“I reject you, fatass.” The Alpha Prince’s words shattered my world. Laughter erupted around me as my mate bond broke in front of the entire pack. I had spent my entire life being mocked for my size, always standing in the shadow of my slim, beautiful sister. But I never imagined that the Moon Goddess would make the Alpha Prince my fated mate—only for him to reject me as if I were nothing. He was everything an Alpha should be. Handsome. Powerful. Untouchable. And I was the plus-size she-wolf he was ashamed to be seen with. I thought his rejection was the worst thing that could happen to me. I was wrong. After the prince rejected me, the humiliation only grew worse. Until a young Alpha transferred into our pack. Unlike everyone else, he saw past my appearance. He saw my strength. My intelligence. My hidden potentials. And when he offered me a place in his pack, I finally made a decision. I would leave the people who had spent years making me feel worthless. I packed my belongings and prepared to walk away from the only home I'd ever known. Then, the Alpha Prince appeared unexpectedly. His hand closed around my wrist. His eyes burned with something I had never seen in them before. Possessiveness. “My mate isn't going anywhere.” The same man who had called me "undesirable" and "disgusting" was suddenly refusing to let me go. But this time, I'm the one who gets to decide whether he's still worthy of me...

CHAPTER 1

The moonlight filtering through the high archways of the Bloodmoon Grand Hall did nothing to warm the room. It was the night of the Harvest Gala, the most important celebration on the pack calendar, and while three hundred wolves drank fermented honey-wine and danced, I sat in the corner shadow behind a mahogany table covered in leather-bound ledgers.

My fingers were stained with black ink. While my sister, Selene, spun across the marble floor in a silk dress that clung to her slim waist, I was balancing the pack’s winter grain provisions, border patrol rotations, and iron trade routes.

I didn't mind the work. I was good at it. In fact, I was the only reason the Bloodmoon Pack hadn't gone bankrupt three winters ago. But in a pack that worshipped physical perfection, a plus-size she-wolf with ink on her knuckles was invisible. Or worse—a punchline.

"Working hard, fatass?"

The slurred voice cut through the ambient music, heavy with cheap alcohol and unearned authority.

I looked up slowly. Prince Cassian Vance stood over my table, clutching a silver goblet. He was the Alpha King’s heir. Dashing, built like a fortress, and utterly useless without his father's title. Beside him stood Selene, her hand draped casually over his arm, her dark eyes glittering with malicious glee.

"I’m finalizing the troop allocations for the northern ridge, Prince Cassian," I said quietly, keeping my voice steady and measured. "Your father requested them before midnight."

"My father isn't here yet," Cassian sneered, leaning heavily against the edge of my desk. His silver eyes were bloodshot. "And I'm sick of looking at you ruining the view. Look at my mate over here." He squeezed Selene's waist, and she giggled, pressing her face into his neck. "She looks like a Luna. You look like a butcher's daughter."

A few nearby guards chuckled. The quiet hum of conversation around our corner died down as people turned to watch the show. My stomach twisted into a cold, heavy knot, but I held my breath and kept my hands flat on the open ledger.

"Selene is beautiful," I replied softly. "But she didn't draft the supply lines keeping those guards fed."

Selene’s smile flickered, turning sharp. "Cassian, darling," she cooed, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. "She’s being rude to you again. Tell her what you told me outside."

Cassian’s chest puffed out. The arrogance of the alcohol took total control of him. He stepped forward, lifted his goblet, and casually tipped it over my desk. Red wine soaked straight into the thick paper, instantly blurring weeks of meticulous troop numbers and supply calculations into a crimson ruin.

Laughter erupted from the surrounding crowd.

"Oops," Cassian slurred, tossing the empty goblet onto the floor. It clattered loudly against the stone. "Guess you'll have to start over. But you won't be doing it as part of my royal court."

He took a sharp step closer, his Alpha pressure flaring in the air like a sudden drop in room temperature. The air grew thick, suffocating my lungs.

"I, Prince Cassian Vance, future Alpha King of the Bloodmoon Pack, reject you, Clara Sterling, as my mate," he growled.

The words struck like an iron blade plunging straight into my sternum.

A white-hot sensation tore through my veins as the invisible, ancient thread tying my soul to his violently snapped. The mate bond, the divine gift promised by the Moon Goddess, shattered into a thousand jagged pieces. The physical impact was so intense that my knees buckled, hard wood digging into my shins as I slammed down against the floor.

Laughter washed over me in a deafening wave.

Selene smirked down at me, wrapping her arms tighter around Cassian’s waist. Cassian just snorted, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, utterly indifferent to the agony tearing through my ribs. He treated the divine will of the goddess like a discarded piece of trash.

I lay on my hands and knees, staring at the pool of spilled wine soaked into my ruined work. My heart screamed to cry, to curl up in the dark and hide from the mocking faces surrounding me.

'He thought he broke my heart,' I realized, as the burning pain in my chest slowly cooled into a hard, freezing stillness. 'He only broke my silence'

"Is this how the Bloodmoon Pack treats its master strategist?"

The voice was not slurred. It was not loud. But it possessed an immense, crushing weight that instantly killed the laughter in the hall.

The crowd parted like wheat before a storm. Heavy, deliberate footsteps echoed across the marble floor as a man approached the alcove.

He was massive, standing well over six-foot-four, with broad shoulders that filled an obsidian coat trimmed with white fur. A jagged battle scar ran down his left cheekbone, emphasizing a razor-sharp jawline and eyes as dark and cold as frozen steel.

It was Alpha Julian Thorne. The Supreme Commander of the Frost-Ridge Pack. A man feared across three territories, known for his ruthless military precision and absolute refusal to bow to imperial politics.

Cassian straightened up instantly, his arrogant posture faltering under Julian’s piercing gaze. "Alpha Julian," Cassian stuttered, trying to reclaim his dominance. "This is an internal pack matter. The girl was stepped on, that's all."

Julian didn't even look at Cassian.

His silver-grey eyes swept over the wet ledgers, over the bruised skin of my knees, and finally locked onto my face. There was no pity in his gaze. No disgust. Only an intense, calculating focus that made my pulse jump in a completely different way.

Julian walked directly past Cassian, completely ignoring the prince's presence. He bent down in front of me, his shadow enveloping my smaller frame.

He didn't grab me. Instead, he reached out his gloved hand and gently lifted a single, unruined sheet of parchment from the edge of the desk—a complex, hand-drawn tactical map of the northern mountain passes I had spent months refining.

He scanned the map in two seconds, his dark eyes sharpening.

"A man who throws away his sharpest blade deserves to lose the war," Julian said, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that vibrated straight through the floorboards.

He reached down and extended his bare hand toward me. His large, calloused palm was waiting.

"Get up, Clara."

When I placed my hand in his, a sudden, searing spark of raw electricity surged through my skin—a physical spark far hotter and deeper than anything I had ever felt with Cassian. My breath hitched. Julian’s fingers closed around mine with firm, unyielding strength, pulling me effortlessly to my feet.

Cassian snapped, his face flushing crimson with humiliation. "Drop her hand, Thorne! She’s Bloodmoon property! She's nothing!"

Julian turned his head slightly, looking back over his shoulder at the prince. The sheer power radiating off the Frost-Ridge Alpha made the guards step back in pure instinct.

"She was your property," Julian growled, his thumb trailing over my pulse point on my wrist, making my blood sing. "Now, she is standing next to me."

He leaned down slightly, his lips brushing the shell of my ear so closely I could feel the heat of his breath against my freezing skin.

"Tell me you're ready to leave this cage, little strategist," Julian whispered, his dark eyes burning into mine, "and I'll clear your path tonight."
