KORA’S POV

“I told you to only white covers, can’t you do anything properly?” I yelled at one of the servants at Derek’s mansion. We have been married for a few months, it wasn’t as bad as I imagined it to be. I met with his parents and they didn’t seem to like me very much but they were glad that Derek was finally married.

Derek on the other hand couldn’t be more distant. We were married but we haven’t slept in the same bed, and no, I wasn't complaining I love it. Derek was respectful, he gave me everything I needed. He didn't maltreat me but he didn't make me feel special either. I was more like a stranger living in his house. We have only attended family gatherings together, we were yet to announce being a married couple. One day Derek came home famished, the servants were busy preparing for his parent's visit the next day. No fresh meals were cooked, so I quickly tidied up something for him. He at to the brim, I could see he was satisfied with his meal.

“Who is the servant that made this? That person deserves a raise.” I blushed as I heard those words, did he enjoy my food that much?

“The servants were busy so I made your dinner, I hope that is okay.” Derek's face dropped, he stood up abruptly and took his leave, but before he exited the hall he turned back to meet my eyes.

“It was nice, but next time stick to the contract.” He turned his back and left me standing there with a teary eye. I blinked away the tears. The next day we put on fake smiles and charades about being the perfect couple. I was respectful and elegant. They left after dinner and I couldn't help but think that one way or the other I got tired of this life, I just began and it felt lonely already. The contract stated that I wasn't allowed to have any male companions or friends because it might be suspicious. I lay in bed all night having been used to Devon’s cuddles. The thought of Devon irritated me but I couldn't help it because he was my first love.

As I finally closed my eyes to sleep there was a knock on my door.

“Who is it? Come in.” Devon walked through the door and my heart skipped a beat. I wasn't expecting him to be in my room at that time of the day.

“Tomorrow, we are going to make our first public appearance as a married couple. My parents are starting to get suspicious.”

“Okay.”

“I have the perfect occasion we can go to. Get ready by 1pm.” He went out the door after he said that.

“Good night,” I whispered under my breath. I tossed and turned before I finally fell asleep and it was morning. I finished up with whatever I wanted to do and prepared for the function we had. Derek and I drove in a luxurious car together. I had lost count of the cars I had been in since I met Derek. This was Lydia's kind of lifestyle and she would have killed to have such a luxurious life. I will admit that it is not bad, I just get lonely.

As the car halted. I sighted a big mansion that could be mistaken for a museum. Derek explained the way that the party we were about to attend would have a lot of media coverage, and many people would be in attendance, so he wanted to grace the occasion with his presence. Derek took my hand in his hand and led me to the entrance of the hall. I took a deep breath to calm my nerves but it wasn't helping.

“Calm down, hold my hand, and stay by my side.” Derek smiled and I returned a warm smile. I held his hand rightly and the guards outside pushed the door open. Immediately it opened I heard gasps and then a series of flashes. We walked passed the paparazzi and entered the main hall. People’s mouths were hanging. Some gossiped loudly, and Derek led me to the person who officiated the event.

“Good to see you here Mr. Derek, I didn't think you would come.”

“It was a last-minute decision.” The man laughed heartily.

“And who is this?” The man asked.

“This is my wife, Mrs. Kora Derek Reyes.” That was the first time he said it openly and in public too. The man’s eyes widened.

“Forgive me, I had no idea you were married. Welcome Mrs.. Reyes. Congratulations on your marriage.” I smiled lightly and shook his hands.

We sat at the Vip lounge but I got bored and I wandered around. I also wanted to get drinks. I walked for a few seconds. I lost my breath when I saw Devon, I thought I was daydreaming till he walked to where I was standing.

“You look stunning Kora, where have you been?” Devon reeked of alcohol. I left his side as quickly as possible but he followed me. He didn't stop following me till I got lost and was in an empty hall. I tried to leave from where I came from but Devon was standing behind me.

“Why are you trying to run away from me?” I was irritated by his presence and I wanted to leave. He came closer to me, trying to hold my waist but then I heard a familiar voice.

“Devon, what are you doing here?” It was Lydia, she walked to where we were and she boiled in anger.

“What are you doing here Kora? You are trying to seduce my husband.” Did she say, husband? They got married already. I felt like I wanted to disappear. I couldn't feel my legs anymore. When I tried to take my leave, Lydia dragged me back, just when she was about to rain abuse and derogatory words on me. Derek showed up.

“Kora, you shouldn't be here.” Devon’s eyes widened, and he went to Derek’s side.

“Good afternoon sir. Thank you for what you're doing for our company, sir I hope you accept the business proposal. It will mean a lot to my company sir.”

“Wifey, we are leaving now.” Derek and Lydia looked too stunned to speak. I went over to Derek and he held my hands. We left them standing confused in the hallway.

We didn't stay another minute there, Derek had already accomplished his mission. I was so happy to see the look on their faces. We retired back home, Derek didn't say anything to me and he went straight to his room. For the first time in a long time, I slept happily.

By night time I received an invitation card. ‘You are invited to our dinner party, from Devon MCcall and Lydia Hamilton.’ The venue and the like were stated.

“I just got an invite from Devon and Lydia,” I told Derek as we were about to eat dinner.

“We are going for the dinner party,” Derek said sharply. I wanted to pity them but with what they displayed today, they renewed my hatred for them. Their downfall has just begun.

There was no return address, no name. Just my name written across the surface in bold,
