Chapter 7

Blue's POV

I watched them take Maverick to his cell, and I felt pretty horrible. I don't know how long it takes for someone to grow on you, but he certainly grew on me.

I wasn't sure if it was because of the mate bond, or because he was naturally interesting, but I was really not feeling like myself. I had been avoiding him for so long because I hated the way my chest would heave when he was there.

I walked back to the car after calming myself. I had absolutely forgotten that Ashley was in the car with me.

“Girl, I wasn't familiar with your game.” She giggled, winking at me also. “Kill what's definitely your biggest enemy, then pin it on the human that's standing in the way of your actual marriage? That's brilliant as fuck!”

“What?!” I snapped. “I didn't do any of that.”

I signalled for Jeff to drive us home.

“What do you mean?”

“I didn't kill anyone.” I sighed. “My initial plan was to just kill him when this six months thing is over.”

“He's human and I can't let him leave and live with wolf secrets.” I said, although I was already having a huge rethink on that part of the plan too.

“Oh wow. Then this just took a crazy, unexpected dimension.” Ashley muttered.

“And don't you think it's too early for me to have killed yet?” I asked. “Luca still hasn't suffered.”

“That's very true. Fuck then, we have a crazy ass murderer on our hands.”

“Right now, I just want to make sure he gets the right defense for this case.” I said.

Jeff soon got us home, and Luca was still seated in the house. I was taken aback at the sight of him, shocked that he'd wait that long for me.

“Luca?” Ashley said before I could speak. The devastatingly handsome non chalant Alpha turned to look at us with a smirk on his face.

He stood up from where he was seated, and he took slow steps towards me.

“Hello pretty.” He smirked, walking closer to me. I lost my mind even more with every step he took. He's a danger to me, and to the society.

“Why are you still here?” I asked, trying to seek tough.

“Why else if not for you my queen?” He asked with a smirk.

“Cut the act and tell us what it is you want.” Ashley snapped at him.

“Tell me why it is that you'd choose a murdering son of a bitch, a peasant human as your husband?!” He shouted, so loudly that I almost vibrated.

I hated seeing him so angry, but I loved that he was very outraged about it.

“Luca, learn how to treat a woman, and maybe you'll understand why I chose a peasant over you.” I said, walking past him to my room.

It took every ounce of strength in me to take that walk. Ashley's presence made it even easier, but I was so close to giving up on the whole thing.

Ashley left not long after Luca left, and I was left alone with my thoughts. I ensured to call Peter to give him all the details about the murder and the trial.

My only uncle had died fighting the Equal Wolf. The wolf that is never summoned. The wolf that makes life equal to death.

I could barely sleep because all I could think of was how to get Maverick out of this whole situation.

I woke up in the same position I had slept, thinking about Maverick and his bail hearing today. I had my bath, confirmed that Peter would be there, and I was ready to leave.

I decided to make a quick stop at the prison first, before heading over to the wolf court.

Kylie drove this time, probably because he could sense how urgent I needed to see Maverick.

“I need to see Maverick. Maverick Gray. “ I said, and the man at the counter got to work immediately. This is just a perk of being the most powerful Alpha ruler they know.

I was taken to a room to see Maverick. He walked in with a tired look on his face, like he had gotten no sleep.

“Why didn't you sleep?” I asked and he scoffed.

“I've been deep in my head, trying to figure this thing out, but nothing seems to be adding up.” Maverick moaned. “I need to get out of here and start seeing actual things.”

“Not many people can say this, but you'll scale this phase, and I promise that you will.” I said, feeling the urge to vomit. I held it deep down inside myself like a bowl I had to tie to the ground.

“I need you to tell me something.” Maverick said, and all my attention shifted to him.

“What is it?” I asked.

“Do you really think I commited that crime?” He asked, looking seriously at me.

“No. Maverick, no.” I responded. “You can't fight and win against a random wolf, not to talk of Billy Campbell.”

“So, you believe me?” Maverick asked, and I gave quick nods.

“I do, Mav.” I said and he smiled, giving nods.

“If I do get out of this place, I'll need everything the prosecution has on me. Every single thing if I'm to solve this mystery.” Maverick said, and he was looking at a wall that wasn't there. It was like he was pinning small pieces of a much larger picture unto a wall in his mind, and the more pictures he pinned, the clearer the view of the whole thing he'd have.

“It's time!” One of the guards shouted.

We stood up, and we hugged. Despite staying in here the whole night, the smell of his cologne was still on, and I'd have hugged him for longer.

Kylie drove is straight to the courthouse. The judges were well seated, and the general, General Cole Harrison was seated on the forefront. He wasn't hiding the anger on his face from just losing his successor.

“Kylie, get everything the Prosecution has on this case to the house now.” I said, and he bowed, leaving the wolf court.

Maverick was escorted in, and there were murmurs all over the place. General Cole grabbed his gravel, and I could already see that this whole thing was happening, whether we like it or not.

“Let's just hope he comes out safe.” I whispered to myself as the Gravel hit the dock.
