The office felt too quiet. She caught herself glancing at the glass doors, half-expecting someone to appear.

Her phone buzzed. She startled, only to see it was Lina, her colleague at work, whom she had become close to over time.

They were supposed to grab dinner together, but Cassandra turned her down, using the excuse of finishing work quickly to meet up with a deadline. But the truth was that she didnโ€™t want to be seen anywhere lately, as the unexpected mood arose uninvitedly, she only wanted to be on her own.

โ€œStill at work?โ€ the message read, followed by a string of impatient emojis.

Cassandra let out a soft laugh, the tension in her chest easing. She typed back quickly: Leaving soon. I am fine.

Sliding her chair back, she gathered her bag, pausing only to glance once more at the flowers. They were beautiful, thoughtful even, but Cassandra couldnโ€™t shake the sense that every petal carried weight.
