She must be accustomed by it by now, right?

But the humiliation was still seething inside her – making her wolf at bay.

However, if she were to shift right now and be uncontrolled or to shift again in her human form – naked and vulnerable, she would just make things worse.

She shut her eyes as she bowed her head down.

“What?” Lexi sardonically asked as she moved forward.

“Is that all you can do now? Playing like you’re a victim here again? That I am an evil stepsister?” She gritted her teeth as she said those words.

“No! Because I just want you out of this pack! You are such a disgrace! Why can’t you just leave and go to the South! You don’t belong here!” Lexi yelled – her eyes welling up with tears.

Her words stung, alright.

It hit her to the core.

But she knew that she was right.

Then, a name suddenly crossed her mind.

“And who are you to say things like that?” A cold and deep voice was interjected between them all of a sudden.

Her blurred vision instantly flew at the man who had spoken those words. She didn’t know, but her heart still fluttered at the mere sight of him – despite her eyes dampened with unshed tears.

Everyone gasped in surprise, and no one dared to talk. Even Lexi seemed like a mute or something. She was certainly shocked to see Denver standing near them – with his dark expression.

Their eyes met, and she let out an inaudible gasp.

His eyes were so intense, and a lone tear escaped from her eyes, which she instantly wiped away – clearing her vision of what was happening in front of her.

“A-Alpha…” Lexi tried to call Denver – but he just clenched his jaw and stared at her stepsister with deep fury written into his eyes, causing them to turn a darker shade of gray. 

 “Tell me who the hell are you going to decide for her and tell her to go to the South Side?” Denver angrily snapped – though his voice was still low and cold.

Lexi swallowed hard.

“But it’s true! She still had no m-mate and-”

“And who the hell told you that?” Denver cut her stepsister’s word.

Her heart began to thump hard inside her chest as her mind suddenly turned haywire.

“W-What… But she still d-doesn’t have a m-mate. Right?!” Lexi loudly said as she feverishly looked at her – asking for a confirmation.

She swallowed the lump in her throat as her eyes met Denver’s now gray eyes.

Shea could feel that same feeling again – like she wanted to be with him, as if she desired to be encased within his warm embrace

“Shea!” Lexi angrily called her – breaking her dreaming state.

“H-Huh?” She said, bewildered.

“What the f*ck… You b*tch!” Lexi was about to slap her, and she just closed her eyes – anticipating the pain from her hard slap.

Her heart was pounding so fast inside her chest – as fear was slowly engulfing her and making her wolf growl helplessly inside her.

However, she felt nothing. She didn’t feel Lexi’s supposed to be a hard slap.

She slowly opened her eyes – only to be shocked as she saw that Denver was already holding her arm, stopping her from hurting her.

“Don’t you dare hurt her.” His voice was low but menacing.

“Or I will kill you myself.” He viciously added before he pushed Lexi’s arm – causing her to be shoved on the ground.

“But w-why?” Lexi wrathfully inquired as she saw her eyes moistened with tears.

Denver just shot her a glaring look.

“Because she already had a mate.” Denver repeatedly stated before he looked intensely at her.

Shea didn’t know what to do. She was so dumbfounded. She knew that she hadn’t come up with an answer to his offer yet, but did she still have a choice?

“She is my mate.” Denver declared as she could hear whispers from the people around them.
