Chapter 43

And so the week went on. Every morning Larissa would invite herself into my room and wake me. I would put on one of the fine gowns that hang carelessly in the wardrobe and follow her down to breakfast. All of the servants glare at me on my way down to the dining room. Whispers and gossip follow me everywhere through the castle. They speak about how they see me coming and going from the Kings chambers every night and how they see our stolen kisses when we believe that no one is watching. Of course all of it is lies, no doubt spread by Larissa at the request of the King. In reality I spend every night trying to pick the lock of my bedroom door and every moment I spend with Alexander we spend bickering over how I am not being a proper chosen mate.

This morning is no different than the last. I had hoped that I would be able to have my breakfast in my room this morning because it is a Saturday. But as soon as the second bell rings, I hear the key in the lock of my bedroom door,
