I have had my fair share of anxiety, but nothing compared to what I was feeling before my cellphone chimed, notifying me of a text. The same one that I have been waiting for since Evan did his thing with Kaylee, getting control of her mind, even though they never had any sexual relations.

I would have asked him how he did it if I weren’t nervous about the plan to use Kaylee to get Haylee out of the palace. Although I had stupidly trusted Kaylee because I believed we were kindred souls who wanted the same thing, Evan was able to find out that she had been meeting Haylee secretly.

While secret meetings between sisters wouldn’t have been suspicious, Kaylee and Haylee were anything but sisters.
