Chapter 2

There was one more person on the lawn. It was a shewolf with a striking figure and long, wavy blonde hair.

Her features were sharp, but her demeanor was nothing like Sebastian's cold severity. Instead, she was patient as she guided Leo to rein in his aura. Whenever he stumbled, she reached out immediately to steady him.

That was Elina.

I didn't know how to define her. She had nothing to do with me. Yet, Sebastian and Leo were both intimately close to her. The air around them carried that enviable werewolf presence. It was also something I could never have.

It was already noon.

Thin wisps of smoke curled up from a chimney in the distance. The scene outside looked like a harmonious family of three. They looked so peaceful, almost idyllic in their little bubble.

I couldn't help but wonder whether they'd lived like this in my previous life after Sebastian had taken Leo and Elina back to Silverfang Manor.

I must have lingered too long, or my gaze was too intent as Sebastian noticed my presence.

A werewolf's senses were sharp. He picked up on the extra trace of scent in the air and lifted his head, looking toward the wooden fence.

There was irritation in his gaze at being disturbed. His amber eyes held a chill until he recognized me. Then, his expression shifted slightly.

"Faye?"

After being reborn, I had already forgotten what Sebastian looked like.

Decades had passed in my previous life. If I remembered correctly, the last time we saw each other was around these days. Now that I was finally seeing him again, it suddenly clicked.

So… this was what he looked like in the past. Huh.

When I didn't respond, Sebastian frowned faintly. He strode over to me and reached out, placing a hand against my forehead. "What happened? Your heartbeat is so slow."

I instinctively moved to avoid him.

Sebastian paused momentarily at that. A flicker of something dangerous, something almost possessive, passed through his eyes as his gaze turned darker.

Meanwhile, Leo had already retracted his claws. He was only four, but he could already control an Alpha's emotions with ease.

The moment he saw me, the smile on his little face disappeared. Instead, it was replaced by a proper, composed expression.

"Mama." He spoke politely, but there was a distance in his tone that didn't match his age. It was courteous, but it felt distant.

I used to think Leo had inherited Sebastian's disposition and that this was simply how he treated people. But after living through my previous life, I understood that wasn't true. He could be warm and playful, just not with me.

When he was with me, he always carried himself like a little adult. He was distant and polite. He had been the same in our final meeting in my previous life, cold as an iceberg.

He didn't call me Mama anymore at that point, but "that human."

"Father and I have both awakened our bloodline. We won't be swayed by emotions from someone with such weak blood. You're too weak. This bond will only drag you down. Let it go. It's better for everyone."

In my previous life, I waited for both father and son for decades, from my early 20s until my hair turned gray. Even when I was too sick to get out of bed, I held onto my last breath, refusing to let go. Only then did the broken door finally open.

I thought it was Sebastian, so I called out to him. Alas, my pleas were silenced by a cold voice.

"Father is suppressing a territorial rebellion in one of the extremely cold regions. No one is allowed to disturb him."

That was when I realized it wasn't Sebastian but Leo who had returned.

Pureblood werewolves didn't age. The grown Leo looked exactly like Sebastian in his 20s. I saw how those same cold, distant eyes rested on me, who had withered down to skin and bones as if he were looking at a stray dog on the roadside.

Leo said that this visit was his way of repaying the debt of my giving birth to him. He still had to return to the territory to handle the war. He didn't want me wasting more of his time than I already have.

Maybe it was anger at his words, or maybe I had simply reached my limit. Not long after he finished speaking, I closed my eyes.

And then I woke up in my younger body.

The sun was blazing outside, and I could hear the roar of engines beyond the windows. Today was the day Sebastian had announced the arrival of the pack's convoy. As for the 700 dollars, I had originally planned to use it to buy Sebastian a tie as a farewell gift.

But now that I had returned with the memories of my previous life, I wouldn't repeat the same mistakes, not again.

That was the last time I ever saw Sebastian.I traveled across North Arcton in my RV for years after that final meeting, experiencing everything the world had to offer. Now, my bloodline gave me a presence so commanding that entire forests of wild wolves would bow before me.Still, there was one thing Elina had never understood. She believed having a strong bloodline meant power and conquest. What mine gave me was not the power to rule others. It gave me the freedom to never be ruled by anyone.I could stand beneath a full moon and summon the ancient wolf packs, making the mountains and forests tremble. But what I loved more was the aroma of black coffee drifting through the serving window of my food truck with the morning sea breeze. The first was power. The second was life. I had chosen the one I wanted with my eyes wide open.Over the years, I would occasionally hear rumors from the werewolf world.Elina's ambition eventually became her downfall. Sebastian stopped pursuing me because he knew that the person I had become was someone he no longer deserved.Instead, he decided to take Leo back to the territory. The day they left, Leo kept looking back at me every few steps."Mama, I'll train hard!" he called out, fighting back tears.Leo said that because Sebastian had come to see me the day before. He knew there was no future for us, but he couldn't bear to have Leo suffer for his mistakes. "Back in the territory, Leo trained as hard as he could every day because he wanted to be strong enough to protect you. He missed you. He wanted to apologize to you. Faye, I failed you. You have every right to hate me. But Leo…" He hesitated, his voice catching. "Could you…"The once-proud alpha's eyes had turned red as he looked at me with a plea so humble it was almost painful.I understood what he meant.Leo was only four years old now. He wasn't the cold, heartless werewolf he would become in my previous life.I looked at Leo an

Elina had no comeback. Fury still burned across her face. "The only reason Sebastian turned out like this is that you hid from him and played games!""So, according to you, I should've stayed in that rundown house, waiting for the day he finally remembered I existed. And when that happens, I should go down on my knees and thank him the moment he beckons me to him like some sort of pet?"Was I supposed to spend my life in fear and uncertainty just because of my weak bloodline? Was I supposed to be nothing more than a woman waiting endlessly for the man she loved? To wait for a werewolf from the age of 20 until my hair turned white? Was I not supposed to let go when our relationship was dead? Was I not supposed to do what I was doing now? How was that fair?I had already lived through that painful mistake once. I'd grown old. I'd died to an illness. I'd suffered our separation. I had endured being forgotten. My heart had already died once for my so-called mate. Never again.I f

From that day on, Sebastian and I became strangers.Even so, he continued doing whatever he pleased, shamelessly trailing after me. I did my best to ignore him.…A few days later, an unexpected visitor arrived in town."Sebastian! Was abandoning your own territory during a rebellion really worth it just for a weak woman?"Even though I had not seen her in a long time, I recognized Elina's voice immediately. She stood on the beach in a leather jacket, her blonde hair whipping in the wind. Anger blazed across her striking face.Sebastian did not answer. He simply stood on the steps, looking down at her with icy indifference. "Elina, you saved my life once. In return, I gave you the status of a Loyalist in my territory. We are even now. Go back to where you belong.""Why? Is all of this because of Faye? She's nothing but a worthless woman with a weak bloodline! You're an alpha. What is it about her that you can't forget?""Her bloodline may be weak, but she is still the mate Dia

And then, there was Leo. Unlike Sebastian, he never seemed to notice the tension between us. As far as he was concerned, the three of us were finally living together as a family again.Every morning, he would practice hand-to-hand combat on the beach. The moment he saw me, he would call out, "Mama!"When I noticed the sweat on his forehead and the eager sparkle in his eyes, I knew he was hoping I would praise him.Unfortunately for him, I dashed his hopes and said, "There are humans everywhere here. Put your claws away and get back to your territory. You should be training elsewhere.""Papa says a true alpha can temper himself anywhere," Leo replied earnestly, sounding like he actually believed what he was preaching.I did not respond. After all, Sebastian certainly hadn't taught him that in my previous life.…One day, I headed back to my RV right after closing up my food truck. Before I got there, I heard a woman's loud voice coming from the yard.It was Brenda, the biggest
