Alpha Lucien's POVSomething was wrong.I had performed the expulsion ritual before. Not often … it was not something any Alpha used lightly, but I had done it. I knew what it was supposed to look like. The pain was real, the severing was real, but a person without an inner wolf should not be reacting this way. Should not be bleeding like this. The ritual was designed to strip pack bonds, not to tear through a body from the inside. Whatever was happening to Lara was beyond what the ritual alone could account for. Something about her condition was making it amplify in a way I had not anticipated and could not fully explain.The ritual should not be hitting her this hard. Lucien's voice came out low and tight, each word bitten off carefully, his jaw working around them like the sentence was costing him something he hadn't expected to spend. Almost in gritted teeth.
