Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
Sheldon didn't seem to get how bad this was. He laughed and waved at the group. "Ms. Tyson, check out everyone's tattoos. Aren't they awesome?"

The classmates eagerly lifted their arms, showing off the dark ink sprawled across their skin.

Ms. Tyson stumbled back, pointing at them. "You idiots! Do you even know what you've done? No decent college is ever going to take you now!"

The students froze for a moment, staring at one another in shock.

Sensing that something was wrong, Winnie hurriedly whispered to them, "Ms. Tyson is just trying to scare us. I bet Cassandra ran to complain again."

Everyone suddenly had that look that said, "Now I get it."

"If it wasn't her, then who? She probably blew everything way out of proportion to Ms. Tyson. That's why we're getting yelled at. Everyone knows Cassandra is her class rep."

"Ms. Tyson is just super conservative. It's all Cassandra twisting things, saying that having a tattoo will keep us out of the top majors."

In an instant, they exchanged knowing looks with one another.

Winnie sauntered up and hooked her arm around Ms. Tyson's. "Ms. Tyson, don't worry. These aren't real tattoos—they're just stickers."

Ms. Tyson hesitated. "Is that so?"

"Of course. We are all good kids. How could we possibly get real tattoos?"

"Yep, Ms. Tyson. Don't stress. Half the class scored 1350. You'll hear soon enough when we all get into top colleges."

With everyone speaking up like that, Ms. Tyson no longer had a single worry.

When she walked away to take a phone call, the classmates immediately turned their resentful gazes on me.

I instinctively took two steps back, but Sheldon grabbed a fistful of my hair and snarled, "Cassandra, was it you who snitched? Did you exaggerate everything to Ms. Tyson and almost get all of us scolded?"

I clutched at his hand, begging him to let go, but Sheldon shoved me hard to the ground. "Cassandra, you are just too jealous of everyone else."

I shook my head and struggled, trying to make them understand I hadn't told Ms. Tyson anything.

They refused to believe me. A classmate's muddy shoe pressed down on my hand, and pain shot up my arm. I winced and tried to pull away, but it only made them press harder.

"Cassandra would never admit she snitched!" someone spat. "She deserves a lesson."

"She's been asking for it for ages. She's always picking on Winnie."

Their crooked smiles made my heart sink.

Just as things were getting out of hand, Ms. Tyson ran back, shouting, "Class, stop messing around! You can all head home now."

Only then did they back off and walk away. Tears fell silently to the floor as I slumped into the corner. I brushed them away, digging my nails into my skin as I reminded myself to hold on. Soon, they wouldn't be able to laugh anymore.

Winnie came back, holding her wrist up in front of my face. Sheldon's name was freshly tattooed there.

She grinned smugly. "Cassandra, you look like such a loser right now. Sheldon's mine. Don't even dream of taking him. I'm sticking with him for life. He even tattooed my name on his wrist. We are meant for each other."

I kept my head bowed, refusing to give her the satisfaction of a reaction.

Sheldon was from a blended family. His stepfather, William Foster, had promised that if Sheldon didn't get into college this year, he wouldn't fund a repeat year. He would have to start working in a factory.

Winnie had no idea. She didn't know that Sheldon had spent three days and nights begging at his stepfather's door just to earn this chance. After seeing his SAT scores, he had arrogantly applied to only Astraeus University.

If he ever realized that following her lead and getting a tattoo had cost him his chance, I wondered what he would do.

I looked up at Winnie as she walked away. She still had no idea what was coming for her.

Winnie trembled violently and clutched her wrist as she stumbled backward. "What are you trying to do?"Sheldon's reply was ice-cold. "Obviously, I'm getting rid of your tattoo. I don't ever want to see my name on your body again. It makes me sick."He shot a look at the others. "Hold her down."Winnie went limp with fear. She struggled desperately, sobbing as she begged, "Sheldon, please let me go. I can get it removed myself. I'll go get it removed, I swear…"Sheldon drove the knife down. The pain nearly knocked Winnie unconscious.Something inside her completely broke. The looks directed at her were filled with hatred. Some people clapped in twisted satisfaction, while others lashed out at her with fists and kicks."This is all because of your stupid idea! You wrecked the goody-two-shoes image I worked so hard to maintain for three years in front of Ms. Tyson and Mr. Reed. This is all on you!""Winnie, you're the one who deserves it. You were the one who led the bullying agai

As Dad approached, his imposing, heavy build made Sheldon freeze in fear. He sank down and kept apologizing frantically. I ran forward to stop Dad.He looked at me in confusion. "You're forgiving him just like that?"I shook my head. I slapped Sheldon across the face, then followed it with a hard kick. "I'm just making sure you don't get blamed for anything. It's only right for me to do it."Dad nodded in satisfaction. "If anyone ever dares to bully my daughter again, I won't let it go."I was so moved my eyes burned with tears. I froze instantly. I hadn't even had the chance to see my parents after being reborn. As memories of my last life came rushing back, I remembered Winnie setting our house ablaze. My parents tried to shield me with their own bodies, but in the end, I had still been burned alive. The memories of my last life hit me like a storm, leaving me both furious and brokenhearted. My parents gave me a look full of concern. My mom, Irene Bailey, whispered, "Don't be afraid. We've got you."I forced myself to nod through the sting in my chest.Winnie's eyes suddenly sparkled, and she blurted out, "Mr. and Mrs. Sterling, are you here to apologize for your daughter? Then, you'd better pay up! Cassandra has ruined the lives of all 35 of us. That's 350 thousand dollars you owe!"My dad, Eric Sterling, glared at her coldly. "Say that again? 350 thousand dollars?"Winnie froze under Dad's cold stare and said nothing. Sheldon straightened and declared, "350 thousand dollars is far too little. We've

Ms. Tyson didn't know how to comfort Sheldon for a moment.I looked around at the other students. Some were choking back tears, while some were outright sobbing and screaming. All their earlier arrogance had vanished."What are we going to do? This was my dream major!""I just wanted a stable job. If my parents find out I'll never get into this field because of a tattoo, they'll kill me.""Our lives are over. Why did this have to happen?"Winnie's legs trembled uncontrollably. She suddenly turned to glare at me, then whispered to the others, "The only thing we can do now is get some cash to keep our parents happy. I heard Cassandra's family owns a mall—they've got funds. Perhaps we could…"The other students immediately caught on. Winnie shouted, "It's all your fault, Cassandra!"I blinked in confusion. "How is that my fault?"Winnie darted over to Mr. Reed, sobbing. "Mr. Reed, this is all Cassandra's fault! She said getting tattoos wouldn't hurt our chances at college and enco

The students' faces suddenly fell."That can't be! Mr. Reed, our scores are all over 1350. How is it possible that no school accepted us?""Exactly! I checked the minimum admission score for the school and program I applied to this year, and I scored over 30 points higher than that.""You've got to be joking with us, right?"They kept talking among themselves, but Ms. Tyson's chest rose and fell sharply with anger."How dare you lie to me and say your tattoos were fake?"Sheldon scratched his head awkwardly and waved his wrists, showing the big letters "Winnie" inked on them. "Ms. Tyson, we were just joking. We knew you were strict. Even after we graduate, you still care about our tattoos."Winnie chimed in, "Yeah, Ms. Tyson, all our scores are over 90%. It's just a tattoo. You don't have to be so old-fashioned."Ms. Tyson's face darkened with frustration. "Do you even realize that those tattoos are why you're ineligible for these programs? Your physicals didn't pass, and every

The next day, Sheldon and the rest of the class were notified to return to school for a routine physical exam. It didn't take long, and soon, everyone had their reports in hand. The moment the reports were distributed, the classmates all turned to stare at me in unison. They mocked me openly. "After we bring these reports home, we can just wait for our acceptance letters. Not everyone gets that chance after missing the SAT.""I can't believe Cassandra still had the nerve to show up for the physical. We all know she isn't getting into college anyway."I cleared my throat and looked at them with an amused expression. "What makes you so sure I can't get into college?"Sheldon raised an eyebrow and pulled out an exam admission slip, flicking it against my face. "Cassandra, I hid your admission slip. You couldn't even take the exam those two days. At this point, not even a community college would want you."The second he said that, the class erupted in laughter. Even Winnie let out a
