"Valen, you can not be serious!"
"Do I look like a joker to you?" "Are you out of your mind? Have you totally lost it? Whose idea was this?" Valen's best friend said in worry as she stared at Valen. "Mine." "I am not surprised that it is this foolish, then," Star sneered. "I am doing this for everyone," Valen said, trying to prove a point. "Nobody asked you to. Have you considered what your parents might feel or go through after finding out? Your mother would literally get hypertension because of your unwise decision," Star interjected. "I don't think she would feel happy knowing her husband would go ahead to risk his own life either. She literally can not do without both of us, so if either one of us leaves, she has to bear the pain. I won't feel happy knowing my father is with those beasts when I can easily overpower them if I am allowed to," Valen added, picking up a cloak. "I understand that you are praised as the most powerful man, Valen, but remember, if they figure out the truth, you might get hurt, and no one will help you. How will we know whether or not you're alive? How will we communicate with you? These are factors to consider," Star said, sounding a bit concerned. Valen stared at Star for a while. She was essentially telling the truth, but he had long thought about all those things before coming over, and now that he was here, she was simply here for his request to be granted. Silence enveloped the room for a while until Star decided to speak again. She could still see the determination on the face of her friend, and she knew whatever she had to say was only going to be an absolute waste of strength. With a sigh, she slid down the wooden bed with her back resting against it. She lifted her left leg, folded it, and rested her hand on it for support. With helplessness and a soft voice, she asked Valen, "What is the request that you want me to grant?" Valen's lips curled up into a mischievous smile. *** Back at Valen's chamber "How do you expect this to work? What if we get caught?" Star asked her friend anxiously as she got dressed up in Valen's frame to give the effect that it was her. It'd been two days since Valen informed her of the plan, but he had not thought about it that much until now that she was being pushed to bring it to life. It was as if Valen wasn't listening. He was running helter-skelter into his room to find, put, and use things, so Star would not end up ruining the plan. "Are you even listening to me, Valen?" Star said, staring down at herself in disbelief. Valen glared at her, "Keep it down! You're going to make them suspect that something is going on." "But why aren't you listening?" Star switched to a whispering tone, and Valen finally stopped to face her. "I am listening, but you're sounding good and pessimistic, which isn't to my liking. No one will find out if you can just sit down and act like a good girl for me." he touched her chin and rubbed his thumb on Star's lips, making her blush and gulp at the act. After they were both done, they stood in front of the mirror and admired themselves. "Wow, I look... I never expected this," Star said, staring back at her reflection with such bewilderment. "I told you I could change forms, but you didn't believe me. It's almost time, and I have to leave now," Valen said, and Star's heart skipped a beat. Seeing her friend put herself in this dangerous situation wasn't what she wanted, and the thought of facing her family later made her skin crawl. Valen, on noticing her friend's troubled mind, touched her cheeks and gave her a reassuring smile. "Stop being so worried, Star. I will be fine. I will be communicating with you as promised, okay? Thank you," he pulled Star into a brief hug before fleeing from the room. Just as Valen was making his way out, he unexpectedly came across his mother. "Isn't that Star? Star darling, are you leaving now without telling us? Won't you have a late dinner with us?" Seraphim asked as she watched the young lady, who still had her back turned to her. Valen bit his lips, his resolve shaking at the sound of his mother. But he couldn't mess this up. "No, luna. I will be back soon because I intend to spend the night here with Valen. You can keep my dinner." "Oh, why..." Valen fled as soon as he heard Seraphim's footsteps coming closer to him. He was praying so hard that his mother would not notice because she had sharp eyes, and anyone could tell the difference between him and Star was their build. He had a larger body frame than Star. Seraphim shook her head with a smile, not suspecting any foul play, and headed straight to her child's room. "I brought your dinner to the room. I understand that you are refusing to have dinner with us because your father banned you from going out yesterday. But please, try to understand that it's for your good, okay? Just be patient until we have managed to find a solution to all of these. Also, I met Star on my way out. She said she would be coming out soon. I will have her dinner sent as well, so she can keep you company." Seraphim paused after noticing how unusually quiet the room was, and that made her frown. Her eyes instantly landed on the figure on the bed that was covered with a thick blanket, which made her straighten her back and approach the bed. "Valen dear, are you alright? You've been mute for a while, that's unlike you," she said, but got no response. She immediately grabbed the blanket and yanked it off the figure, and Star came into view. She looked unusual, too. Seraphim released a soft gasp as she eyed her appearance. "Star? What are you doing here? Didn't you just —?" She pointed at the door, and then it dawned on her what had happened. Her heart clenched, a rush of adrenaline crashing through her chest as the truth dawned on her. "Valen," she whispered, before dashing out of the room. "Valen is missing! Alert the guards! Ring the bell! Go far and wide and search for him! Valen is missing!" Alpha Draegon rushed out of his chamber, scanning the whole place to understand what was happening, and Seraphim burst into tears in the arms of her husband. "He put Star in his place so we wouldn't notice. I met him before he left, but I thought it was Star. I got to his bedroom and noticed that he was acting weird by staying on his bed. So when I moved closer, it was Star I found on his bed. " She sobbed harder. The fact that her child slipped with her fingers hurt her badly. Alpha Draegon, knowing fully well where Valen would be headed, calmed his wife down and called out his guards to follow him, and they all left the house. "That stubborn child! When I find you, you'll regret making this reckless move," he muttered under his breath as he struck the horse’s flank with a quick flick of the whip.Valen smiled as she patted the head of one of the kids who had come to receive some fruits that she was distributing for them in the afternoon. Her eyes went over all of them. Her heart ached even more. It'd been two days since the incident and the King had managed to send some of the kids back home who recognized their packs. Valen wasn't so sure if that was the correct step to take because these kids must have been mentally affected by what had happened to them. But Lucan pointed out after she shared this with him, "Since we want to comfort these kids, we are not in the right position to mentally fix them, Valen. Because we don't know the right way to do so and we are also not fit mentally to even want to help anyone mentally. Also, trying to 'help' them will just bring back all the bad memories they've had. We can only pray for their innocent souls to be happy again." He preached effortlessly. She smiled at the kids one last time and decided to leave the room. On her way o
The kids were all led to another huge room inside the palace. The perpetrators who were caught were taken to the dungeons. "Won't they be treated? They will bleed to death before they even get to suffer for their evil deeds." Lucan said worriedly to Aldridge who was busy dusting off dirt from his clothes. "Don't worry too much, darling. The poison is going to prevent them from bleeding too much. It's not meant to kill them. It would just render them unconscious for some hours and weak for months or maybe years depending on the dosage." He shrugged nonchalantly and then looked at Iza who was busy giving instructions to the guards. "But seeing that he was the one who put the poison on, they're going to remain completely weak and paralyzed for life." He said and took off his coat. "What about the King?" "He went to address something. He will be back soon." Valen answered. "How do we arrange the kids? They are in a horrible state already. Do we feed them? C
Valen had pleaded, wanting to go with the guards on this attack but Rhydian had vehemently refused. "Listen, Valen, it's my responsibility to keep you safe. While everyone out there sees you as a man, I don't, okay? So I have to protect you." "Oh, so you think I can't do anything? That I'm weak like a child?" Valen glared at him as she pouted her lips and looked away with an angry expression. Rhydian was stunned. When did he say that? Was this how women twisted words whenever they were angry? He wouldn't know. It was his first relationship after all. He shifted closer to her and tried to pacify her. "No, I don't think you're weak. You are not weak, Valen. You're the strongest woman I know and I've met, but I just can't bear to sit still and send you to a dangerous place like that. Not on my watch, okay? Leave Aldridge and Iza to handle it. You've helped us enough by extracting the needed information and saving Jethrom's life already." He highlighted her achievements,
Valen entered the room where Jethrom had been locked. Outside the room were stationed two guards who immediately peeped in as Valen made her way towards him. Jethrom was sitting on a bench, resting against the wall with his eyes closed and hands tied. He didn't open them even after sensing someone's presence within the room. "Jethrom," She called firmly, and only then did he open his eyes to look at her. They were empty and almost lifeless. Valen felt that same pity for him. She had gotten permission from the King to come speak to him and convince him first before they decide on extracting the truth out of him with tough punishment. Because the truth remained that Jethrom was still like a family to her — maybe a distant one but they knew each other. It wouldn't hurt her to fight for him but only if he was willing to be fought for. She exhaled heavily and then dropped low, bending with her knees barely touching the ground as she clasped her fingers. Her face turned serious
"Get out of my bathroom! How dare you even step in?" Iza half yelled at him, but Dave wasn't even moved. Instead, he rolled his tongue and chuckled lightly as he walked away from the tub, almost as if he was heeding the instructions, but he wasn't. He began to undress himself. Iza was stunned. Even more stunned as he watched this scene. Dave didn't shift his gaze from him. It was like he was intentionally tempting Iza, seducing him with what he was looking at. "What...what are you doing?" "Undressing. I want to take a bath with you." Dave replied nonchalantly. "The ones provided for the guards are very irritating and I fear I might catch a skin disease before I even fulfill my mission and vision." "But why in my room? What are you doing? If you don't step out, I'll call the guards on you." "You make too much noise, Iza. For someone who isn't attracted to men or even has the slightest desire in me, you react quite too much as if you're affected by my mere pres
"Where did he go?" The MAN seated across a table with his legs resting on it, crossed against each other, asked. His eyes were closed, resting against the wall. But he wasn't asleep. "He went to the Orphanage home, my Lord." The corners of his mouth lifted followed by a dark chuckle, "The idiot never ceases to amaze me." He commented "Who did he go with?" "Valen." The reply came instantly. The man paused a finger in the air. "Valen? Hmm." Another smile appeared. "This love... It's growing so fast. Just too fast for my liking. The wife is supporting her husband." There was a brief silence before the spy decided to ask, "What do you suggest that we do, my Lord? Should we have the children taken away?"The man's eyes then opened, and he sat up but with his legs still in that same position. He frowned, appearing disciplined like a teacher whhad o just heard some forbidden words from a student, "Why?"The man on his knees couldn't say a word. He wasn't
