Chapter Forty
Life became extremely hectic over the next month and it felt like there was no time to stop and take a breather. We hadn’t seen the black wolves at all for a month and it left us extremely nervous. Why the near-constant attacks and then just stop all of a sudden? It didn’t make sense. Turns out, they were back to attacking other packs, only this time, it was resulting in the deaths of a few wolves from each pack. It wasn’t just attacks in this region either, it now became attacks all over North America.
Did this mean their numbers were larger than we had originally assumed? Were there multiple factions of these black wolves? A lot of things were still left unanswered, but thankfully we did manage to get some of our questions answered. With all of the contacts we had, we were able to get a pretty extensive and knowledgeable network of shared information. Kane had reached out to the packs he was allied with

“Shall we go in Darling? I can smell dinner from here.” Magnus said as he tilted his head up into the air and scented before turning back to look at me, his indigo eyes bright and pulling my focus.I nipped some scales at his neck before scenting the air and inhaling the scent of hearty pot roast, savoury potatoes and vegetables. The next morning I woke to feather-light kisses along my bare shoulders and the feeling of fingertips being dragged slowly and delicately along my back. I lifted my hand and ran it through his hair before cupping his face and rubbing my thumb over his soft bottom lip. After they were gone, I took a shower and then decided to relax in a nice warm bubble bath. I was wrapped in a towel, fresh from the shower and filling the tub up with water and adding in a few bath bombs when I felt him come into the room. I woke a few hours later to see the sun streaming through the windows brightly and a glance at the clock showed that it was well into the afternoon. I opened my eyes and looked around in confusion, turning in a small slow circle to take in the sight around me. This was no forest I was familiar with.
