CHAPTER SEVEN

Elena barely slept that night.

Every time she closed her eyes, she heard the strange voice whispering inside her mind.

Wake up, daughter of the Moon.

She had tried convincing herself that exhaustion had caused the experience, but the silver mark on her wrist made denial impossible. It glowed faintly whenever she thought about the voice, then faded when she tried to ignore it.

Something was happening to her.

Something she could neither understand nor control.

Outside the cabin, the howling continued until shortly before dawn. Gareth had remained awake for most of the night, watching the forest through a narrow window.

When Elena finally rose from her chair, she found him preparing a small leather bag.

"Are they still out there?" she asked.

Gareth nodded.

"They haven't left."

"Who are they? Why are they looking for me?"

He tightened the straps on the bag.

"Because someone has discovered that the Moon Keeper bloodline has returned."

Elena frowned.

"You keep talking about this bloodline as if everyone should know about it. I've never heard of Moon Keepers before yesterday."

"That is precisely why you must be careful."

Gareth turned to face her.

"Many years ago, the Moon Keepers were guardians of an ancient power. They could sense lies hidden beneath spoken words, recognise bonds that others could not see, and awaken dormant abilities in werewolves who had lost their connection to their wolves."

Elena stared at him.

"Are you saying they could help someone who couldn't shift?"

"Yes."

The answer struck her harder than she expected.

For years, she had watched other young werewolves transform effortlessly. She remembered the embarrassment of standing alone during the pack's first-shift ceremony while everyone else celebrated.

She remembered Adrian holding her hand afterward.

It doesn't matter whether you can shift, Elena. You're still mine.

Those words had once comforted her.

Now they felt like another cruel joke.

"Then why didn't my mother tell me?" she asked.

"Perhaps she wanted to protect you. Perhaps she was waiting for the right time."

Gareth hesitated.

"Or perhaps she knew that revealing the truth would put your life in danger."

Elena swallowed.

"And my baby?"

His expression softened.

"Your child may carry a gift even greater than yours. That is why we cannot afford to waste time."

He handed her a dark cloak.

"Put this on. We'll leave through the back of the cabin."

Elena followed him outside.

The morning air was cold, and a thin mist covered the forest floor. Birds called from the treetops, but beneath their songs, Elena sensed something unsettling.

The forest was watching her.

She could feel it.

Every time she stepped forward, the silver mark on her wrist warmed.

"How far is the shrine?" she asked.

"About two hours on foot."

Elena looked down at her swollen feet.

Gareth noticed her hesitation.

"We'll walk slowly. If you feel unwell, tell me immediately."

She nodded gratefully.

They set off along a narrow path that wound between enormous trees.

For the first hour, Gareth spoke very little. He seemed to recognise every turn, every fallen branch, and every stone along the way.

Eventually, Elena could no longer contain her questions.

"Did you know my mother personally?"

"Yes."

"What was she like?"

A small smile crossed his face.

"Brave. Stubborn. Kind to those who deserved kindness, and merciless toward anyone who threatened her family."

Elena almost smiled.

"That sounds nothing like the mother I remember."

"Memories fade, child. Blood does not."

He stopped beside a stream.

"Your mother came to me when you were still very young. She was being hunted by people who wanted to use her abilities."

"Who wanted to use her?"

Gareth's jaw tightened.

"The former council of Alphas. They believed the Moon Keepers possessed the power to challenge their authority."

Elena felt a chill run through her.

"Does Adrian know about them?"

"Adrian?"

"The Alpha of Silver Moon. Adrian is my former mate."

Gareth studied her carefully.

"Does he know about your pregnancy?"

"Yes."

"And what did he do?"

Elena looked away.

"He rejected me."

The words came out quietly, but they carried the weight of everything she had endured.

Gareth's expression hardened.

"Then he has made a grave mistake."

Elena shook her head.

"I don't want revenge. I just want to protect my baby and find somewhere I can live peacefully."

"Peace is worth fighting for, Elena. But sometimes the truth must be uncovered before peace becomes possible."

They continued walking.

Not long afterward, the trees began to thin.

Ahead stood a circular clearing surrounded by enormous stones covered in strange carvings. At its centre was an ancient shrine, half buried beneath vines and moss.

The moment Elena stepped into the clearing, the mark on her wrist blazed silver.

She gasped.

The stones began to vibrate.

Gareth immediately stepped back.

"It's responding to you."

Elena could barely hear him.

A strange warmth spread through her chest. Her breathing slowed, and the world around her seemed to sharpen.

She could hear water moving beneath the earth.

She could hear the beating hearts of small animals hiding among the roots.

And somewhere far beyond the clearing, she heard the desperate cry of a wolf.

Not an ordinary wolf.

A wolf that sounded as though it had been imprisoned for years.

Elena pressed her hands against her ears.

"Make it stop!"

Gareth hurried toward her.

"Look at me, Elena. Concentrate on your breathing."

She tried.

Slowly, the sounds faded.

When she opened her eyes, the shrine's entrance was glowing.

A narrow staircase descended beneath the stones.

Gareth stared at it in disbelief.

"I have guarded this place for thirty years," he whispered. "It has never opened for anyone."

Elena looked at the staircase.

"Then what am I supposed to do?"

"Go inside."

She hesitated.

"What if something happens to my baby?"

Gareth placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

"Nothing is more important than your safety. If you feel pain or weakness, we leave immediately."

Elena nodded and descended carefully.

The air beneath the shrine was cool and smelled of earth and ancient stone. Symbols covered the walls, each one shining faintly as she passed.

At the bottom stood a chamber with a circular pool in its centre.

Above the water hung a crystal shaped like a crescent moon.

Elena approached slowly.

The moment she stood beside the pool, an image appeared on its surface.

A woman.

She had long silver hair and eyes that looked exactly like Elena's.

Elena stopped breathing.

"Mother?"

The image smiled sadly.

"My beautiful daughter."

Elena's knees nearly gave way.

She had spent years trying to remember her mother's face. Now the woman stood before her, looking as though no time had passed at all.

"Is this real?" Elena whispered.

Gareth remained near the entrance.

"The shrine preserves memories. Listen to what she has to say."

The image of Elena's mother lifted her hand.

"If you are seeing this, my child, then the mark has awakened. I prayed that you would never need to discover this place."

Tears slipped down Elena's cheeks.

"Why did you leave me?"

The image flickered.

"I did not leave you willingly."

Elena covered her mouth.

Her mother continued.

"Before you were born, I discovered that a member of the Alpha council intended to destroy the Moon Keeper bloodline. I knew that if they found you, they would use you to gain control over every pack in the region."

The crystal pulsed.

"So I hid your identity. I sealed your abilities and trusted those who promised to protect you."

Elena's heart raced.

"Who were they?"

Her mother's expression became grave.

"One of them was the man who raised you. The other was a member of the Silver Moon pack."

Elena froze.

"Someone from Adrian's pack?"

"Yes. But remember this, Elena: not everyone who claims to serve an Alpha is loyal to him."

The image began to fade.

"Your child carries a powerful inheritance. Protect your baby from those who seek to control that power. And never allow anyone to convince you that your worth depends on whether a man chooses you."

Elena broke down.

Those were the words she had needed to hear since the day Adrian rejected her.

Her mother had never known the details of her daughter's heartbreak, yet somehow, her message reached straight into it.

"Please, don't go!" Elena cried.

The image shimmered one final time.

"There is one more truth you must discover. The man who rejected you is not the only person whose fate is bound to your child."

The pool went dark.

Elena stood motionless.

Then the crystal above the water cracked.

A flash of silver light filled the chamber.

Gareth shouted for her to move, but she could not.

The light surrounded her, flowing over her skin like warm water. She felt something stir deep within her chest.

A low growl echoed through the chamber.

Elena gasped.

It had come from inside her.

Her wolf.

For the first time in her life, she could feel it.

A powerful presence stretched within her mind, no longer distant or silent.

Elena.

She trembled.

I've been waiting for you.

"Who are you?" Elena whispered.

I am your wolf. I have always been here.

A wave of emotion swept through her.

"You were never gone?"

No. Your power was sealed. Now the seal is breaking.

Elena looked down at her hands.

Silver light danced beneath her skin.

For years, she had believed herself weak.

For years, others had treated her as though she were incomplete.

But she had never been broken.

She had been hidden.

Suddenly, the shrine shook violently.

Gareth rushed toward her.

"We have to leave!"

"What happened?"

"Someone has crossed the boundary!"

A loud crash echoed from above.

Then came a voice.

"Elena!"

She recognised it immediately.

Adrian.

Her former mate had found her.

But he was not alone.

Through the opening above the staircase, Elena saw several armed warriors descending into the shrine.

Adrian stood at their head, his expression fierce and his clothes covered in dirt.

When his eyes met Elena's, he stopped.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then his gaze fell to the glowing mark on her wrist.

His face went pale.

"Where did you get that?"

Elena instinctively moved a hand over her stomach.

"Why are you here, Adrian?"

He took one step toward her.

"You need to come with me. You're in danger."

She laughed bitterly.

"In danger? You rejected me and left me to face the world alone. Why should I believe you now?"

His jaw tightened.

"Because the people hunting you aren't ordinary rogues."

Gareth stepped between them.

"Stay where you are, Alpha."

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

"Who are you?"

"Someone who knows what your council has been hiding."

A tense silence filled the chamber.

Then one of Adrian's warriors moved forward.

"Alpha, we should leave. The council ordered us to bring the girl back immediately."

Elena turned toward him.

"The council?"

The warrior's expression changed.

Adrian spun around.

"Be quiet!"

But it was too late.

Elena had heard enough.

Someone in authority had sent Adrian to find her.

Someone knew about the Moon Keeper mark.

And someone wanted her unborn child.

She stepped away from Adrian.

"Tell me the truth. Did you come here to protect me, or did they send you to take my baby?"

Adrian looked at her, his expression torn.

For the first time since she had known him, the powerful Alpha appeared afraid.

Then he spoke five words that changed everything.

"Your baby is not ordinary."

Elena's blood ran cold.

Before she could demand an explanation, a deafening howl erupted from somewhere outside the shrine.

Every warrior in the chamber turned toward the entrance.

Gareth's face drained of colour.

"No," he whispered. "It cannot be."

Elena looked at him.

"What is it?"

He stared at the staircase.

"The first Moon Keeper has returned."

And from the darkness above, a pair of silver eyes opened.

Who am I?”Seraphine’s gaze dropped to Elena’s stomach.“You carry more than an Alpha’s child. Your baby carries the blood of the Moon Keepers, an ancient line that existed before the first werewolf pack was formed.”Elena's fingers curled.“And what does that have to do with you?”“Everything.” Seraphine stepped closer. “The child could unite the packs—or destroy the power that has kept them under control for centuries. The council will never allow a child like yours to be born without their permission.”A co

CHAPTER EIGHT The silver eyes moved closer. Every warrior in the chamber lowered his head. Even Adrian, the Alpha of Silver Moon, stepped backward. Elena had never seen him afraid. "What is that?" she whispered. "A guardian," Gareth answered, his face pale. A massive white wolf descended the staircase, its silver markings glowing beneath its snow-white fur. Its ancient eyes settled on Elena before the creature slowly knelt before her. Gasps filled the chamber. The wolf spoke directly into her mind. Daughter of the Moon Keeper, I have waited years for your return. Elena's hands trembled. "Who are you?" I am Orion, guardian of your mother's bloodline. She entrusted me with protecting this shrine until her heir returned. "My mother?" Elena's heart ached. "What happened to her?" I will reveal the truth, but first, you must understand the danger surrounding your child. Elena instinctively covered her stomach. "Why does everyone want my baby?" Orion turned toward Adrian. Yo

  • The Alpha Rejected His Pregnant Mate   THE SCENT OF BETRAYAL

CHAPTER SIX The Scent of Betrayal The forest swallowed Elena whole. Branches scratched her arms as she pushed through the undergrowth, her breath coming in short, painful bursts. Behind her, the distant howls of the Silver Moon pack faded until all she could hear was the rustling of leaves and the pounding of her own heart. She did not know where she was going. She only knew she could not return. Not to the pack that had watched her humiliation without lifting a finger. Not to the man who had rejected her before everyone, as though the love they had once shared meant nothing. And certainly not to Adrian. Her hand drifted to her stomach. "Don't worry, little one," she whispered. "Mama will protect you." The words sounded brave, but fear gnawed at her insides. She had no food, no shelter, and no idea how far she had wandered. The afternoon sun was already disappearing behind the towering trees, casting long shadows across the forest floor. A sharp pain twisted through her lo

  • The Alpha Rejected His Pregnant Mate   THE SECRET GROWING INSIDE ME

Chapter Five Elena’s POV The kiss beneath the old oak tree changed something between Adrian and me. After that night, I could no longer pretend my feelings were harmless. I had fallen for the Alpha of Silver Moon Pack, a man who stood above everyone else, while I was the wolfless girl most people barely noticed. Yet, whenever Adrian looked at me, I sometimes forgot the difference between us. For a while, I allowed myself to be happy. Then came the night everything changed. Adrian invited me to his private room. Rain tapped against the windows, filling the silence between us as I stood before him, nervous and uncertain. “Are you afraid of me, Elena?” he asked. I shook my head. “No.” “Then why are you looking at me as if you want to run away?” I told him I was afraid that one day he would wake up and remember that I was wolfless. He told me he didn't want to lose what we had found. When he kissed me, I kissed him back. That night, we chose to be together. It was a privat
