Chapter Thirty-Eight
The atmosphere was tense, every single person on edge as the black wolves stalked along the outskirts of the gathering, snarling and nipping at anyone who tried to make a run for it. There were gasps and cries of kids as their parents held them close and tried to soothe them, the air thick with the miasma and the undeniable stench of fear. I kept my gaze on the Alpha and stood ready for an attack, his bright wolf eyes in hues of amber scanned the crowd before landing on me surrounded by my men.

Life became extremely hectic over the next month and it felt like there was no time to stop and take a breather. We hadn’t seen the black wolves at all for a month and it left us extremely nervous. Why the near-constant attacks and then just stop all of a sudden? It didn’t make sense. After they were gone, I took a shower and then decided to relax in a nice warm bubble bath. I was wrapped in a towel, fresh from the shower and filling the tub up with water and adding in a few bath bombs when I felt him come into the room.
