Three months later, at the Dark Moon pack, I stood at the head of the council table in a sharp black suit, my hair pinned neatly back. I was presenting the latest financial report to the elders.

For three months, I had done nothing but work. The she-wolf who once made herself small for love was gone.

"As for the acquisition in the eastern quarry, my view is..."

Suddenly, the doors slammed inward so hard the hinges screamed.

Gamma sentries scrambled to block the intruder, but he shook them off and stormed straight toward me.

It was Cassian. He was leaner now, jaw shadowed with stubble. His eyes were shot through with red like a cornered wolf.

The moment he saw me in the high seat, he rushed over and gripped my wrist so hard it felt like the bones might snap, completely ignoring the elders seated at the table.
