He answered a little too quickly before stepping completely out of the cubicle.

“Okay,” she said easily.

He heard the soft sound of her trousers dropping to the floor.

“But don’t leave me, okay?”

“Just take your bath.”

Daniela stood beneath the warm stream of water and let out a satisfied sigh.

Heat spread across her chilled skin, washing away the lingering discomfort in her body.

Already, she felt better.

Through the mist and falling water, she could still make out Kieran’s silhouette outside

“You stood your ground.”“You defeated them.”“I didn’t have much choice.”She smiled faintly.“They weren’t exactly interested in talking.”“And you’re a Silver Wolf.”There was unmistakable admiration in his voice now.“A female Silver Wolf.”He almost laughed in disbelief.“Do you understand how rare that is?”Daniela nodded.“I do.”He shook his head.“No.”His eyes never left hers.“I really don’t think you do.”Another long silence settled over them. Finally, he asked quietly,“Do you have any idea what you’ve thrown yourself into, Daniela?”Hearing her real name from him sent an unexpected shiver through her.She swallowed.“I’m trying to survive.”Her voice barely rose above the wind.“That’s all I’ve been trying to do.”Floyd watched her for what felt like forever. When he finally spoke again, his voice had changed. It had become gentler.Almost painfully so.“Why didn’t you tell me?”Daniela blinked. That wasn’t the question she’d expected.“I…”She searched for an answer.“

“You’re making this unbelievably difficult.”“I know.”“I’m waiting.”Silence swallowed the clearing. The wind rushed through the broken stone targets.Somewhere overhead, birds cried as they circled above the cliffs.Time seemed to stretch.Every passing second made the words lodged inside her throat feel heavier. Her lips trembled. Her palms were damp. Her heartbeat pounded so loudly it drowned out almost everything else. She squeezed her eyes shut. When she opened them again…She met Floyd’s gaze head-on.For one impossible moment…She wished this was all a nightmare. That she’d wake up back in her dormitory.Safe.Hidden.Still pretending. But reality never showed that kind of mercy. She drew one slow breath. Then another. Finally…She spoke.“My name…”Her voice shook only once.“…is Daniela Grimwood.”She straightened her shoulders.Forced herself not to look away.“I’m Alpha George’s daughter.”A long silence followed. Then, with every ounce of courage she had left, she finishe

Daniela followed Floyd across the academy grounds until the stone pathways gave way to an abandoned training field. The old archery range had long since fallen into ruin.Massive stone targets stood scattered across the clearing, their surfaces cracked and buried beneath thick blankets of moss. Wild vines crawled over broken pillars, reclaiming what wolves had abandoned generations ago after bows became relics of a forgotten age.Beyond the clearing, the land sloped toward the cliffs. The wind was stronger here.Colder.It carried the distant roar of waves crashing against the rocks far below. No one came here anymore.Daniela slowly looked around before glancing sideways at Floyd.“You know,” she said lightly, “this feels like exactly the sort of place someone brings another person before murdering them and throwing the body off a cliff.”Normally, Floyd would have laughed.Today, he didn’t.His arms remained folded across his chest as he watched her with unnerving intensity. Not hos

“And you’ve improved.”His gaze swept briefly across the clinic.“It seems Westmoor still deserves its reputation.”Daniela wanted to smile at Liam.Instead, she kept her face carefully blank. One careless breath could undo everything.Ashbourne’s attention shifted back to her.“And you…”His eyes narrowed almost imperceptibly.“Alexander Cameron.”Her stomach tightened.“Yes, sir.”He regarded her quietly.“You seem…”Another pause.“…unsettled.”For one terrifying second, Daniela thought her soul had abandoned her body. She dragged herself back together through sheer force of will. She dipped her head again.“My apologies, sir.”“The matches earlier were… more intense than I anticipated.”Silence answered her.Long enough to become uncomfortable. Then longer still.Ashbourne took one slow step closer.Rule three echoed through her head so loudly it drowned out everything else.Don’t let an Alpha get close.Too late. His eyes sharpened. Not suspicious.Curious.Like someone staring a

Almost unconsciously, her gaze drifted back to Nico.He was still sitting quietly, lost in thought.Suppose…Just suppose…Josephine wasn’t imagining things.Suppose the feelings she’d sensed were real. What was Daniela supposed to do?Pretend not to notice?Reject him?An even more frightening thought followed. What if he truly was her mate? She was already running from Charles.Would she have to spend the rest of her life running from Nico too?She silently prayed it would never come to that.Daniela stood.“I should go check on Liam.”Nico looked up.“…Yeah.”His answer was flat.“Go see your friend.”She paused. There was something strange about the way he’d emphasized the last word.“What exactly is that supposed to mean?”He shrugged without looking at her.“Nothing, Hellcat.”His tone remained deliberately casual.“Go spend time with your friend.”Daniela stared at him for another second. Was that…Jealousy?No.Impossible.A smile slowly spread across her face anyway. She walk

He gestured vaguely toward himself.“…whatever this is?”Daniela shook her head.“No.”She corrected him gently.“It’ll help you understand what you’re feeling.”She smiled.“There’s a difference.”The word feeling made him visibly uncomfortable. He looked away.“Asking me to deal with feelings…”He muttered under his breath.“…that’s asking a lot.”“I know.”Her answer came without hesitation.“But you’re still here.”He glanced back at her.“You haven’t walked away.”His jaw tightened. He hated that she’d noticed.Daniela smiled.“We don’t have to fix everything today.”“This is just one step.”Nico looked at her again.Really looked.Long enough for her pulse to start racing all over again. She couldn’t read him.He couldn’t read her either. She was unlike anyone he’d ever met.Impossible to categorize.Infuriating.Unpredictable.Somehow…Every instinct warned him to keep his distance.Every instinct also wanted him to stay exactly where he was.“…Fine.”The word escaped him like
