Killian stared at the woman in front of him, she was looking everywhere but at him, trying to avoid his eyes. She seemed to be scared of him as she shrunk back under his gaze. He hadn't been able to see her properly the previous day because it was dark and the rush and excitement of it all. Now when he looked at her properly, he could see she was quite pleasing to look at. While he wouldn't call her the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, she had features that were charming to look at and made her pretty.
She had long blonde hair. Her face was heart shaped, her eyes were moon shaped and they were the most beguiling turquoise green. She had a pointed nose and full lips. And she had this innocence about her that set Killian's entire body on fire and made him glad that she was his.
'His mate', Killian corrected himself. He had to stop thinking like that.
Sara squirmed uncomfortably under Killian's gaze, it was hard not to. He was staring at her so intensely, like he wanted to eat her alive. Maybe he would do that. Sara had been shocked when the maid had bowed and called him alpha. The person who had saved her was the alpha of the Blue Moon pack? The whole thing was still surprising for her. Why had he saved her?
"What's your name?", Killian asked suddenly, startling Sara.
"Huh?", Sara asked, confused.
"Your name, I didn't get your name", Killian told her.
"Oh, it's Sara"
"Sara", Killian repeated the name and despite what Sara thought, she liked the sound of her name coming from Killian.
"And are you feeling better, Sara?", Killian asked.
Sara nodded stiffly.
"Yes"
"That's good then. I just wanted to check that you're awake. I'll leave you to it then", Killian said and turned around to leave.
"Why...", Sara began and Killian paused.
"Why did you save me?", Sara asked softly.
Killian turned around and cocked his head at her curiously.
"Don't you feel it?", Killian asked her.
Sara blinked confusedly.
"Feel what?", she asked back.
"The mate bond", Killian answered in a matter of fact tone.
Sara's head exploded.
She suddenly remembered hearing him growl 'mate' just before she passed out the previous night but she had thought that was just her imagination.
"Mate bond?", she croaked.
Killian eyed her curiously and walked to her.
"Yes, the mate bond. I felt it in the woods last night and followed it, it led me to you", Killian told her.
Sara was wide eyed now and her mind was working over time. Was he trying to say that she was his mate?
"But that's impossible"
Killian eyed her.
"Why? Why is it impossible?", Killian asked her.
Sara stopped herself before she could say anything.
"It just is", she answered softly.
The two stayed in silence, with Killian staring at Sara, curiosity in his eyes and Sara avoiding his gaze.
"I want to go home. When can I return home?", Sara asked finally cutting the silence.
"As my mate and future Luna of the pack, I would hope you would stay here", Killian answered.
"But...", Sara began to protest but Killian interrupted her.
"But you don't seem to believe me about the mate bond so why don't you rest up for now and later we can go see the moon priestess, and we can ask her", Killian suggested and Sara considered his words.
It was a good suggestion.
"Ok", she nodded in agreement.
"Good", Killian said and left.
Sara laid in the silence, trying to sort out her thoughts until the door opened and the maid from earlier walked in.
"My lady, do you need anything?", she asked softly.
Sara regarded her. She was pretty and had a kind smile.
"What is your name?", Sara asked her.
"I'm called Violet, my lady", the maid answered.
"Violet", Sara repeated the name.
"Violet, why do you keep calling me 'my lady'?", Sara asked.
"May I be honest my lady?", Violet asked.
"Of course"
"When the alpha brought you back last night, you were unconscious. He carried you in his arms and wouldn't let anyone else touch you. When the healers were attending to you, he was pacing about outside worried. So I figured you must be important to him", Violet answered.
"Well I'm not anyone important and honestly the my lady thing makes me cringe. I think we are around the same age as well so you can just call me by my name instead, Sara"
Violet looked like she was thinking about it before a smile broke on her face.
"Alright then, Sara", she said and Sara smiled back.
"And uh, thank you for not telling the alpha about the little incident earlier", Sara thanked her.
"Not a problem my- er Sara. I figured you were just scared, I would be too", Violet reassured her with a smile.
"And I know he seems cold but our alpha really isn't that bad", she added.
Sara smiled at her but she wasn't sure how much she believed that.
Killian walked to the council room where his council members were already waiting for him. They all bowed when Killian entered the room. Killian waved them off and stalked over to the head of the table.
"Let's start the meeting", Killian announced.
"I think our most pressing issue right now should be the number of rogue wolf attacks", Cillian, one of the elders, pointed out immediately and the others nodded their heads in agreement.
"Yes, their attacks have become more frequent over the course of the last few weeks and getting closer and closer to our territory", another elder pointed out.
"General, what are we doing about this?"Alfred, another council member, asked , looking at Jared, general of Killian's army.
"We are working very hard to pinpoint the exact source of their attacks so we can nip the threat in the bud", Jared answered.
"Work harder", Killian said coldly.
"Where I encountered them yesterday was dangerously close to our borders, too close", Killian said.
"Yes my alpha", Jared answered through gritted teeth.
"Speaking of yesterday..", Cerebus, a high ranking member of the council that had been quiet the whole time began to speak.
"My alpha, another full moon has passed and you're yet to find your mate", he pointed out.
"This I believe, is a more pressing matter", He added and there was rumbles of agreement from around the table.
Killian frowned as he looked at him.The issue of his mate had been a pressing matter for his council since he turned 25 without a mate. They always made it a point to stress how much the pack needed a Luna, for stability they always said. That may have been the intentions of the other council members, but Killian knew Cerebus' true intentions. He glanced at Jared. The two had been trying to pressure him to take Jared's daughter, Lydia as a mate saying she was a perfect fit to be the Luna. And while Jared was a good general, he was too ambitious and Killian didn't want to be tied to him anymore than necessary.
"In regards to that, I have good news to share with the council", Killian said.
Everyone at the table became silent.
"I have found my mate", Killian announced and registered the varying looks of shock and surprise on each of his council members.
"What?!", Jared exclaimed forcefully before he realized and checked himself.
Surprise flashed on Cerebus' face but he quickly regained his composure.
"That is good news my alpha", Cerebus spoke first.
"Indeed", a rumble of agreements followed across the table.
"When did you find her? And is she someone we know?", Cillian asked.
"Last night, under the full moon in the woods", Killian answered calmly.
Killian watched as realization flashed in Jared's eyes.
"My alpha, are you by any chance talking about the young woman you brought back yesterday?", Jared asked suspiciously.
"Yes, she is my mate", Killian answered.
There was an outburst of murmurs among the council members.
"That's good. It is a good thing that our alpha has found his mate", Cerebus said with a smile.
"And where is from, my alpha? Do you know?", Cerebus asked.
"Not yet, but later we will go see the moon priestess to learn more about our bond"
"That's good. That's good", Cerebus said, smile still plastered on his face.
Actually, Killian had a suspicion of where Sara was from given where he had found her but he wasn't going to say that here not until he knew for sure, because he knew, the fact that the future Luna of the pack might be from the Red Moon pack would be a more pressing matter for his council members than his mateless status.
“Did he know I added the pill? The color remained the same, and nothing about the odor changed. Oh no…did it taste different?” Various thoughts flashed through Violet's mind as she darted her eyeballs around. She suddenly began to feel so hot despite the cool breeze that blew inside.“Violet?” Killian called out, causing Violet to raise her eyes sharply at him.“I…I don't understand what you are talking about, my Alpha. I didn't add anything to the water.” Violet stuttered, rubbing her fingers against one another.“Well…” Killian paused, dropped the cup on the table and smiled.“The water felt so refreshing, and it calmed my boiling nerves. That's why I asked you the question. Don't overthink it.” He said to her calmly. Violet took a deep breath, bit her lower lip and sighed.“You can leave.” Said Sara as she dismissed Violet. She turned to Killian, looking so perplexed as she was unsure of what just happened.“What happened just now? Did she truly mix something with the water?” Sara
“My Alpha, are we going to ignore the moon priestess warnings? I am sure she said those words for no reason.” One of the elders chipped in during the council meeting with Killian.Killian sighed, brushed his hair with his hand and shook his head.“It troubles me also. I don't understand what she meant by those words she said to Sara. Or does she imply that we use Sara as a sacrifice? That can't be possible.” Another elder added after Killian took a while to respond.Killian glanced at the two elders, they were elder Maxwell and elder Keon. Both of them had opposed him violently when he wanted to ascend the throne as the alpha of the pack. It's not surprising to him if they were actually pressuring him to use Sara as a sacrifice.“I don't think that's what she meant, elder Keon. There is something you guys don't know, and I am ready to tell you now.” Killian paused to take a deep breath. He tightened his grip around his chair, realizing the weight of what he was about to say.“Sara is
“Mother, I thought you died. How have you been all these while? You’ve suffered.” Zayne cried, he placed his mother on a sofa and sat beside her.Calypso, Zayne's mother grabbed his hand, stroked it gently and smiled. Zayne had ordered the maids to clean her up and make her refreshed. In her current state, she looked nothing less than a beautiful maiden in mid-twenties.“Don't blame yourself my son. I also didn't expect to survive the huge fire. Luckily, I was saved by a young man who took me out of the pack. Probably due to the shock, I lost my memories and just regained them weeks ago.” She explained to him. Zayne brimmed widely as he listened to Calypso's talk. He nodded his head, grabbed a bottle of wine and poured some for Calypso.“I won't forgive Killian for making you pass through that. He will pay for his sins.” Zayne uttered, clenching his fists together while Calypso instantly held his hand and tightened it even more.“Yes son, you should avenge me. The red moon pack and th
“Really? You don't want to call me Zayne?” Zayned asked with a smile. He turned over to his left side so he could stare straight at Betty.“I mean…everyone calls you Zayne, I just want to be unique.” Betty hummed, she but his lower lip, wore a little frown that would make Zayne agree to her request.Zayne sighed, laid on his back while he stared blankly at the ceiling. Betty, upon seeing she got no response from Zayne stood up and placed her hand on Zayne's bare chest.“What are you thinking?” She inquired.“Vincent.” Zayne replied to her, his face was expressionless as he mentioned the name.“What?” Betty asked, her face crawling up in confusion.Zayne's emotionless expression suddenly disappeared as a warm smile formed in his lips;“Didn't you want a unique name for me? You just reminded me of my mother. She was the only one in the world that called me Vincent, she never called me Zayne. And I also remember the scar that was right on her forehead” He explained to her. Betty slowly w
“What do you think of what the moon priestess said? Her words somehow scare me?” Sara uttered as she laid on Killian's arm, gazing at the full moon, and the shining little stars.Killian tilted his head sideways, his lower lip curled up as a smile crept on his lips.“I feel like she just said that to intimidate you, she was probably joking.” Killian replied to her. Sara snorted, her brows furrowed in confusion while she pouted her lips.“It doesn't feel like that. She seemed so serious when she delivered the message, and something tells me that it's important I listen to her.” She sighed. Killian gently sat up, pulled Sara into his embrace while he slowly rubbed her hair.“Don't be afraid. I am here. I failed to protect you the last time, I assure you that nothing will happen to you again.” Killian assured her with a soft, yet firm voice. He slowly dragged his hand down her head and rested it on her belly.“Our…our child. How's it?” Killian stuttered, his head hitting hard as he dread
“Give us your blessings, moon priestess. We’ve accepted our mate bond, and thankfully, the prophecy can be reversed.” Zayne smiled at Betty as he said to the moon priestess. The moon priestess nodded her head, walked towards Betty and smiled.“Betty, right?” She inquired, slowly grabbing Betty's injured leg and applied some whitish cream on it.“Yes, moon priestess. I fell in love with Zayne at a glance, and I can say that I want to spend the rest of my life with him.” Betty replied to the moon priestess who simply nodded her head without looking at her.The moon priestess took a deep breath, and glanced at Zayne.“It's done. Her leg should be perfectly healed in three days.” She stated, packing her stuff back into the bag.“Thank you moon priestess. It's our honor to have you here.” Zayne responded, still smiling at Betty. The moon priestess looked at Betty for a while, before a worried expression formed on her face. She seemed to give off a mixture of auras, one seemed calm and rela
