Alethea

Life in the Redwood Pack is nothing like life in the Blood Moon Pack. Selena takes care of me more than I ever thought anyone could. She treats me like I’m her own child.

Sometimes I wonder if my parents are looking for me… or if they already believe I’m dead. The thought alone makes something squeezes my chest.

Suddenly, my phone starts ringing, breaking my line of thoughts. I glance at the screen, it's Kayla.

I swipe it and answer quickly.

“Are you ready for the interview?” she asks, her voice full of energy.

“Hello to you too, Kayla,” I reply with a small smile.

Kayla is a pack member we clicked like we had known each other in years. I'm not used to having friends and honestly, I’m grateful. It feels so good to have someone who cares as against the life at Blood moon

She reminds me of the vacancy I’m applying for.

“Yes, I’m ready,” I say as I walk into the tall, glass building, Knight Group.

“Good. Remember what I told you. Be yourself. Don’t panic.”

“Okay,” I whisper, then end the call.

The place screams power. Everything is sharp, polished, intimidating. My stomach twists with nerves and my heart beats fast. I don't know what to expect.

I remind myself, I had the best education in Blood Moon Pack. Top of my class. But without a wolf, none of it ever felt like it mattered.

“Welcome to Knight Group. How may I help you?” the receptionist asks with a polite smile.

“I’m here for the interview,” I say, forcing my voice to stay steady. “For the position of personal assistant to the CEO.”

She nods. “Go inside and wait with the others.”

“Others?” I murmur, startled, but I follow her directions anyway.

In the conference room, my nerves spike. Everyone looks perfect, expensive suits, perfect hair, confidence radiating from them. I slide into an empty chair, trying to breathe.

Then suddenly the door opens. The air instantly changes.

A man steps inside. The whole room shifts around him, like he’s the center of gravity. Every movement, and his steps screams dominance.

He sweeps his eyes round the room and then finds mine.

His eyes are piercing green, it shifts something within me and it's as if the rest of the world disappears.

My heart slams in my chest. I can't believe it's as a voice whispers in my head. Mate.

I freeze. My blood turns to ice. What? I don’t even have a wolf, how can I recognize him?

He’s tall. Broad shoulders. Muscles shifting beneath his suit. His face is all sharp lines and power. A jaw that could cut glass. Cheekbones carved strong and screams power .

His gaze didn't leave mine, not even for a second. Does he feel it too?

“You. What’s your name?” His voice fills the room; it's deep, smooth and commanding.

Everyone turns to stare at me, heat rushes to my cheeks. I lift my chin, trying to mask the panic clawing through my chest as I try to see if he feels it too. But his face is unreadable.

“I… I’m Alethea. Alethea Weaver,” I manage, to say with a shaky voice.

He studies me for a long moment, his green eyes burning into me.

“Follow me.” his voice commands cutting like steel.

My body jolts at the sound of his voice. It vibrates through me, making my bones feel weak.

He turns and strides out without looking back to see if I'm coming or not back. I hesitate for a while because my legs feel heavy, but somehow I force them to move.

He leads me into a grand office, it's modern and elegant, and I feel his unmistakably alpha aura in the air.

“Sit,” he says, pointing to a chair opposite his desk. His voice leaves no room for disobedience.

I sink into the seat, my hands trembling in my lap.

He presses the intercom, eyes never leaving mine. “Dismiss the rest of the applicants.”

My breath hitches. Just like that, I’ve been chosen.

Adrenaline floods through me. This is my chance to prove myself.

He leans back, fingers steepled, studying me with an intensity that makes it hard to breathe. He asks questions that are sharp, precise and I answer as best as I can, with a steady voice. His nods from time to time makes me continue talking with his piercing green eyes, not leaving mine.

“That’s the mindset we need at Knight Group. Welcome aboard.” His lips curve into something unreadable.

I sigh in relief, but before I can even process it, his next words out of his mouth strike me like lightning.

"Pack your things. We’re leaving for a conference in the next city tonight," Asher says, with a firm commanding voice.

I nod, but I feel uneasy. Something about his offer feels strange, like there’s more behind it.

Just as I finish gathering my things, my phone buzzes with a message from an unknown number:

“Don’t trust Asher. He’s not who he seems.”

My heart pounds loudly in my chest. I glance around the room, suddenly I feel my nerves perking up like I'm being watched.

But I push that aside and I rush home to pack properly, my mind still spinning with questions about Asher and that warning text.

When I’m done, guards help carry my bags to the car. I climb inside, still searching for Asher, but he’s nowhere in sight.

I try to shake the thoughts of anxiety away, but I can’t ignore the pull he has on me. I’ve seen handsome men before, but Asher is different. His rugged looks, his strong build, the raw power he carries, it makes my pulse race. And my clit throbs leaving me restless.

After hours on the road, we arrive in Northville, a city in the north. Humans, werewolves, and other supernaturals live here together, but rumors say they run shady dealings beneath the surface.

"Stay close to me, Miss Weaver," a deep voice cuts into my thoughts, making me jump.

"Goddess, you scared me!" I clutch my chest, trying to steady my heartbeat as I turn to see who.

AletheaMy brain feels like it has been drained dry like someone sucked the thoughts right out of my head. My eyes are foggy as if smoke is clouding my vision. A relentless headache pounds against my skull and my entire body feels weak, but the sensation that I've been run over by a truck makes me wince in pain. I try to pry my eyes open, desperate to catch a glimpse of where I am and what's happening around me, but it feels impossible. My eyelids are so heavy as if they're weighed down by lead. I lift my hand-at least, I try to. But it's too damn heavy. It takes everything in me just to move my fingers. Try harder. Summoning every bit of willpower I have left, I force my hand up to my face. The moment my fingers brush against my skin, something shifts. With one final push, I wipe my eyes, and-boom. My eyelids suddenly give way, peeling open with effort. Blinding light greets me, and I blink rapidly as my surroundings come into focus. Confusion tightens around my chest. Where.

AsherMy gut tells me that this is more than just a simple kidnapping. Ally wasn’t taken at random. Someone has been waiting for this moment. Someone who has known all along who she truly is. And if Selena has been keeping her hidden all these years, then she knows something too. Something she hasn’t told me. I turn to face her, watching as she wipes her tear-streaked face. Her hands tremble, her breathing uneven. She’s scared. But I don’t have time to comfort her. I need answers. “Selena,” I say, with a firm voice. “Tell me the truth. All of it. Why would someone take Ally? And don’t tell me you don’t know—because I can see it in your eyes. You do.” She hesitates, looking away, her fingers curling into tight fists. That’s all the confirmation I need. I take a step closer. “You’ve been hiding her for a reason. That means you knew this day would come. What are they after? What does Ally have that they need?” Selena exhales shakily as if trying to steady herself, but her e

Asher"What the fuck are you telling me? Ally has been taken?"I roar through the mind link; my voice blazing off with fury. My hands tremble as I clutch the desk in my office, my claws threatening to pierce through the wood."I gave you a fucking instruction to guard her with your life, and you're telling me she's gone?"My chest rises and falls rapidly, rage and panic mixing in a lethal storm in me. I can't wrap my head around it. Just when I was about to make things right with her—boom. My mate is taken.I rake a hand through my hair, my breath coming in sharp bursts. Oh, Goddess. Can the universe be any more cruel?Across the room, Declan shifts slightly in his sleep, curled up on the couch like he doesn’t have a single worry in the world. I force myself to calm down, taking a deep breath so I don’t wake him. But the relief is short-lived."Where are you now? How the hell did this happen?" I demand through the mind link.Liam’s voice comes through, strained and filled with regret.

Alethea Liam stiffens the moment he receives the mind link. I notice the tension in his shoulders, the way his jaw tightens, but I don’t ask what it’s about. It’s none of my business. At least, that’s what I tell myself—until he turns and looks at me. His gaze is intense and unreadable, but I can feel it. This is about me. “What?” I finally ask, my spoon pausing mid-air. Liam exhales sharply. “Alpha Asher says I should bring you back. Immediately.” My eyes widened. Just like that? He suddenly decides I have to go home? “He misses you, Ally,” Xena purrs in my head, her voice laced with longing. I roll my eyes. “To hell with missing me.” She huffs but doesn’t argue. I turn back to Liam. “But I just got here.” He doesn’t respond, but his expression tells me he won’t defy his Alpha’s command. Still, I push. “Come on, Liam. You can stay with me the whole time if you want, but I’m not leaving yet. The city is beautiful, and I haven’t even seen half of it.” I pout a

AsherWhat the hell is Ally doing at Gaita's place? That Witch has never seen anything but doom and destruction. What could she possibly tell her that might affect us? Worse, I can't seem to get a grip on things between us, and now I don't know if Gaita is about to plant a seed of discord. Frustrated, I rake my fingers through my hair, staring at the old journal on my desk. The pages blur together, and no matter how many times I read them, everything seems to repeat itself. "You've been ignoring the journal about your father, haven't you?" Kaidos speaks up, his voice unusually calm. He's never this calm, and it puts me on edge. "What difference does it make, Kaidos?" I snap, gripping the book tighter. "He left me when I needed him the most, and you know how much that hurt me." "You're still hurting," he says, unbothered by my outburst. "That's understandable. But what if there's something you're not expecting in there?" I don't answer him. My mind is too consumed with the chaos

Alethea "I'll have to take you back to the pack," Liam says firmly. I raise my hand to my chin, pretending to think over his condition, but in reality, my mind is elsewhere. I had planned to go into town today before making this trip to Gaita's home. Now? Everything has changed. Gaita steps into view, her gaze locking with mine. She walks toward me, holding out a small vial filled with a shimmering liquid. "This will help with your weakness," she says, pressing it into my palm. "But it's only temporary. You need to get your mate to mark you, Alethea. You can't avoid it forever." I swallow hard, as I shove the vial into my purse. As if that's even an option. For once, I wish I could believe Asher would mark me. That he'd see me as his and claim me the way a mate should. But I know better. He isn't ready, and I can't bring myself to ask him why. I glance at Liam. He's watching me with an unreadable expression, his jaw tight, his blue eyes dark with something I can't quite place.
