Chapter Six

Since I don't own any office clothes, a simple red sweater and dark jeans will have to do. I follow Sebastian to the study room in the mansion, a notepad and pen in my pocket, when we come to the halt.

Charles, the soon-to-be beta, looks from Sebastian to yours truly and back to Sebastian. His eyes glaze over and so do Sebastian's. I roll my eyes and shift my weight on one leg. Mind linking me out of the conversation, huh?

A moment later, Sebastian opens the door of the study room, which might as well be made a meeting room. Maybe it already is, considering the numerous men already there.

None of the Alpha's or Beta's greet each other, other than a simple nod.

Sebastian turns to me. "Wait here..."

"But I want to know what this is about," I say.

"It's about the Alpha Hunt's rules, Elizabeth," Charles answered me. He knows me? "It is really no use to you."

"But—"

Sebastian gives me a hard look, I narrow my eyes at him and turn my face away. Asshole.

As the meeting in there goes on and on, I pace the hallway, press my ear against the door to hear anything, fail miserably at that and start pacing again.

Finally, a buzz from my phone tells me it's time to check the preparation. With a grin, I knock the door. No response, I knock again. But still no response or whatsoever.

I turn the knob and swing open the door. The room is dark and a projector is displaying one mesmerising view of the Crescent Moon.

"As all of you know, the crescent moon is in a few days, that night the Goddess will pair up with our partners."

I'd recognise that powerful voice anywhere—Sebastian. The Goddess will pair them up?

A dozen heads turn my way and I feel the powerful gaze of the moon knows how many Alphas on my little self. Sebastian's eyes find mine instantly, he raises an eyebrow.

"Oh, sorry." I quickly move away from the projector. "Do continue..."

"I think this meeting is at it's end," Sebastian said. "Gentlemen, we will meet again on the crescent moon night."

There are murmurs among the crowd, heavy feet on the floor and a very pissed off Alpha in my line of sight. Can this man ever be happy with me?

"I told you to wait outside," Sebastian hisses through his clenched jaw.

"Well, if you have forgotten, you have other things to do!" I hissed back.

"And if you've forgotten, you have to remind me respectfully." He narrowed his eyes.

"Fine, you have other thing to do, Sir!" I said.

"What a pleasant surprise," a familiar male voice reaches my ears.

I turn to face Alpha Elmond. He smiled at me, his blue eyes crinkle. Unlike Sebastian's stormy and powerful ones, they're calm and polite.

"Alpha Elmond," I remember to bow my head and then return to his smile. "It's nice you see you, again."

"Don't be so formal," he said. He tone welcoming, "You can just call me, Elmond."

My eyes widen. "Your name? But I can't ju—"

"It would be no problem, the Alpha title makes me feel older than I am." He grinned.

Well, if that's the case then...

"We will see you later, Alpha." Sebastian hand closes around my arm like a vice. "We have other things to attend to."

"Of course," he nods at Sebastian, then gives me another smile. "I look forward meeting you again, Elizabeth."

Sebastian starts walking. More for the sake of annoying him than for anything else, I look over my shoulder and grin at Elmond.

"See you soon," I say. "Elmond..."

Sebastian Point Of View

Pain. The companion that never left my side. The feeling that always reminds me I'm still alive. The presence that has seen me at my worst. My split knuckles heal almost instantly, leaving only a bloody splatter on my hand. I stared at the sad spectacle of a punching bag indifferently.

It's the third today. If I continue like this, I'll have to get more of them imported here.

Wiping my blooded hands with a towel, I leave the gym and start for my room. A tide of sounds crashes over me but I've had enough experience with the Lycan's heightened senses to know how to tune them out willingly.

In a matter of minutes, I reached the familiar space of my room. The faint scent of gardenia flower and rain reaches me, momentarily soothing my nerves.

I walk over to my desk and pick up the file I've been working on from the past few days.

The Alpha's Hunt also called A Deadly Game.

I've managed the trace all the maps they ever provided to their participants. All of them are different but there are some loop holes that keeps repeating. And if I can manage to find ways to tackle them, I have this game in my hand. While I scribble away my options and approaches on a paper, the door opens.

I look up, immensely irritated that someone should come in without knocking and even more irritated when I see who it is.

"Sebastian, baby..." Daisy quickly reaches my table. "Why aren't you talking to me?"

I raised an eyebrow. "Why are you asking?"

She look so desperate. "Sebastian, honey, try to understand! You didn't find your mate, so what? I—"

A low growl escape my throat and I clenched my hand in fists. Five years...

For the whole five years, I've been forced to look for her. Going from one pack to another, training with them only for one chance to know if she's there, If I will find her among them.

"Daisy..." I say with an extreme self control. "We should not speak in matter that do not concern us."

"But it does!" she exclaimed, her grey eyes swirling with emotions that she has no right to feel for me. "I love you! I can be your Luna, you know I can! Why do you need some random girl—"

This time the growl that leaves me is no context low. I shoot up from my chair, palms flat on the wooden desk.

"And you can fix me?"

She flinches. I narrow my eyes at her, irritated, infuriated, losing my patience.

She's living in a fantasy world where love fixes everything. Where its the supreme form of happiness. For fuck's sake...

"Sebastian, I..."

"Answer me, Daisy," I cut her off. "Can you fix me? Yes or no?"

She stares at me for a few moments. "No..."

"Leave."

She takes a step forward. I hold up my hand in a gesture for her to stop.

"This conversation is at it's end, leave," I said.

She glares at me but turns to her he and goes out. I rub my temple, a headache pounces on me. In lycanthropes, soulmate fill a part of your heart, life and soul. They complete you.

But for me, a soulmate means much, much more and still I can't find her.

What if she doesn't exist?

The question that's been coming up in my head so often comes barging in again. Well then, if I can't fill the missing piece of my soul with love, I will choose the next thing.

Power.

The door suddenly knocks, I mutter a 'come in' before picking up my pen again. Work isn't going to wait for me to sort out my non-existent love life.

The door clicks open and the scent of gardenia flowers and rain swirls over to me mixed with a scent of... mud?

I look up as Hazel comes inside and my eyebrow lifts. She's dripping wet, hair and clothes clinging to her body and muddy splatters all over her.

I had sent her to the residence of the pack warriors where a false delivery had been placed and I wanted that book quickly.

How did she end up like this?
