KORA’S POV

“I told you to only white covers, can’t you do anything properly?” I yelled at one of the servants at Derek’s mansion. We have been married for a few months, it wasn’t as bad as I imagined it to be. I met with his parents and they didn’t seem to like me very much but they were glad that Derek was finally married.

Derek on the other hand couldn’t be more distant. We were married but we haven’t slept in the same bed, and no, I wasn't complaining I love it. Derek was respectful, he gave me everything I needed. He didn't maltreat me but he didn't make me feel special either. I was more like a stranger living in his house. We have only attended family gatherings together, we were yet to announce being a married couple. One day Derek came home famished, the servants were busy preparing for his parent's visit the next day. No fresh meals were cooked, so I quickly tidied up something for him. He at to the brim, I could see he was satisfied with his meal.

“Who is the servant that made this? That person deserves a raise.” I blushed as I heard those words, did he enjoy my food that much?

“The servants were busy so I made your dinner, I hope that is okay.” Derek's face dropped, he stood up abruptly and took his leave, but before he exited the hall he turned back to meet my eyes.

“It was nice, but next time stick to the contract.” He turned his back and left me standing there with a teary eye. I blinked away the tears. The next day we put on fake smiles and charades about being the perfect couple. I was respectful and elegant. They left after dinner and I couldn't help but think that one way or the other I got tired of this life, I just began and it felt lonely already. The contract stated that I wasn't allowed to have any male companions or friends because it might be suspicious. I lay in bed all night having been used to Devon’s cuddles. The thought of Devon irritated me but I couldn't help it because he was my first love.

As I finally closed my eyes to sleep there was a knock on my door.

“Who is it? Come in.” Devon walked through the door and my heart skipped a beat. I wasn't expecting him to be in my room at that time of the day.

“Tomorrow, we are going to make our first public appearance as a married couple. My parents are starting to get suspicious.”

“Okay.”

“I have the perfect occasion we can go to. Get ready by 1pm.” He went out the door after he said that.

“Good night,” I whispered under my breath. I tossed and turned before I finally fell asleep and it was morning. I finished up with whatever I wanted to do and prepared for the function we had. Derek and I drove in a luxurious car together. I had lost count of the cars I had been in since I met Derek. This was Lydia's kind of lifestyle and she would have killed to have such a luxurious life. I will admit that it is not bad, I just get lonely.

As the car halted. I sighted a big mansion that could be mistaken for a museum. Derek explained the way that the party we were about to attend would have a lot of media coverage, and many people would be in attendance, so he wanted to grace the occasion with his presence. Derek took my hand in his hand and led me to the entrance of the hall. I took a deep breath to calm my nerves but it wasn't helping.

“Calm down, hold my hand, and stay by my side.” Derek smiled and I returned a warm smile. I held his hand rightly and the guards outside pushed the door open. Immediately it opened I heard gasps and then a series of flashes. We walked passed the paparazzi and entered the main hall. People’s mouths were hanging. Some gossiped loudly, and Derek led me to the person who officiated the event.

“Good to see you here Mr. Derek, I didn't think you would come.”

“It was a last-minute decision.” The man laughed heartily.

“And who is this?” The man asked.

“This is my wife, Mrs. Kora Derek Reyes.” That was the first time he said it openly and in public too. The man’s eyes widened.

“Forgive me, I had no idea you were married. Welcome Mrs.. Reyes. Congratulations on your marriage.” I smiled lightly and shook his hands.

We sat at the Vip lounge but I got bored and I wandered around. I also wanted to get drinks. I walked for a few seconds. I lost my breath when I saw Devon, I thought I was daydreaming till he walked to where I was standing.

“You look stunning Kora, where have you been?” Devon reeked of alcohol. I left his side as quickly as possible but he followed me. He didn't stop following me till I got lost and was in an empty hall. I tried to leave from where I came from but Devon was standing behind me.

“Why are you trying to run away from me?” I was irritated by his presence and I wanted to leave. He came closer to me, trying to hold my waist but then I heard a familiar voice.

“Devon, what are you doing here?” It was Lydia, she walked to where we were and she boiled in anger.

“What are you doing here Kora? You are trying to seduce my husband.” Did she say, husband? They got married already. I felt like I wanted to disappear. I couldn't feel my legs anymore. When I tried to take my leave, Lydia dragged me back, just when she was about to rain abuse and derogatory words on me. Derek showed up.

“Kora, you shouldn't be here.” Devon’s eyes widened, and he went to Derek’s side.

“Good afternoon sir. Thank you for what you're doing for our company, sir I hope you accept the business proposal. It will mean a lot to my company sir.”

“Wifey, we are leaving now.” Derek and Lydia looked too stunned to speak. I went over to Derek and he held my hands. We left them standing confused in the hallway.

We didn't stay another minute there, Derek had already accomplished his mission. I was so happy to see the look on their faces. We retired back home, Derek didn't say anything to me and he went straight to his room. For the first time in a long time, I slept happily.

By night time I received an invitation card. ‘You are invited to our dinner party, from Devon MCcall and Lydia Hamilton.’ The venue and the like were stated.

“I just got an invite from Devon and Lydia,” I told Derek as we were about to eat dinner.

“We are going for the dinner party,” Derek said sharply. I wanted to pity them but with what they displayed today, they renewed my hatred for them. Their downfall has just begun.

Kora’s PovDerek thought it would be a good idea to take me shopping, but he had an impromptu meeting so he left me with the bodyguards. I couldn’t prefer it any other way. I felt suffocated when I was with him. I went over to the make up store and scanned through some mascara, concleacer and some packs of contact lenses. I admired them as I walked past.“You can’t afford those?” Lydia emerged from behind the shelf, my stomach turned with anger.“Lydia, are you following me now?” I moved away from her slowly, I thought maybe if I left where she was I could avoid her but I was wrong. As she followed me I hastened my steps, trying to get to the parking lot and go back home, I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Miss, may I please search your purse?” I turned around to see a middle aged lady, staring at me in a condescending manner. I looked straight to the other end of the hall and I saw Lydia walking slowly and smiling in my direction.“You should search her properly,” Lydia insisted and w

Kora’s PovThe chirping sounds made by the birds gave me my cue to wake up. My eyes slowly adjusted to the light in the room, this does not look like my room. My eyes darted wide open and I looked around the room, I looked at my chest and realized I was completely naked. “What the?” I stared at Derek who lay peacefully by the side of the bed. Did we? I slapped my forehead, unable to remember anything that happened. I remembered Derek, warning me about my last drink before I blacked out, I also remembered begging him to make me his. I couldn't believe we had sex, how could I be so irresponsible? I picked up my clothes from the floor and wore them quickly.“Why are you in a hurry?” I stopped almost instantly, I turned to meet Derek’s piercing eyes, and I shyly turned away without any hesitation.“I just wanted to go to my room, I don't have any reason to stay here,” I was not going to confront anything right now, I needed time to process everything.“About last night, my emotions got t

Derek’s PovAfter a decent meal and a couple of drinks later, Kora got extremely drunk. I never knew she was this light-headed, she stumbled several times on our way to the car, and I placed my hands on her waist for support. It felt like she was having too much fun, I couldn’t help but admire her slurred speech and funny movements. Finally, we reached the car and the drive home was very far from quiet, she sang to every song that came on the radio, regardless of whether she knew the lyrics or not.“Are you good?” I asked while my eyes were focused on the road.“Never been better!” She screamed. We finally got home and sat on the couch, She moved closer to me and put her hand on my leg."I've been thinking about you all night," she whispered.I felt a surge of desire but tried to maintain control. "Kora, I don't think this is a good idea."She leaned in, her lips brushing against mine. "Why not? Because I'm drunk? Because I'm persistent? Or because you're afraid of how much you want

Kora’s PovA few hours later, Derek announced he was feeling so much better. I walked into the kitchen to make him the soup I had made earlier when I overheard some of the maids whispering.“She doesn't even know what happened to Calisi, she was tortured!” One of the maids whispered in terror.“She always had a black eye anytime I saw her, and she was terrible at covering it up.” Another maid spewed.“I pity the new miss, she doesn't know who she got married to. Miss Kora still thinks she was lucky, poor girl.” I stared in shock, who is this Calisi? If all they have said is true then I have made a big mistake. Not that I believe them completely because maids love to gossip, but I've come to realize that they are not completely wrong most of the time. I had maids back home who spoke about my dad’s secret affair with another woman. That was how my mother came to know about his infidelity. Of course, she didn’t leave him, I’ve never seen my mom express her emotions. She only expresses ha

Derek’s Pov“Kora, wait!” I sprung up from my bed drenched in sweat and an awkward need for water. I gulped down the water by my bedside within a few seconds. Kora, she was all I could think and dream about. It was already enough that I thought about her all day, but now I see her in my dreams as well.It has been a week since we almost became intimate, and I haven't spoken to her nor have I addressed what happened, Kora has been oddly quiet these past few days. I'm sure she is worried about losing the contract. I tossed and turned before I could finally fall asleep again before I could fall into a deep slumber my alarm went off. I groaned out of bed as I adjusted my eyes to the bright light.“Cancel all my morning meetings.” I quickly informed my assistant over the phone. I wasn't in the mood for the board meetings today. I freshened up and went to have breakfast. As I sat on the chair to have my morning coffee, I realized I had lost appetite, it wasn't tasting the same. I wondered w

KORA’S POVThe day came, and I wore the most expensive jewelry I could find in my jewelry room. Yes, I have a whole room dedicated to just jewelry. After I dressed up, Derek was already waiting for me in the car. He wanted to show off just as much as I wanted to. We weren't close but he wanted to help me get revenge. He was already in the planning phase, now that everyone knew I was married to Derek, he could act on his plans. We drove to the location, I was confident with the amount of luxurious items I wore on my body, my husband was also popular and was termed the wealthiest man in the country last year. He was more handsome than Devon was, now that I am not blinded by my love for him, I can see that Devon wasn't particularly my type. “Ready.” I smiled and held Derek’s hand tightly. The doors opened, and a bright light welcomed us. This wasn't the house I and Devon bought, the house he took away from me. I was too weak and betrayed to fight for the house. Well, this mansion was
