I woke up with a pounding headache that was only made worse by my phone ringing. My hand slid across the bed as I searched for it, but I froze as I touched a warm, hard chest instead. A flash of dark green eyes and a devilish grin popped into my mind, and I tensed as I tried to recall what had happened the night before. My eyes opened slowly in terror as I tried to remember how I got here and where here actually was. I let out a breath of relief when I saw the disheveled, dirty blonde hair of my husband as he started to wake. The relief of being safe at home was short-lived, though, and the sudden crushing betrayal that had caused me to drink until I blacked out last night hit me like a bullet to the heart. “Good morning,” He whispered, rolling over to wrap his arm around me and kissing the top of my head. I jerked away instinctively, much to his surprise, and tumbled out of the bed. “Babe, are you okay?” I groaned as I rubbed my butt cheek before seeing my phone beneath the bed and grabbing it. “I’m fine,” I snapped, squinting at the screen to see my old college professor’s name. He had been like a mentor to me, but we hadn’t talked in a while, not since I left work when I married Justin. “Professor Simmons?” I asked as I answered the call, closing my eyes again as I scooted back to put my back against my nightstand. “Charlotte! How are you? I was so happy to get your message last night!” He exclaimed, and my mind went blank as I tried to think back to when or what I could have texted him. “Right! Of course! My message!” I exclaimed without any idea as to what he was talking about before wincing at my own volume as Justin got out of bed and began to pull on clothes. “This could not have been better timing. I have just the place for you.” He said, and I silently shook my head in confusion. “My friend’s firm is looking for a new interior designer, and I let her know that she would be a fool not to hire you. I’ll text you her information, and you just need to send in your resume. It’s well-paid and not too far from you.” My eyes snapped wide open as I slowly processed what he had just said. “Thank you!” I exclaimed in shock. “That’s amazing. Do you know when she would need me to start?” “She’ll let you know. I’ll text you later, and we can meet to discuss it further.” He said before disconnecting the call. I stared down at my phone, blinking several times as I tried to get the screen to stop blurring. “Start what?” Justin asked, making me jump. For a moment, I couldn’t remember what it was that I had just been about to say as he pulled on his white button-up shirt. His chiseled abs and the seductive grin he sent me when he caught me staring made my mind go blank until, suddenly, flashes of Tara wrapped around him came to mind, and my heart squeezed painfully in my chest. “A job,” I responded curtly, unsure how to talk to him without lashing out. “A job,” He repeated with a laugh, as if it were the most ridiculous thing he had heard. “Why do you suddenly want a job? Do I not give you enough money each month?" I pushed myself to stand, knowing this wasn’t a conversation I would win while curled up in a ball on the floor. "I’ve been home for years, and I’m a bit bored, Justin,” I spat, unable to hide my anger with him before clearing my throat and speaking more calmly. “I want to find something to do." He chuckled as he put on his watch, not bothering to even look at me as he spoke. "I’ll sign you up for flower arranging or yoga classes…something easy. My wife doesn’t need to work. All you have to do is enjoy yourself and have fun.” Like a toy, I thought bitterly. “Speaking of enjoying yourself,” Justin said, finally turning and gesturing toward the window. “I have a surprise for you downstairs.” An island wasn’t enough? I wondered, but kept it to myself as I pulled on my silk robe and walked to the window. In the driveway sat a brand new luxury SUV with a giant red bow on top. “I wanted to give it to you on your birthday, but there was a slight delay with when I could pick it up,” Justin said, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind me. I tensed, but couldn’t pull away again, not without him getting suspicious. “Happy birthday, baby. I love you. I hope you enjoy your present.” I pressed my lips together as he leaned forward to kiss my cheek before pulling away and going back to the dresser to put on his tie. “And don’t worry, I already have our anniversary present ready for next week. That one won’t be late. You are going to love it.” He said as he walked out the door. “Oh, I have something for you, too, but you probably won’t love mine,” I whispered after him, but he was too far away to hear. My phone vibrated in my hand, and I pulled it up, expecting it to be the information from Professor Simmons, but it was a social media message request… from Tara Whitmore. My breath caught in my throat as I opened the message with shaking fingers, accepting it. ‘Do you like the car I picked out? It’s so roomy. We barely made it off the lot before Justin insisted on having sex with me in it. He wanted to… break it in. Sorry, it was late. Things got so wild that it had to be sent for cleaning before he could give it to you. I had them leave something in there for you, though. Consider it my birthday gift. I wonder how long it will take for you to find it…’CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.“Charlotte! We talked about this! What is this?” Lydia exclaimed as she looked over my shoulder at my cutting board.“If you don’t back off, I am going to take this knife and…” “Easy, ladies! Everything is okay.” Paul exclaimed from the other side of the counter where Lydia had him rolling and kneading some dough she said we would need for the dessert. Though I wouldn’t exactly call it kneading since it had started as a ball and was now a pile of goo, stuck to his hands. “Is it? Is it really, Paul? You doing okay over there?” I asked, and I could practically hear Lydia’s molar’s squeak as she turned to see the mess he had made. “Yeah, this is fine. Isn’t this what it is supposed to look like?” He asked, before his concern for us went out the window, and I watched his life flash before his eyes as he saw Lydia about to explode. “When it was first getting mixed, maybe, but definitely not at this stage… That’s not right.” I said, relieved when Lydia moved toward h
PAUL’S P.O.V.I couldn’t take my eyes off Lydia as she walked through my living room, pulling her hair up into a messy bun on the top of her head, wearing nothing but my shirt. My head dropped back, and I groaned as she turned, the shirt lifting just enough to show a peak at her perfect ass. Fuck, she looked so good. I was never going to get over how lucky I was to have her here in my home, in my arms, and in my bed. As she bent over and opened the fridge, I couldn’t take it any more and got up quickly from the couch. “Wow,” She mused as she looked around. “I’m impressed.” Glancing over her shoulder, I stared at my fridge full of food. Up until now, I was spending all my money at the cafe when I wanted a home cooked meal. Now, I had a cook book for dummies and had gone out and purchased every ingredient that was listed in the book so I was prepared. “Nope,” I said as she reached for something, pulling her back by her hips. Lydia laughed, spinning to face me. “What do you mean
CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.The feeling of his lips trailing up my body had stuck with me through the night. Even in my dreams, I relived him placing the blindfold on me and trying me to the bed before he kissed, sucked, and worshiped every inch of my body.My limited knowledge of a play room had been nothing more than what I had heard from others and no one really every talked about it in detail. I had expected it to hurt or to be unpleasant at some point. It wasn’t.He kept telling me how good I was doing, making my body get warmer as he gave me orgasm after orgasm until my body couldn’t take it anymore and I thought I was going to pass out. Half of the things he had used on me, I had never tried before with anyone, and I was going to make a list for what I wanted him to get for the house. When we were done, he clea
CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.The second the club came into view, my thighs pressed together, and I glanced at Derek out of the corner of my eye. “You didn’t,” I said but I really wanted him to say he did, that he booked us a private room in the VP section and that he was planning on doing the most unholy things to me to make up for how busy the rest of the week had gotten. We had barely gotten to see each other over the past few days. One of us would get off work and then collapse into bed next to the other without another word and pass out right away. Mostly it was Derek. One night I had texted him that I was in his house, in his bed. Security had let me in, and I had been giddy and excited to wait for him to get off work. Only he didn’t get home until after midnight and I barely woke up to him crawling into bed. Guilt filled me as his alarm went off before mine and he had to get up and leave early the next day, too. Our relationship seemed to be added more stress to his work load, but
CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V. “Did I do something wrong?” I asked hesitantly as I took my seat, glancing between the two of them. They looked tense but not necessarily angry. “If this is about Derek Moretti, my project with them is complete, and we followed all the rules put in place and didn’t engage in any type of relationship until after we closed out their project,” I said, feeling my heart start to race and my palms becoming sweaty. “Charlotte,” Rebecca stopped me as she took her seat. “This is not about your relationship with Derek, though now that it has become so public, we will need to establish some professional boundaries to prevent any conflicts of interest. We’ll get back to that another time.” I glanced at Karen in HR with concern before looking back to Rebecca. If we needed to come back to that conversation, then maybe I wasn’t going to be fired after all. “Oh,” I said, sitting back in the chair slowly. I should have known everything was going too well. The o
CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.It felt surreal to be right back at work the next day. I wanted to stay in Derek’s arms forever, and getting out of bed this morning had been one of the hardest things I had ever done. But I had learned throughout my life that it was detrimental to show your competition any sign of weakness. With yesterday's trial having made its way across the tabloids and the news as a huge scandal, I knew if I didn’t show my face today and kick butt while I was there, Vanessa and all of my other competition would eat me alive when I got back. Not that my company wasn’t friendly, because most of them were. It was the really competitive ones that I knew would have a field day with this. The parking garage was already mostly full when I got there, and I sat in the car for a few extra minutes, scrolling through my phone until I had no choice but to go inside so I wouldn’t be late. I thought I would feel anxious, like a deer walking into the lion’s den, but it felt strangely peac
CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V. I wanted to set it on fire. It took me a moment to collect myself before I rushed outside to the car and yanked the door open. I could hear Justin laughing behind me in the kitchen, but the sound just grated on my nerves. I didn’t want to find anything, but with my camera rec
CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V. Lydia grumbled under her breath as she shoved the hotel keycard into the slot for the third time. The light flashed red again, and I groaned, stumbling to the side a few steps before regaining my footing. We had been at the club all night, and there was no way I wanted to retur
