KORA’S POV
“Are you insane?” I sat on the sidewalk and burst out crying. I wept so much I didn’t know I had so many tears in me. The man in question just stood by his car door and let me finish. “I am sorry for acting this way, I’m just going through a lot,” I said with a whimper. “That’s fine, do you want a ride?” I nodded slowly, he helped me up from the sidewalk and led me to the passenger seat of his car. We drove in silence in what seemed like forever. I heard him clear his throat and look at me. “I know you must be wondering why I cried so much back there. I am going through a divorce.” I didn’t mind oversharing. I wanted to yell about it, lament, and rant about my situation to anyone who could hear. “I don’t believe in marriages, I believe marriage shouldn’t exist.” I didn’t want to object, if I had met him a few days ago I would have argued and bragged about my husband and loving marriage. I sat there staring blankly. We stopped at a Ramen noodle restaurant. He stepped down and got takeaways for both of us. Immediately he handed it to me. I opened it and feasted on it. I didn’t realize I was this hungry till I got a whiff of the aroma, I had not eaten for a hot minute and I lost a lot of blood. I looked at the man beside me, he seemed to be amused instead of disgusted with the way I was eating. “I am hungry. All I could think about was how to hurt the people that hurt me.” I swallowed and wiped my mouth clean. The man grinned a little. I just realized that I was in this stranger’s car and he gave me food, I didn’t question his character. He looked at me, I had a worried expression on my face. “I am Derek Reyes,” My eyes widened. Derek Reyes? A billionaire Ceo? I was shocked. “The Ceo of Reyes corporation?” I had to be sure because anyone could want to impersonate him. He was known and unknown. Unknown because he has never graced any function and is also known for being the richest man in the country. “Yes, now I have an offer for you.” “What offer?” “Let’s get married, I will help you get your revenge.” Derek Reyes wants to marry me. “You seem like a good man, but I can’t marry you.” “Don’t flatter yourself, I am doing this because my parents want me to get married and I don’t want to, they won’t stop till I settle down. We can agree to be married to them but live separate lives privately, and in return, you will get your revenge.” I looked at him with disbelief but I knew he was serious. I didn’t want to back down from this offer but I needed time to think about it. He dropped me off at Devon’s house and placed his card in my hands, he drove off quickly. I took a deep breath, adjusted my clothes, and walked in. I met Lydia in the sitting room stuffing her mouth with grapes. “Hello sister, what are you doing here?” I asked myself the same question, I had no other option. Devon and I bought this house and this was the only house I had. A few years back I asked my parents to buy a house for me because they had recently bought one for Lydia, they told me she was the heiress. I worked hard and bought mine when I got married to Devon. I paid no attention to Lydia, I packed the clothes I could and left the house. As I headed to the gate, I met with Devon. He had a huge smile on his face, he passed without acknowledging my existence. Sooner than later Lydia jumped on his body and plastered kisses on his face. “I missed you, baby,” Devon said with a hearty laugh. I dashed out the gate without waiting a single second. I decided to go over to my parent's house and inform them of my situation. On getting to the house, I asked one of the servants to call my parents downstairs for me. I waited for almost an hour before they reluctantly came downstairs. “Kora, what a pleasant surprise.” My mother spoke as they marched down the stairs. “Yes, pleasant indeed. You both are not aware of what Devon and Lydia have been up to these past few days?” I questioned with a heavy heart. “Yes we are aware, frankly speaking I told you I never liked Devon but you insisted that he was the one for you. And of course, he picked the person he thought was up to his standards, let their love blossom she is your younger sister.” My mother said with a shrug. “I agree, you can find another husband. You don’t expect Lydia to be unhappy now, you know how she is.” My father coined it. “Lydia Lydia Lydia, it has always been about her and never about me! Don’t I get to be happy?” I questioned, picked up my things, and ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I sobbed under a tree, then I remembered that all hope wasn’t lost. Mr. Reyes. His phone rang for a while before he answered. “Where are you?” “At Dam’s coffee. Second avenue, 5th street.” Within a few minutes, he was in front of me. I entered into his car. “I knew you would be calling back but I didn’t think it would be so soon.” “I am ready.” “I know you are,” Devon brought out the contract and a pen. “Sign here and there.” I didn’t bother to read it because there was no way my life could get any worse. I signed quickly and handed over the document back to him. He handed it back to me and then pointed at it. I read the document. It read that we wouldn’t be intimate, and also we would be together till both of our plans were fulfilled. My estimated time was a few months and his was at least 2 years. My eyes widened in realization. I wanted out immediately but I read the defaulter's punishment. Fifty million dollars will be the compensation f*e. “Welcome, Mrs....? “Miss Kora.”Kora’s PovDerek thought it would be a good idea to take me shopping, but he had an impromptu meeting so he left me with the bodyguards. I couldn’t prefer it any other way. I felt suffocated when I was with him. I went over to the make up store and scanned through some mascara, concleacer and some packs of contact lenses. I admired them as I walked past.“You can’t afford those?” Lydia emerged from behind the shelf, my stomach turned with anger.“Lydia, are you following me now?” I moved away from her slowly, I thought maybe if I left where she was I could avoid her but I was wrong. As she followed me I hastened my steps, trying to get to the parking lot and go back home, I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Miss, may I please search your purse?” I turned around to see a middle aged lady, staring at me in a condescending manner. I looked straight to the other end of the hall and I saw Lydia walking slowly and smiling in my direction.“You should search her properly,” Lydia insisted and w
Kora’s PovThe chirping sounds made by the birds gave me my cue to wake up. My eyes slowly adjusted to the light in the room, this does not look like my room. My eyes darted wide open and I looked around the room, I looked at my chest and realized I was completely naked. “What the?” I stared at Derek who lay peacefully by the side of the bed. Did we? I slapped my forehead, unable to remember anything that happened. I remembered Derek, warning me about my last drink before I blacked out, I also remembered begging him to make me his. I couldn't believe we had sex, how could I be so irresponsible? I picked up my clothes from the floor and wore them quickly.“Why are you in a hurry?” I stopped almost instantly, I turned to meet Derek’s piercing eyes, and I shyly turned away without any hesitation.“I just wanted to go to my room, I don't have any reason to stay here,” I was not going to confront anything right now, I needed time to process everything.“About last night, my emotions got t
Derek’s PovAfter a decent meal and a couple of drinks later, Kora got extremely drunk. I never knew she was this light-headed, she stumbled several times on our way to the car, and I placed my hands on her waist for support. It felt like she was having too much fun, I couldn’t help but admire her slurred speech and funny movements. Finally, we reached the car and the drive home was very far from quiet, she sang to every song that came on the radio, regardless of whether she knew the lyrics or not.“Are you good?” I asked while my eyes were focused on the road.“Never been better!” She screamed. We finally got home and sat on the couch, She moved closer to me and put her hand on my leg."I've been thinking about you all night," she whispered.I felt a surge of desire but tried to maintain control. "Kora, I don't think this is a good idea."She leaned in, her lips brushing against mine. "Why not? Because I'm drunk? Because I'm persistent? Or because you're afraid of how much you want
Kora’s PovA few hours later, Derek announced he was feeling so much better. I walked into the kitchen to make him the soup I had made earlier when I overheard some of the maids whispering.“She doesn't even know what happened to Calisi, she was tortured!” One of the maids whispered in terror.“She always had a black eye anytime I saw her, and she was terrible at covering it up.” Another maid spewed.“I pity the new miss, she doesn't know who she got married to. Miss Kora still thinks she was lucky, poor girl.” I stared in shock, who is this Calisi? If all they have said is true then I have made a big mistake. Not that I believe them completely because maids love to gossip, but I've come to realize that they are not completely wrong most of the time. I had maids back home who spoke about my dad’s secret affair with another woman. That was how my mother came to know about his infidelity. Of course, she didn’t leave him, I’ve never seen my mom express her emotions. She only expresses ha
Derek’s Pov“Kora, wait!” I sprung up from my bed drenched in sweat and an awkward need for water. I gulped down the water by my bedside within a few seconds. Kora, she was all I could think and dream about. It was already enough that I thought about her all day, but now I see her in my dreams as well.It has been a week since we almost became intimate, and I haven't spoken to her nor have I addressed what happened, Kora has been oddly quiet these past few days. I'm sure she is worried about losing the contract. I tossed and turned before I could finally fall asleep again before I could fall into a deep slumber my alarm went off. I groaned out of bed as I adjusted my eyes to the bright light.“Cancel all my morning meetings.” I quickly informed my assistant over the phone. I wasn't in the mood for the board meetings today. I freshened up and went to have breakfast. As I sat on the chair to have my morning coffee, I realized I had lost appetite, it wasn't tasting the same. I wondered w
KORA’S POVThe day came, and I wore the most expensive jewelry I could find in my jewelry room. Yes, I have a whole room dedicated to just jewelry. After I dressed up, Derek was already waiting for me in the car. He wanted to show off just as much as I wanted to. We weren't close but he wanted to help me get revenge. He was already in the planning phase, now that everyone knew I was married to Derek, he could act on his plans. We drove to the location, I was confident with the amount of luxurious items I wore on my body, my husband was also popular and was termed the wealthiest man in the country last year. He was more handsome than Devon was, now that I am not blinded by my love for him, I can see that Devon wasn't particularly my type. “Ready.” I smiled and held Derek’s hand tightly. The doors opened, and a bright light welcomed us. This wasn't the house I and Devon bought, the house he took away from me. I was too weak and betrayed to fight for the house. Well, this mansion was
