[Elise’s POV]

A gasp escapes me as my eyes fly open and I sit up. My breath comes in puffs, and my heart hammers while the memories of what I just saw hit me.

“What was that?” I whisper, trying to make sense of what I just saw. “It felt so…”

Real. It felt so real, like I was actually there witnessing what was happening.

“But why?” I murmur, my mind whirling. “Why would I dream of such a thing?”

Was it really a dream?” The small voice in the back of my head says as I try to decipher why I felt so uneasy from something that wasn’t even real.

“Maybe I’m going crazy.”

That was the only plausible explanation, right? I was going crazy from everything that was happening. Even if I didn’t know exactly what was going on around me, I could feel the tension and the fear of those around me. It was like they were walking on eggshells waiting for something to go down, but when I would ask my attendant, they wouldn’t tell me. Instead, they would tell me to not worry and work on recovering from what?

  • The Alpha Princess' Bodyguard.   Join The Pack

[Elise’s POV]I stare at Jose, wondering what exactly it was that he was trying to say. It was like a foreign language to me.Mindlink? What was that?“Let me explain.” He says when I give him a questioning look. “Mindlink is how wolves communicate with one another from long distances.”Frowning, I try to process what he’s telling me. Of course, it sounds absolutely ridiculous, but given the circumstances, I was willing to believe that there actually was such a thing. But how did you go about doing it? What was the trick?“Okay,” I say slowly, deciding that it was better to just be told than try to make sense of it. “And how exactly will we be able to do it?”For a moment, he doesn’t speak. Instead, he exchanges a glance with Denali and Maverick, who watch on silently.“She already has a pack.” Denali says quietly, giving me a look. “Even if they abandoned her.”“Then she doesn’t need that pack.” Maverick huffs. “I say that she has full reason to swear her loyalty to Jose in this situ

  • The Alpha Princess' Bodyguard.   Our Part

[Maverick’s POV]Pain shoots through me as smoke threatens to suffocate me. There’s fire all around me and debris from the explosion that took place. A beam lies across me, holding me in place as I fight to break free. And as I search the area, I don’t see anybody who is capable of helping.Shit. I think, drawing on all the strength I have. What the hell even happened?Last I remembered I was fighting two of Ezekial’s wolves, and then there was a loud boom and then blackness. From what I could see, I was certain that a bomb had been planted and it went off during the fighting. But why?Wasn’t the one who set it off aware that their own was still in the building? Did that mean that they didn’t give a shit who was taken out by it?Or…Panic begins to flare up in me as I continue to fight the beam on top of me, struggling with all my might to budge even an inch, and once I do that, I wriggle some more.“Get off me.” I hiss, clawing at the floor for leverage. “Get the hell off of me.”Wit

  • The Alpha Princess' Bodyguard.   Multiple Steps Ahead

[Denali’s POV]Pain shoots through me, threatening to make me collapse. With it is the coppery taste of blood in my mouth and an intense ringing in my ears, but even then, I still hold on.I can’t collapse yet. I think, keeping my gaze fixed on the boy holding Serenity. I can’t give in, not yet.“Drop her,” I repeat, letting more of my power explode from me. “NOW!”For a moment, the boy hesitates, and I know that he is fighting my command with all that he has, but when he finally drops Serenity and turns on Ellie, I know that he isn’t able to do so.“Mom!” Serenity gasps, scrambling up. “You can’t…”She doesn’t finish her words as her eyes widen, and then her hands come up to her throat like she is trying to remove something.“Cute trick.” Ellie giggles as Forrest collapses against the ground. “But, it won’t work here.”“Mom,” Serenity whispers, her face turning red. “You’ve got to go.”“Not without you,” I tell her. “Even if I die here, I will save you.”“How cute,” Ellie laughs. “I

  • The Alpha Princess' Bodyguard.   Face-Off

[Serenity’s POV]I stare at the woman in front of me, taking in her face that looks so much like Aunt Elise’s. It’s disgusting that she would use that face to draw pity from Uncle Jose and Uncle William only to turn around and betray their trust like this.My anger begins to bubble as my claws and canines extend, and I can feel Mahogany beginning to grow excited over the ending of this long war that we have been trapped in.“Such a brave little thing.” Ellie coos, lifting her hands so I can see balls of power appearing in them. “But do you really think a wolf is any match for me?”We’ll find out, I think, keeping my gaze fixed ahead, watching and waiting for her to make a move, and when she does, I’m more than ready to counter it.I jump out of the way, avoiding the power she throws at me, and then move in for my own attack, but before I can get close, power explodes from her, threatening to throw me off balance.Straightening up, I move, avoiding another attack all the while staying

  • The Alpha Princess' Bodyguard.   We Can't Stay Here

[Serenity’s POV]I remain beside Aunt Elise as Maverick moves out into the hall and begins to engage in battle with whoever is there. Everything in me is screaming to go out there and help him, but I know right now the most important thing is getting Aunt Elise somewhere safe.As she was, she wouldn’t be able to do anything.‘We need to get her wolf back like we did Maverick.’ Mahogany murmurs.‘I agree.’ I sigh and turn my gaze to the scared and confused girl beside me. ‘But will it awaken Elaenor’s wolf or Aunt Elise’s?’Aunt Elise’s situation was special given the fact her original body died and she was reborn into a different body. As far as we knew, there were two souls residing in Eleanor’s body, which meant that there were two wolves too.“Dammit.” I growl, causing Aunt Elise’s large eyes to come to rest on me.“What’s wrong?”“Nothing.” I respond, not wanting to concern her with my useless musings. “I was just thinking that we needed to get up and get moving.”“But there’s dan

  • The Alpha Princess' Bodyguard.   A Late Night Attack

[Serenity’s POV]I stare at Aunt Elise while trying to make sense of what exactly is happening. How could it be that this whole time we had a traitor amongst us and no one seemed to realize it? Were we just that blind and easily fooled, or was the traitor that great of an actor?“What’s happened?” Maverick asks, breaking the silence that has fallen around us. “Why do you look so pale?”“We need to move.” I hiss, jumping up. “We need to warn Uncle Jose.”“Let me,” Aunt Elise tries, but stops as I give her a look.“You were barely able to stand properly just moments ago.” I tell her, gently smiling. “For now, the thing you need to worry about is recovering. Maverick,” I continue, turning my gaze to the man who is watching me. “I need you to stay here and keep an eye on Aunt Elise.”“Where are you going?”His voice is stern, and I’m certain that no matter what I say in this situation, he is going to try to fight me.“I need to speak with Uncle Jose.”It’s the truth, but it isn’t the whol
