Maya's POV.
The alpha had not mentioned a single word of what had happened to me yet.
All he did was ensure I had my clothes on and was properly invested in my bed before he left.
I could see him from the side of my bathroom while I changed into my nightwear checking for marks on my bodies. Scars, burns, anything at all. He must have peeped over a thousand times before I called his name to ask if there was something wrong.
“No. Nothing at all, get some sleep. Goodnight.” But then he left me and closed the door.
The moment his footsteps disappeared into the silence hallway, I adjusted out of my bed and sat up straight.
“Melissa.” I whispered. “Melissa, are you up?”
“Hey Maya, what's up? What's going on?”
“The coast is clear. We can talk now.”
Before the fire started, Melissa stirred within me. She tumbled, scratched and howled inside of me.
I thought of it as nothing, not until the fire blasted quickly and she took over my body without my control, shielding me off from the fire with a blazing fire of her own.
My eyes witnessed it for about a second before everything went dark.
“What happened?”
“I don't know.” She answered. “It just happened.”
“The fire. You were trying to warn me before it even happened, weren't you?”
“I'm not sure. I just felt uncomfortable and then the fire happened.”
I could feel the genuine confusion in her, she had no idea what was going to happen and had only shifted to save me.
To Melissa, I was grateful. My wolf saved my life, but that wasn't the case now. In saving my life, I was without a scar and that, apparently was the strangest feeling of my life.
Melissa had no explanation of what happened and neither did I.
It just happened…
“Go back to bed. From the look on the alpha's eyes, I can tell you have a lot of questions to answer.”
“You think he'll send me away?”
Melissa shook her head. “He looked more fascinated than he looked disappointed when you were coming out of the fire. He won't send you away but you have a lot of questions to answer. Get some sleep.”
My chest pounded in my chest while I laid back in bed, my thoughts far from blank, my eyes strained and itchy from lack of sleep as the memories of what had happened played in my head.
I was scared.
Not sure what I was scared of, but my pounding heart didn't let me get much sleep.“”””
Morning came quick, the sunlight filtered through my curtains and beamed directly on my face, long enough to wake me.
I got out of bed with a terrible headache. Probably because I hadn't slept much last night, I told myself before I rushed to the bathroom to brush my teeth.
The knock on the bathroom door jolted me from the remaining sleep in my eyes.
I threw water on my face to waken my nerves before I opened the door. “Luna.” A maid called. “Good morning Luna. How was your night?”“Fine.” I stepped forward with a smile. Hers shifted slightly to a thinner lip as she took a step back from me.
I noticed the slight expression but moved beyond it.
“Yes?”“The alpha asked that I come get you. A seer is downstairs waiting to have a look at you.”
‘Told you.’ Melissa’s voice crept into my thoughts.
“Alright.” I thanked the maids, maintaining where I stood before. “Tell the alpha I'll be done in a minute. I just need to get dressed.”
“I'll help you.” She looked uncomfortable with her expression again. “The alpha asked that I help you get dressed so we wouldn't waste much time.”
“Oh.” I paused, a little shocked. “You really don't have to.”
“No. The alpha insisted that I helped you.” She said once more and without a chance to react, I watched as she took off to my closet and started taking out what I was meant to wear.
The maid was helpful. She helped me heat water up, helped with a bath and brushed my hair. The royalty treatment wasn't something I was used to but enjoyed. In less than an hour, the maid and I were walking down to the living room where the alpha king and the seer were seated waiting.
“Good morning Maya.” Alpha Williams greeted me with a bright smile, “Why don't you have a seat right next to me?” he tapped on the vacant space between him and the seer.
The seer, a fragile woman with weary skin, dressed in sack clothings with hair that had not been combed for years, flashed me a bright smile.
“Good morning Luna.”“Good morning.” My voice turned into a whisper, goosebumps crawled underneath my skin.
“Good morning Alpha. Why is she here?” Alpha Williams eyed the seer before he shifted his gaze to me. “I believe the maid told you who she is. I brought the pack seer here to have a look at you. After yesterday, I wasn't sure what happened and so I called her to come visit. Why don't you have a seat and let her begin?”My heart dropped to my stomach as I obeyed the Alpha's command, my thoughts ran wild with what the seer would find. Would she label me bad and ask the alpha to send me away?
Her hands felt wrinkly and warm when she reached for the inside of my palms. A sly smile cornered on her lips and then she asked me to relax.
“This will only take a moment. Take a deep breath and close your eyes.”I listened and pretended to do what she asked as I lowered my back into the couch and shut my eyelids.
I felt her hand over mine, her heat spreading over mine and seeping gently into my body.
Melissa stirred within me, my wolf was uncomfortable with her presence near me. “Let go of her palm.”“Why?”
“Let go!”
I snatched my hands from her at once, clicking my eyes opened as I shifted away from the seer.
“What happened?” Alpha William question.
I turned to him, his expression filled with concern and curiosity.
But it was not directed to me. He meant to speak to the seer. His question was for her.The seer swallowed hard and then shook her head.
“This is way beyond us, alpha William…”What did that mean?
Alpha Williams' POVI was good as new when I sat down for rest but movement was form of torture worse than fierce battle. My head shot back, holding in tears, screams and moans as a maid dug her fingers in-between my veins and bones, massaging the clogged muscles.“Alpha, does it hurt?” She questioned when my legs shook involuntarily.I suppressed the daggers in my eyes, “Just… a little.”“Apologies. It has to be done.” She coiled her fingers into the balm next to her. “I'm… almost done.”Her hands returned to my legs, ice cold and squishy as she smeared the balm over me. I pressed my eyes tight, my lips tied together as my head shot back over the chair. The pain coming stung inside my brain.“Just a couple more.”“Here and there.”“Alright, we're done.” Her tiny fingers slid off me, wiping gently across the rag beside her. “You'll feel swollen for a bit then after a while, you'll be better.”“Thank you.” I sat straight, “I appreciate this.”“You're welcome. It's so good to have you
Maya's POV“We’ve been circling that tree for the last one hour. Where the heck are we?”The forest didn't feel so empty with Melissa back. I shifted a couple of times just to be sure. She was.But with her renewed energy came more focus on me— on the path we took.“I've tried walking in this direction.” I pointed to the dense part of the forest, the darkness thicker than a fog. “This is harder than I thought it would be.”“We should try running on trees.”“Good idea.”Melissa took over quickly, in one moment, I was fully wolf, she sprang up onto the tree next to us, latching with her claws that buried deep into the trunk.“See anything?”“Nothing yet.”“Try harder.”Melissa sniffed the air for any sign of life, nothing. She skipped a few trees in the direction of the darkness, the deeper we got, the more confusion flickered inside us. With a low growl, Melissa gave up. She shifted back to me, lowering to the floor.“I give up.”“That was fast.” “Yeah. I can't take it anymore. You do
Alpha Williams’ POVThe first thing I felt when I woke was the weight of the world pressing against my chest… not pain, not confusion… just awareness.Air filled my lungs like it hadn’t in years. My breath was fresh enough to ice.My fingers twitched before I even knew I could move them. The room was bright but then my eyesight returned fully and it dimmed. My nose twitched next, the smell of herbs roamed in the air. My wolf whispered my name.“Balor.” I gasped in disbelief, this time the words echoed sound. “You're back!”“Thank goodness.” His cocky attitude was back too. “What's that?”Herbs. The smell of herbs pressed a chokehold on me. My insides tickled, I sneezed gently. “It's herbs. The ones that didn't kill me while I was asleep, they want to kill me now.”I sat up slowly, testing every joint, every nerve. My legs felt heavy but they worked ... by the goddess, they worked. Before I could process it, the door burst open.“Alpha!” Justin’s voice thundered, echoing through the wa
Sarah's POV“Why did you need her to stop over?”Logan’s rumbling over the phone sounded static to me. Nothing he said made sense, bile rose in my throat. I closed my eyes, fighting to suppress the anger building in me.“So you're telling me they are on their way now?” “They should be. I didn't take that long with her.” Logan finally cleared. “Expect the delivery in fifteen.”His assurance came fifteen minutes ago, seated beside Thomas with my eyes fixed on the door, I couldn't help but feel uneasy.“What's wrong?” Thomas reached for my hand. His weight pressed down on my palm, enough for me to stop tapping the armrest so anxiously.“She's not here yet. Something feels wrong.”“You might just be overthinking this thing. Calm down a little.”His words were reassuring when it concerned my health but with with Maya— they held no meaning.“Go out and find her.”“There's no way you want me to go out and find her just because—“I'm serious, go out and find her.” I cut in. Thomas saw the lo
Maya's POV.“Make it quick.” The second werewolf told me. “I don't have a minute more to spend here.”I nodded, squeaking over to the blind spot behind the dark tree, crotched over and bent like I was about to pass out urine.“Do it now.”I poked out of the tree. The air was cold, the guards head turned the other way, his eyes fixed on the driver scrolling his phone, their lips moved in a conversation.I swallowed, the bushes behind me looked thick enough to hide me, their leaves rustling, hiding the sounds of my footsteps.“I can do it.” I whispered to myself. Then move!I pushed my clothes back in place, slipped out of my shoes as I picked them up. As slow as a snail, I took my first step.My heartbeat was through the roof. My breath hollowing. My eyes went over my shoulder twice before I took another step. By my fourth breath, I made it in hiding. The bushes were thick enough but too obvious— I needed a plan.My eyes shot at the stream down the way. It flooded into a river down a c
Alpha Williams' POVI heard it all.The kidnap, how it was all going down, everything. My body stayed still, unmoved even while a war erupted inside me as I fought to move my body.I screamed in my head, “Don't take her! Bring her back! You better leave her alone or I'll kill you!”“Hey! Let her be!” I yelled. “Hey!”“Don't you dare.” I heard Maya fight, I heard scuffling, I heard her gasp, I heard her fighting to be free from them but a whiff in the wind and Maya had stopped fighting. They spoke to her, warning her to stay put or she would regret it.She resisted once more and I never heard from her again. Only the sound of footsteps fading quietly into the hallway as those bastards carted away with my mate.A tear fell from the side of my eye, my pinkie moved as I struggled to get my body to work.“Move it, dammit! Fucking move!”“Move!”No reaction. I twitched once but that was it.I slumbered back into the state I was. Like a vegetable without a brain. I was too weak to drag in an
