Vira's POV

The silk lining of the wedding gown moved against my ribs as my mother pulled the silver corset laces tight enough to leave bruises on my skin.

I pressed my hands on the cold mahogany table, breathing in short, painful gasps.

"Stop breathing like that, Vira," my mother hissed, tying the thick ribbons into a hard double knot at the base of my back.

"If the Alpha King sees you panting like a fish out of water, he will know this dress was not made for you."

"I'm not a chicken Mother, I'm three inches wider than Elara at the waist, Mother," I said through clenched teeth, my cheeks burning under the thick white powder she had smeared on my face.

"And my hips are twice the size of hers. The moment I bow at the altar, these seams will tear open."

"Then do not bow," my father snapped, slamming the dressing room door shut. His face was pale and covered in sweat in the dim candlelight.

"Elara is gone.

She climbed the garden wall at dawn and ran away with that useless tracker.

If I enter that chapel with empty hands, King Gryfyn will cut off my head and take my lands before midday."

"Then tell him the truth!" I begged, turning my head as far as the stiff collar would allow.

"Offer him money! Do not lie to a man who commands forty thousand northern wolves!"

"He is an Alpha King, you foolish girl!" my father shouted, grabbing my shoulder and squeezing until it hurt.

"He does not take deals from weak southern lords. He came here for a bride to seal a blood treaty.

You will wear that veil, you will walk down that aisle, and you will keep quiet until we are far past his border."

"He will know the moment he touches my hand," I said, my voice shaking with anger and fear.

"I do not walk like Elara. I do not smell like her.

I have spent my whole life hiding in your gardens while you showed her off!"

"Then today you will finally be useful to this family," my mother spat, grabbing the heavy three-layered silver veil from the velvet cushion and throwing it over my head.

The thick lace fell over my eyes and everything turned dark and blurry.

Before I could lift it, my father grabbed my elbow with a painful grip and dragged my stiff, suffocating body out of the room and into the stone halls of the chapel.

Walking down the long aisle felt like walking to my death.

Through the dark lace, I could see the tall shadows of Northern war guards standing on both sides of the stone floor.

Their dark leather armor smelled of iron, dried blood, and cold mountain air.

At the end of the aisle stood a large, dark figure, Alpha King Gryfyn Black did not look like a groom.

He looked like an executioner, His broad shoulders stretched the dark velvet of his coat, and his wide chest rose and fell in slow, dangerous breaths.

The cold energy coming off him was so strong that my lungs felt frozen before I even reached the altar steps.

My father dropped my arm like I was dirty, and stepped back into the shadows.

I stood alone at the bottom of the stairs, my hands pressed tightly over the tight fabric across my stomach, my heart pounding like a trapped bird.

"You are late, Lord Lynx," a deep, rough voice growled from above.

The voice was cold and had no warmth at all.

"The bride was... preparing herself, My Lord," my father stammered behind me.

Gryfyn did not even reply, he just walked down the stone steps.

His heavy leather boots made soft sounds on the floor, and he stopped right in front of me.

The smell of pine, dark earth, and pure Alpha male hit me, and my wolf cowered in fear.

"Give me your hand," Gryfyn ordered, his voice sharp and cold.

My hand shook as I lifted it, My fingers looked pale through the lace glove.

The moment his large, rough palm closed around mine, a violent rush of heat shot through my body.

It was not sweet, It was painful, like an electric shock that hit my heart and made me gasp.

Gryfyn’s grip turned to steel, A low, dangerous growl came from deep in his chest.

Without waiting for the priest, without saying a word, his long fingers reached up, grabbed the heavy veil, and tore it off my head with force.

The cold air hit my face, and my dark hair fell over my bare, round shoulders.

Gryfyn stared down at me, His golden eyes were narrow and full of hatred.

He looked at my round face, my full dark brows, and down to the heavy curves straining against my sister’s small silk dress.

He did not look at me with surprise, He looked at me like I was dirt on his shoe.

"Who are you?" Gryfyn barked, his voice echoing through the stone walls.

"I... I am Vira," I whispered, trying to stay steady even though fear was choking me.

"Elara's sister."

Behind me, my father dropped to his knees and started begging.

Gryfyn did not even look at him, He stepped closer, his large body towering over me.

And his  golden eyes burned with anger, He just reached out and dug his thick thumb into my chin, forcing me to look up at him.

"A substitute," Gryfyn said quietly, his voice low and dangerous and making my blood run cold.

"Your coward of a father thought he could give me his unwanted daughter and insult my kingdom."

A painful lump rose in my throat, but I forced myself not to cry.

Not in front of him.

"I am not an insult, My Lord," I said, my hazel eyes burning with quiet anger.

"And I am not my sister."

"No, you are not," Gryfyn growled, letting go of my chin and grabbed my wrist, holding me tightly to his side.

Then he turned to his head warrior, his voice loud in the silent chapel "Kaelen! Arrest Lord Lynx, Take their food stores, double their taxes, and lock down their estate!"

"Gryfyn, no!" I gasped, trying to pull my wrist from his grip.

"Take me, but leave my people alone!"

Gryfyn looked down at me, His face was cold as ice.

"I am taking you, substitute," Gryfyn whispered in my ear.

His hot breath made me shiver with hate.

"You are coming to the North as my prisoner.

And you will pay for what your family did, every single day, until I find your sister.”

Vira's POV Gryfyn did not let go of my chin immediately. His thick thumb stayed pressed against my lower lip, his broad, calloused hand holding my face tilted up while his golden eyes burned into mine. The heat from his skin poured straight through my jaw, making my blood race and my core throb with a sudden, traitorous ache that made me hate my own body."You think you can fight me with sharp words, Vira," Gryfyn murmured, his voice dropping into a rough, low rasp that brushed against my cheek like hot velvet. "But your skin jumps every time I touch you, and your wolf is practically clawing at your chest to get closer to mine.""She is confused by an oath I never asked for," I forced out, my voice trembling slightly as I dug my short fingernails into the palms of my hands. "Release me, Gryfyn."His eyes dropped to my mouth for one long, agonizing second, his nostrils flaring wide as he took in the heavy, sweet scent of my rising pulse. He did not kiss me. Instead, he shoved his thum

Vira's POV The stone steps of the West Tower were cold and slick beneath my bare feet. Every step I took sent a sharp pain straight up my ankles, but I kept my back straight as the two female guards dragged me up the narrow spiral staircase. The air grew colder the higher we climbed, smelling of old dust, damp stone, and stale winter frost. We reached the top floor, where a thick oak door reinforced with heavy iron bars stood guarded by two male warriors carrying broad spears. One of the women pulled a massive brass key from her leather belt, jammed it into the lock, and turned it with a loud, metallic clack that sounded like a death sentence."Get inside," she growled, shoving my shoulder with enough force to send me stumbling over the threshold. My bare feet slipped on the rough stone floorboards, and I fell forward onto my hands and knees. The heavy oak door slammed shut behind me instantly, the iron bolt sliding into place with a dull, final thud.I stayed on the floor for a long

Vira's POV The wind was just blowing needles of ice against my face until my eyes watered and burned. The massive black warhorse beneath us plodded forward through three-foot snowdrifts, its broad, muscular shoulders straining with every heavy step upward.I sat stiffly wedged between Gryfyn’s broad thighs, my soft back pressed flat against the rock-hard wall of his chest. His heavy leather cloak was wrapped tightly around us both, trapping me inside a suffocating cocoon of scorching heat and his dark, intoxicating scent of pine needles, crushed slate, and raw Alpha male. His thick, tattooed left arm was locked across my midriff like an iron bar, his broad palm resting flat over the right side of my waist, pinning my full hips against his saddle frame so tightly that every movement of the horse slammed my soft seat against his dense muscle. His right hand held the leather reins, his arm brushing constantly against my bare, rounded shoulder through the gaping tear in my sister's sil

  • The Alpha King's Plus Size Substitute Bride   Chapter 4

Vira's POV Gryfyn shoved me down onto a flat granite boulder, his dark cloak falling open over my knees while the Northern wind howled through the pine needles above us. My fingers clutched the rough stone beneath me, my breathing coming fast and uneven as Gryfyn dropped to one knee in the freezing slush right between my parted legs."Hold still, Vira," Gryfyn ordered, his voice flat, rough, and entirely devoid of gentleness. He didn't look up into my eyes. He reached into his thick leather belt, pulling a long, broad hunting knife from its sheath with a sharp metallic slide that made my stomach drop into my boots. Before I could scramble back off the stone, his broad hand shot out, clamping around my left ankle like an iron shackle. He lifted my foot off the ground, his thumb digging deep into my soft calf through the wet, torn hem of my borrowed gown."What are you doing?" I gasped, my small hand slamming onto his broad shoulder to push him away, but his heavy frame didn't budge

Vira's POV The doors of the carriage door rattled with every violent lurch over the frozen mountain track, sending sharp vibrations straight through the unpadded wooden bench and into my spine. Snow swept in through the narrow, iron-barred slits near the ceiling, dusting my bare shoulders with bitter frost that made my skin break out in deep goosebumps.I clutched my arms across my chest, trying to hold in whatever little body warmth I had left. The broken whalebone stays of my sister's dress continued to poke directly into the soft flesh of my waist, every sudden jolt pushing the stiff plastic edge deeper into my skin like a dull knife. My ribs throbbed with a dull, sickening ache, the tight silk corset binding my chest so severely that every breath felt like dragging broken glass into my lungs.Outside, the steady, rhythmic thud of Gryfyn’s warhorse kept pace right beside my door.I leaned my head back against the cold timber wall, closing my eyes as my teeth chattered uncontroll

  • The Alpha King's Plus Size Substitute Bride   Chapter 2

Vira's POV The iron ring around my wrist felt less like an Alpha’s grip and more like a heavy shackle binding me to a sentence I had not earned. Gryfyn did not speak another word as he dragged me down the chapel steps. He moved with a broad, relentless stride that forced me to take two quick, breathless steps for every one of his, my borrowed satin skirts tangling violently around my knees until the seam near my left hip let out a sharp, audible tear.A few gathered nobles gasped, but Gryfyn did not even slow down. He dragged me across the courtyard’s frozen cobblestones, his heavy leather cloak snapping in the mountain wind like a black banner."Slow down," I forced out, my lungs burning as the tight whalebone stays of the corset crushed my ribs. I dug my heels into the frosted mud, trying to pull against his grip. "I cannot keep pace with you in this dress."Gryfyn halted so abruptly that I nearly slammed into the broad, iron-clad wall of his back. He turned slowly, his tall fram
