Candice POV

Joshua scoffed, but his hand dropped.

“You think money makes you untouchable?”

Dorian tilted his head slightly, his tone smooth. “No. But in your case, it makes you very, very insignificant.”

Joshua hesitated. He muttered something under his breath, then shoved his hands in his pockets and walked off, disappearing into the crowd like the coward he was.

I stood there, stunned. My wrist still tingled where Joshua had touched me.

I tried to play it cool, nodding and smiling like I was okay, but inside, everything was trembling.

Dorian looked at me then. “You don’t have to pretend to be okay,” he said softly. “Let Ruby stay with you for a bit. I just need to step away for a moment. Bathroom.”

I nodded, not trusting my voice. He gestured toward one of the staff nearby, and in a few minutes, Ruby and I were escorted to the VIP lounge — one of those overly quiet, elegant spaces reserved for the mall’s wealthiest shoppers.
