Vincent POV

It was dead quiet this morning. Myra had been brought to the infirmary at dawn. Her breathing was shallow and her pulse was weak again. The healers were saying all kinds of words I didn’t want to hear. I heard unstable, relapse, and fatigue a hundred of times already.

Then, Doctor Anderson arrived. He bowed low, “Your Majesty,” he said, “I’ll need full access to the child’s files. I prefer to see the truth with my own eyes, not through another doctor’s mistakes.”

By another doctor, he meant Dr. Lean. I gestured for Beta Rowan to hand him the records. “You’ll have everything you need.”

He examined the data, muttering under his breath. The scratching of his pen echoed through the room but I refused to be distracted.

Delilah and her parents sat nearby, pretending to care. While Delilah’s mother clasped her pearls, her father nodded whenever the doctor spo

Adeline’s POVThe morning started quiet, oblivious of the bad news about walking in. I was sorting new reports when the door opened without a knock. Dr. Anderson walked in, dressed in his polished coat. His expression told me he wasn’t here for work.“Doctor Lean,” he said, his voice carrying the usual self-importance. “I thought I’d come by myself instead of sending a note. His Majesty has agreed to my proposal.”I straightened the tablecloth that didn’t need fixing. “Proposal?”“The trial,” he said, smiling like it was a victory. “The Alpha King has approved it. My methods will be used. You can pause all your work from this moment. I’ll take over your patient.”I didn’t answer at first. I studied him, wondering how someone could speak so proudly about testing a child. “So you came to deliver this yourself?”“Of co

Vincent POVAnderson came storming into my office before sunrise, breathing fire as though the world owed him an apology.“Your Majesty,” he began, his voice full of indignation, “I have never been treated with such disrespect in my career.”I didn’t lift my eyes from the report I was signing. “I imagine that’s because most people don’t have the patience to endure your lectures.”He blinked. “I beg your pardon?”“You’re pardoned,” I said casually. “Now, what’s the problem?”He straightened his posture, offended but eager to voice out his pain. “That woman you appointed—the one who calls herself Doctor Lean was insubordinate. She refused to remove her mask, ignored my authority, and mocked my experience.”“Mocked?” I asked. “Or disagreed?”“Both!” He slammed a h

Adeline POV“Dr. Anderson,” I greeted him, trying to be as respectful as I could. “Lead consultant for this review, I assume?”He raised his chin with a faint smirk which I didn't care about. “Indeed. Senior Chair of the Northern Territories. I must say, I expected something different.”“Define ‘different,’ Doctor,” I said. My hands were folded neatly behind my back, gloved as always. He gestured vaguely at me. “A face, perhaps. Confidence usually doesn’t hide behind fabric, unless you're not. You know, confident.”“My face stays covered during consultations,” I replied. “It's a way to prevent contamination control, sensory restraint for patients who are shape-shifters, and to stay anonymous in sensitive cases.”“Ethical anonymity.” His mouth twisted when he found the right words. “How convenient. Most people

  • The Alpha King Is Our Daddy   Chapter 87

Adeline POVThe morning air was cold enough to sting. My fingers ached as I tightened the strap of my satchel and stepped out of the lab’s steel doors. After three nights of no sleep and too much caffeine, I should’ve been grateful for the quiet, but quiet never lasts long under the Alpha’s direct watch. They waited for me now, their eyes following my every move. I was like the only doctor who still bothers to care about the capital’s marble towers and these mud-streaked streets.I like it this way though as it kept away the ghosts from my past. But the universe always has a cruel sense of humor.I hadn’t even finished morning rounds when one of the nurses rushed into the clinic, breathless. “Dr. Lean, the King’s guards are nearby. They say the Alpha himself came to inspect the northern sector.”For a moment, everything inside me went still. Then the familiar ice crept up my spine.

Vincent's POVMy wolf stirred inside me, urging me to hold her. I sat on the edge of the bed, then she turned slightly to glance at me. Her eyes are so much like mine.“She didn’t hurt me,” she mumbled into the pillow. “She saved me.”“I know. No one will say otherwise here again.”“They already did,” Myra said in a small voice.“They won’t anymore.” I meant every word. She hesitated, then reached out with a trembling hand. Her fingers brushed mine. I took her hand and held it. My chest finally loosened.“Don’t cry,” I said, wiping her cheek with my thumb. “I’m here.”“I know,” she whispered. Her voice cracked. “But she’s not.”“She?”“My…” She paused and swallowed. “My mom.”Adam went still inside me, listening.
