As the echoes of gunfire reverberated through the mansion, I wasted no time in arming myself, reaching for my gun tucked away in the wardrobe. It felt familiar in my grip, a cold weight that offered both comfort and reassurance in the face of danger.

I spared a fleeting thought for Lev, grateful that I had sent him back to college when news of the impending war reached our ears. He may have grown up in this world of violence and bloodshed, but he had not been groomed for it like I had. It was a relief to know that he was safe, far away from the chaos that threatened to engulf us.

With my weapon in hand, I rushed towards my father's room, my heart pounding with a mixture of anticipation and dread. I knew what awaited me on the other side of that door, and yet I pushed aside any doubts or fears that threatened to cloud my mind.
