Shock. That was the expression on his face. His eyes were wide, his whole face locked in shock. And I immediately regretted telling him that.

Was he going to think I was weird? Would he go about telling people that I was having a weird dream? Would he think I was psycho?

Oh, if Nina got wind of this, she'd bully me to no end.

Blair reacted fast, almost as if she could sense my discomfort. She shot forward, her voice firm and almost defensive. “She is not crazy, okay? She has been through things. It looks to me like trauma. That is what this is.” She glared at Adam like she was daring him to argue. Her hand pressed against mine, squeezing tight as though her grip alone could shield me.

I wanted to tell her it was fine, that she did not need to defend me like I was some fragile doll, but it felt good to be stood up for. It felt good to feel known and understood.

Adam blinked, his face softening, and when he finally spoke, his voice carried no judgement. “I am sorry, Jacki

JACQUELINEThe room felt heavier the longer the silence dragged between them. I could not stop the tears. They rolled fast and hot, soaking into my skin until my whole face felt swollen. I pressed the heel of my palm against my eyes, but it did nothing to stop it. My chest burned with how uneven my breathing was.“Jackie,” Adam said carefully, his voice softer than I had ever heard it. “What is it really? What is going on inside you? Tell me.”He shifted closer, but not too close. His voice was steady, though I caught the faint strain at the end. His hand rested against his knee, as if he was afraid to reach for me without permission. “And I am sorry,” he added, eyes flicking briefly toward Blair. “Sorry about the fight. It should not have happened.”Blair’s lips parted like she wanted to cut in, but she pressed them tight together first. Her hands wrung in her lap, knuckles turning white before she finally whispered, “I am sorry too, Jackie.” She leaned forward, her face a mess of wo

EZRAThe crowd was still murmuring when I saw Tarius move.He pushed forward from the front of the pack. His steps were too quick, his face drawn tight in a way that had nothing to do with my speech. My words had not even fully settled into silence yet when he came closer. His eyes looked wild, and I knew instantly that something was wrong.“Alpha Tades,” he said, his voice low but urgent. “We have a problem.”The pack was watching. I caught the strain in his tone, the way he tried to keep it quiet, even though his eyes were filled with fear. “What problem?” I asked flatly. He swallowed hard before answering. “Beatrice. She is gone.”The air seemed to still. The restless murmurs behind me quieted into uneasy silence, as if the crowd had somehow heard him even though his voice had not carried far. My jaw locked.I stepped down from the rise where I had stood, closing the space between us. “Where was she kept?” I asked. My voice was low and steady but heavy enough to silence even the f

JACQUELINEThe motel room smelled faintly of damp carpet and bleach. The curtains hung unevenly, and the sunlight cut through in crooked strips that landed across the bed. The comforter looked clean enough but worn, the kind of fabric that had been washed too many times.I sat on the edge of the bed as soon as we came in. My legs were too weak to hold me any longer. The moment I let my weight settle, my stomach lurched. I bent forward, resting my hands on my knees, breathing slowly, trying not to gag.Blair stayed standing. She looked restless, her eyes darting from me to the door to the ugly lamp in the corner. Her arms wrapped around herself. She was chewing on her lower lip.“This was a bad idea,” she said suddenly, her voice sharp and fast. “We should not have come here.”I lifted my head a little, though it made the room sway. “It is fine.”Her eyes widened. “No, it is not fine. We should have gone to a hospital. I do not even know why we followed that guy here. “His name is Ada

EZRAMorning came slowly.I woke at the crack of dawn and grinned in quiet satisfaction as I felt the soft press of Gyai's body against mine. Last night had been a dream… We had kissed and cuddled all day, and even though I'd been more than tempted to make love to her, it hadn't felt right. And I had finally decided that maybe it just wasn't the right time. We were not in a hurry. I had a whole lifetime to spend with her. Mating was certainly going to happen. I sat up with reluctance, elbows pressing against my knees, hands rubbing down my face. My hair was tangled from the night. My chest was heavy with the thought of what lay ahead. I had not come here only for Gyai, but now that I had found her, my thoughts had already begun to drift. A family. A future. Something more than endless wandering. I did not want to miss out on more years.I pushed myself to my feet and moved through the room in silence so as to not wake Gyai, pulling on fresh clothes, fastening the cuffs slowly, and

JACQUELINEMy eyes cracked open as I slowly came back to myself. I blinked a few times before faces started to clear in front of me. Adam was the closest. He was holding me by the shoulders, his eyes sharp and serious. His mouth was pressed tight, and he looked like he was trying to keep it together. Behind him was Blair. She looked so scared that it hurt to see her. Her eyes were red, her mascara smudged under them, and her lips trembled like she wanted to scream again. The music from the club kept thumping in the background. It was so loud that I could feel it in my chest. The smell of alcohol and sweat drifted out every time the door opened behind us. People were standing around, staring, whispering, their phones out.Tears started rolling down my face before I even knew I was crying. They were hot and heavy, soaking into my hair. My throat burned when I spoke, the words breaking as they came out. “Save me,” I whispered. Then louder, shaking, “Please save me.”Blair dropped down t
