Chapter 9:

The forest had gone silent.

Elena stood beneath the ancient trees, one hand resting protectively over her pregnant belly. The silver mark on her wrist glowed faintly, responding to the strange energy pulsing through the ground.

Across from her, Lady Seraphine watched with an expression that revealed nothing.

“You should have remained in the human village,” Seraphine said. “You were never meant to discover what you are.”

Elena lifted her chin. “Then tell me the truth. Who am I?”

Seraphine’s gaze dropped to Elena’s stomach.

“You carry more than an Alpha’s child. Your baby carries the blood of the Moon Keepers, an ancient line that existed before the first werewolf pack was formed.”

Elena's fingers curled.

“And what does that have to do with you?”

“Everything.” Seraphine stepped closer. “The child could unite the packs—or destroy the power that has kept them under control for centuries. The council will never allow a child like yours to be born without their permission.”

A cold shiver passed through Elena.

“They want my baby?”

“They want what your baby can become.”

Before Elena could answer, a howl echoed through the trees.

Then another.

Seraphine turned sharply toward the darkness.

“They have arrived earlier than I expected.”

Several wolves emerged between the trees, their eyes shining in the moonlight. At their head stood Darius, the council's ruthless enforcer. Behind him came armed warriors carrying silver-tipped spears.

“Step away from the girl,” Darius commanded.

Seraphine did not move. “You have no authority here.”

“The council has declared Elena and her unborn child a threat to every pack. They are to be taken into custody.”

Elena felt her baby move.

“No,” she whispered.

Darius's expression hardened. “You don't understand what you're carrying.”

“I understand that you're threatening my child.”

“And I understand that if the prophecy is fulfilled, every Alpha will lose the power to command their pack.”

“So that's what this is about?” Elena demanded. “You're afraid of a baby?”

A few warriors exchanged uncomfortable glances.

Darius's jaw tightened.

“Take her.”

The warriors rushed forward.

Before they could reach Elena, a powerful howl shook the forest.

The ground trembled.

A massive black wolf burst through the trees and struck the first warrior aside. Another wolf followed, then several more. The council's soldiers scattered as the newcomers formed a protective circle around Elena.

The black wolf shifted.

Adrian stood before her, breathing heavily, his clothes torn and his eyes burning gold.

“Elena,” he said.

She stared at him in disbelief.

“You followed me?”

“I should never have let you face this alone.”

“You had your chance to stand beside me.” Her voice trembled, but she did not look away. “You rejected me when I needed you most.”

Adrian lowered his eyes.

“I know.”

“Then why are you here now?”

“Because I finally understand what my fear has cost you. And because I won't allow the council to take you or our child.”

Darius laughed coldly.

“How noble, Alpha. But your pack has already turned against you. Your elders have withdrawn their support, and your authority is finished.”

Adrian looked at him without flinching.

“Then I'll face them without it.”

“You would surrender your position for a rejected mate?”

Adrian glanced at Elena.

“She was never merely my mate. I was the one too blind to recognize her worth.”

For one brief moment, Elena felt the old bond stir between them.

But the bond could not erase what he had done.

“Don't mistake protecting me for earning my forgiveness,” she told him.

“I won't,” Adrian replied quietly. “You owe me nothing.”

Darius raised his hand.

“Enough. Seize them both!”

The warriors charged.

Adrian shifted again, his black wolf meeting the council's soldiers head-on. Seraphine raised both hands, and silver light spread across the ground, forming a barrier between Elena and the fighting.

“Come with me,” Seraphine urged. “There is a sanctuary beyond the ridge. The council cannot enter it.”

Elena hesitated.

“Why are you helping me?”

For the first time, Seraphine's composure faltered.

“Because years ago, I helped the council destroy the last Moon Keeper family. I told myself it was necessary to preserve peace. I have spent my life regretting it.”

Elena searched her face.

“And now you want to save me to make yourself feel better?”

“No.” Seraphine's voice broke. “I want to save you because you deserve the chance I took from your family.”

A crash sounded behind them.

Adrian was thrown against a tree. He struggled to rise as Darius approached with a silver blade.

“Adrian!” Elena screamed.

Something inside her awakened.

The silver mark on her wrist blazed white.

A wave of power swept through the forest, throwing the warriors backward. The silver weapons shattered, and every wolf in the clearing dropped to its knees.

Even Darius stumbled.

Elena stood motionless, staring at her glowing hand.

The power had come from her.

No—something older than her had answered.

A voice seemed to rise from the earth itself.

The Moon Keeper has awakened.

The light spread from Elena's wrist across her arms, illuminating the forest. The warriors bowed their heads. Adrian stared at her, astonishment and fear warring in his expression.

Darius fell to one knee.

“This is impossible.”

Elena took one step toward him.

“You came here to take my child because you feared what the child might become. But you never once asked what I wanted.”

Darius tried to stand.

The light intensified, forcing him back to the ground.

“You will not touch my baby,” Elena declared. “And you will not use fear to rule the packs anymore.”

The power faded as suddenly as it had appeared.

Elena swayed.

Adrian rushed toward her, catching her before she fell.

“Are you hurt?” he asked urgently.

“My baby…” She pressed a hand against her stomach.

A moment passed.

Then she felt a gentle movement beneath her palm.

Her eyes filled with tears of relief.

“The baby is moving.”

Adrian closed his eyes briefly, overcome with emotion.

“Thank the Moon.”

Elena stepped out of his arms.

“Don't thank the Moon for something you should have protected from the beginning.”

He accepted her words without protest.

Darius rose slowly, hatred burning in his eyes.

“This changes nothing. The council will never accept you.”

“Then the council will have to change,” Elena answered.

She turned toward the gathered wolves.

“I will not be your weapon. I will not be your queen because of a prophecy. And I will not allow anyone to decide my child's future.”

No one spoke.

For the first time, the wolves were not looking at her as Adrian's rejected mate.

They were looking at her as someone who could challenge the laws that had governed them for generations.

Seraphine approached Elena cautiously.

“There is one thing you must know,” she said. “The awakening has revealed your power, but it has also revealed your location to every Alpha who fears the Moon Keepers' return.”

Elena's heart sank.

“How many?”

“All of them.”

Far beyond the forest, howls began to rise from distant territories.

One pack answered another.

Then another.

The sound rolled across the mountains like thunder.

Adrian moved beside Elena, but he did not touch her.

“The council will come for you,” he said. “And this time, they will bring their armies.”

Elena looked toward the distant mountains.

She had spent so long trying to survive the consequences of Adrian's rejection that she had never imagined becoming the person every pack feared.

But she would not run forever.

She would protect her child. She would uncover the truth about the Moon Keepers. And she would decide for herself what kind of future the wolves deserved.

As the moon rose above the trees, Elena's silver mark glowed once more.

Somewhere in the darkness, a voice whispered through the wind.

The child must never be born beneath a blood moon.

Elena turned toward Seraphine.

“What does that mean?”

Seraphine's face drained of color.

“It means,” she whispered, “that we have less time than I feared.”

And high above them, the moon began to turn red.

CHAPTER EIGHT The silver eyes moved closer. Every warrior in the chamber lowered his head. Even Adrian, the Alpha of Silver Moon, stepped backward. Elena had never seen him afraid. "What is that?" she whispered. "A guardian," Gareth answered, his face pale. A massive white wolf descended the staircase, its silver markings glowing beneath its snow-white fur. Its ancient eyes settled on Elena before the creature slowly knelt before her. Gasps filled the chamber. The wolf spoke directly into her mind. Daughter of the Moon Keeper, I have waited years for your return. Elena's hands trembled. "Who are you?" I am Orion, guardian of your mother's bloodline. She entrusted me with protecting this shrine until her heir returned. "My mother?" Elena's heart ached. "What happened to her?" I will reveal the truth, but first, you must understand the danger surrounding your child. Elena instinctively covered her stomach. "Why does everyone want my baby?" Orion turned toward Adrian. Yo

  • The Alpha Rejected His Pregnant Mate   THE SCENT OF BETRAYAL

CHAPTER SIX The Scent of Betrayal The forest swallowed Elena whole. Branches scratched her arms as she pushed through the undergrowth, her breath coming in short, painful bursts. Behind her, the distant howls of the Silver Moon pack faded until all she could hear was the rustling of leaves and the pounding of her own heart. She did not know where she was going. She only knew she could not return. Not to the pack that had watched her humiliation without lifting a finger. Not to the man who had rejected her before everyone, as though the love they had once shared meant nothing. And certainly not to Adrian. Her hand drifted to her stomach. "Don't worry, little one," she whispered. "Mama will protect you." The words sounded brave, but fear gnawed at her insides. She had no food, no shelter, and no idea how far she had wandered. The afternoon sun was already disappearing behind the towering trees, casting long shadows across the forest floor. A sharp pain twisted through her lo

  • The Alpha Rejected His Pregnant Mate   THE SECRET GROWING INSIDE ME

Chapter Five Elena’s POV The kiss beneath the old oak tree changed something between Adrian and me. After that night, I could no longer pretend my feelings were harmless. I had fallen for the Alpha of Silver Moon Pack, a man who stood above everyone else, while I was the wolfless girl most people barely noticed. Yet, whenever Adrian looked at me, I sometimes forgot the difference between us. For a while, I allowed myself to be happy. Then came the night everything changed. Adrian invited me to his private room. Rain tapped against the windows, filling the silence between us as I stood before him, nervous and uncertain. “Are you afraid of me, Elena?” he asked. I shook my head. “No.” “Then why are you looking at me as if you want to run away?” I told him I was afraid that one day he would wake up and remember that I was wolfless. He told me he didn't want to lose what we had found. When he kissed me, I kissed him back. That night, we chose to be together. It was a privat
