The Whisperer grinned even though it did not have a mouth. Doubt started to grow fast in their minds. Loneliness and despair fed it like water on seeds.

It went after the youngest one first. That was Lucian. His playful side had held up even when he turned into a swan. The Whisperer told him the worst lie possible.

She is not suffering for you, it hissed. She picked this path herself. She could stop it anytime. She could just talk. But she stays quiet. That means she does not care anymore.

Lucian's golden feathers shook a little. His heart used to float lightly. Now it dropped heavily like a rock.

Once the Whisperer stopped talking, the marsh lost its safe feeling. Shadows hung thick there. Doubt and fear pushed into every feather. They weighed on those breakable hearts.

The brothers moved around restlessly. Their calls came out sharp and sad. They flapped their wings hard against the fog.

Way off in Ironhold, Selene sat alone in her room. Her needle went steadily through the cloth. B

  • The Alpha King's Shadow   Chapter 77

The darkness enveloped me, not just surrounding, but inhaling me. It was thick and heavy, like being submerged in something alive, something with its own pulse.I didn't plummet immediately; instead, I sank, drawn down by an unseen force that felt like icy hands clutching at the very fabric of existence. My body floated, agonizingly weightless, suspended in the void. I was trapped, unable to breathe or move. Even my thoughts seemed to slow, sluggish, like thick syrup being stretched and pulled apart. Then, the bottom dropped out of the world. The air rushed past my face, whipping my hair around my head, stinging my eyes. A scream, silent and desperate, erupted from me, only to be swallowed by the vast emptiness. My stomach lurched, rising to slam against my throat.Suddenly, a hand wrapped around my waist.Aurek.I knew the possessive way he held me. It was desperate, protective, as if his fingers were the only things tethering him to reality.I struggled to speak to Aurek; I started,

I sprang toward her, and the platform decided it had had enough.Rings of white fire erupted around Selene, layered like an onion, each circle squeezing tighter and pulsing with her heartbeat. The magic was trying to box her in, to drag her into the ritual's heart. No way it was taking her.Not if I had anything to say about it.My feet slammed into the stone, hard enough to crack it. The fissures shot out, chasing the light until they smacked into the outer circle. The whole place shuddered, like something old and hungry was waking up down below.Selene tried to lift her head, but it looked like a struggle. Her voice cracked on my name, A-Aurek—The sound almost knocked me off my feet.Almost.But the awakening inside me was getting restless, hot and violent, like a flood rising in my chest. It surged outward, wanting her. My vision flickered, gold, white, then black.I shoved it back down.Just barely. The magic wasn't giving up. It tightened its grip on her.One of the rings squeez

  • The Alpha King's Shadow   Chapter 75

The light didn't just touch me; it slammed into me, hard. It wasn't a gentle embrace or a soft glow, but a brutal, crushing force.Imagine being thrown right into the heart of a star. That's what it felt like. The heat was intense, the pressure unbearable, and a white-hot noise tore through my senses. I couldn't breathe, my lungs locked up, and my vision dissolved into pure, blinding light.I tried to move, to fight back, but my body wouldn't listen. Even my thoughts felt sluggish and unresponsive. Then, something else began stirring inside me, pushing its way to the surface.A low rumble started deep in my spine, like a second heartbeat awakening. It spread quickly, climbing up my ribs, coiling around my throat. My fingers twisted and contorted, forming claws driven by raw instinct. The taste of iron and ozone filled my mouth. Then, a voice, not spoken but injected directly into my mind, echoed in my skull: Guardian. Do what you are told.My jaw clenched so hard it hurt—pain shot thr

  • The Alpha King's Shadow   Chapter 74

Okay, I will start to rewrite the text to sound more human-written and creative. Let’s begin!Okay, here it is:The dark wasn't just nothing. It had weight, like being underwater. Except instead of wet, it was just cold. So cold. And it had a pulse, a slow, heavy beat that made my teeth ache.As I fell, it felt like the dark was trying to hold me back. Like gravity was confused and didn't know if it wanted me to drop like a stone or float away. Bits of magic zipped past, like icy knives. The air vibrated deep down, a low hum that made me think of something huge waking up below.Aurek was up there somewhere. I couldn't see him, but I could feel him, a pull in my chest like a string tied between us, stretched so tight it might snap.I couldn't see a thing. My hair whipped around my face, stinging my eyes. And my heart! It was going crazy, a messed-up rhythm that wasn't mine. It was like my own heart was arguing with me.Then, a shape ripped through the dark.Aurek.He was falling faster

  • The Alpha King's Shadow   Chapter 73

My whole world had shrunk to this awful place, a never-ending nightmare of two things: this awful light and never-ending pain. The light was cold, not nice at all. It made me feel alone. The pain was always there, like bits of glass cutting me up, hurting my bones all the time. Each breath I took hurt so much, like fire in my chest. The chains weren't just metal; they felt alive, digging into my skin, messing with my heartbeat.A weird humming sound came from below, like something really bad was about to happen, like screams turned into words.I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to stay strong, and then opened them again. At first, everything was blurry, moving around. Then, slowly, I could see again. There was a circle glowing in a creepy way on the floor. White lines, like snakes, were all over the stone, moving with my heartbeat. Each beat made me feel sick. But right then, only one thing mattered.Aurek was there. His hands were burned, with skin falling off, showing how much he'd suf

  • The Alpha King's Shadow   Chapter 72

The second Aurek yanked those old iron doors open, the smell just about knocked us off our feet. It was a nasty mix of ancient blood, the funky scent of burnt herbs, and something sharp and metallic that felt totally alien, like it didn't belong anywhere on this planet.Aurek froze, his whole body going stiff.I bumped right into him, stopping short. The hallway stretched out in front of us, dark as pitch but definitely not empty. Shadows flickered and danced, but not in any normal way. They moved way too fast, too smooth, like they had a mind of their own. Creepy.Aurek's grip on his sword tightened until his knuckles were white. They're here, he breathed, the words barely audible. The Shades? I whispered back, my voice trembling a little. He shook his head, his voice even lower this time. Something a lot worse. He took a step forward, real slow and careful, but the muscle in his jaw was jumping like he was fighting to keep from losing it completely. Ever since we left the throne roo
