CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.

I was getting dangerously used to waking up with a smile.

It wasn’t the first time, and I prayed it wouldn’t be the last because I knew exactly who had caused it.

My eyes stayed closed as I stretched beneath the blankets, enjoying the rare feeling of waking up without having had a nightmare.

Instead, I’d had a very pleasant dream, one that made heat rush to my cheeks before I even opened my eyes.

Rolling over with a groan, I reached for my phone to see what time it was

I want to say Vanessa is the worst, but there are way worse people in Charlotte's life right now. What are your thoughts?

That conniving helfa, Vanessa! I can’t stand her. I can’t wait until Derek finds out about this. She needs to let them know that he is her ex uncle and noting inappropriate was happening.

  • The Accidental Almost Kiss with my Ex's Uncle   Ninety-Three

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.From the corner of my eye, I noticed Derek looking over at me several times on our drive, but he never let go of my hand, and for that I was grateful. “This is it, isn’t it?” He asked, and my neck twisted so fast that I was surprised I didn’t give myself whiplash. This wasn’t it! I wasn’t ready to lose him! “This is our first fight. Are we in a fight? If we are, I really need you to tell me what I did wrong.” I let my head fall back against the headrest and laughed, my eyes closing as I let myself relax from the moment of pure and absolute terror that had just consumed me. “No,” I said, shaking my head, and I heard him sigh. He lifted our hands, pulling them up to his mouth and kissed the back of mine before setting them back on my thigh. “Oh, good.” “I just thought…” I started, unsure of how to tell him how blind I had been. “Charlotte?” He asked, but didn’t look as worried as before. “I had so much going on that I hadn’t pieced together that you weren’t jus

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.The entire table went silent, every head turning to stare at me, but I refused to look away from Naomi. She had the nerve to take me in and treat me like a daughter, but was so quick to turn on me and blame me when her son… the man she raised decided he was going to cheat on and then attack me. Derek reached down, placing his hand on mine over his knee, squeezing my hand under the table. I had expected her anger. I expected her to yell and scream, possibly to throw something at me as she defended her son, but she was nothing like him. So instead, Naomi’s face fell. She looked absolutely devastated by my words, but I didn’t feel any remorse. “You really hate him that much? You had so many good years together before this.” She whispered, her eyebrows pinched together, and I could hear the plea in her voice, begging me to confirm that Justin was a good man deep down, that he was still the boy she raised, but I didn’t believe that. “That is how scared of him I am,”

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.I was grateful that Derek had grabbed my hand as soon as we got into the car. If he hadn’t, I might have jumped out on the freeway. I could tuck and roll. Another car would have hit me, but it was a risk I was willing to take. I hadn’t talked to his family since before I asked for a divorce. They showed up at the hearing, but we didn’t talk, and I didn’t know what they thought of me.There was a voice in the back of my head telling me that they hated me and wouldn’t want me here tonight. Their son, grandson, and in Nonna’s case, her great-grandson was in jail now. He had lost his mind after I had asked for a divorce, and that made me feel a little responsible even though the rational part of me knew that wasn’t true. I hesitated as we reached the door, pulling at my hand to make Derek release mine. I had just divorced Justin, and holding hands with Derek in front of them so soon after made me feel like a horrible person. “Charlotte,” Derek whispered, turning to

LYDIA’S P.O.V.“I can’t be stuck in here again!” I whispered to myself as my breathing came faster and faster with each passing moment. Even though I had joked about it with Charlotte, the last time I was stuck in there, it had fucked with my head. No one had been here. I had been trapped inside for just over an hour and had started to come to peace that I was going to freeze to death. Then one of the delivery drivers I had been waiting for showed up and got me out. My hand pushed the knob, feeling it sink in, going all the way down to the metal door, but the door itself didn’t budge as I leaned into it. “Lydia?” Paul asked, stepping closer to me, and I pushed against the door again. “I thought you were fixing this!” I spun on him, my eyes wide as the panic settled deep into my bones until the small room began to blur. “I just got here,” He said, and while I knew it wasn’t his fault it was broken, he was the one who let the door close behind him. “I can’t breathe,” I said, gasp

LYDIA’S P.O.V.I groaned as I was placed on hold again for the fourth time. No one had time for this. Placing the call on speaker, I dropped my forehead onto my desk…repeatedly. “There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home…”“No luck?” My chef called, and I looked up suddenly to see her amusement as I reached up and pulled a sticky note off my forehead. “No, they are saying the soonest they can have the part is next Sunday,” I said, leaning down to grab the roll of duct tape I had brought with me as my backup plan from my purse and placing it on my desk.If we couldn’t stop the fridge from ‘eating people’ as Charlotte had so eloquently said, then I would just have to do whatever rebellious teenager had done at some point and tape the latch open so no one could get locked in or out again.“So, should I tell this guy to stop working?” She asked, pointing with her thumb over her shoulder, and my eyebrows pinched together in confusion. “What guy?” I asked, standing up quickl

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.For the rest of the day, I couldn’t keep the smile off my face. Even when Vanessa made it clear that despite my success with The Black Door, I couldn’t even breathe near my new clients without running it past her first, the smile stayed. It only infuriated her more, and I loved it.Rebecca didn’t seem to happy with her, and from the snippets of conversations I had overheard, Vanessa’s days were numbered if she didn’t turn things around. By the end of the day, Vanessa was the last to leave, and it only made me happier to see her ready to pull her hair out as she was finally focusing on her own work instead of trying to micromanage everyone else now that they had gone for the day. She didn’t bother to look up as I left, and I was grateful, because I had plans and I wasn’t going to let her bring me down. Derek had been right that I had been ordering in every night, and I figured it would be nice to cook Paul a homemade meal to thank him for keeping me safe over the

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.I spent the entire ride home pretending like I wasn’t staring at a cocktail napkin, but unfortunately, Lydia noticed everything. She was also sober, and I was…. Not. At all. “Do you need help sounding it out?” Lydia asked and then pressed her lips together as she tried to hide

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V. The drive to the hospital was a blur of red lights and panic. I barely remembered the car coming to a stop or my driver opening the door, though it was probably going to be one of the last times he drove me anywhere. By the time I sprinted through the main entrance and reached

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V. Justin didn’t come home that night… or the next, or the one after that. At first, I told myself I didn’t care and that I was happy that he was gone. I packed boxes in silence, folded clothes, put them into my suitcases, and sorted through years of our lives together piece by pi

  • The Accidental Almost Kiss with my Ex's Uncle   Six

CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.My heart dropped to my stomach as if I had just been caught doing something wrong, and I tore myself away quickly. Justin’s face was red with fury as he stormed toward us, but his anger dropped instantly as recognition flashed in his eyes along with something close to fear. I g
