Chapter 20

Lucien’s POV

The dungeon was as cold as ever. It was like a bit of winter had been plunged into this place, except there was no snow, just the skin-biting iciness that gave you uncomfortable goosebumps.

It wasn't helping that Gabriel counted every step before he took it. He was being so stubborn about this, but I understood my brother's hot-headedness, I knew he had daydreamed about meeting his fated.

In all honesty, I had not allowed myself to be deluded with such dreams. Being the

Chapter 40Vivian’s POVGabriel’s grip on my chin didn't slacken, but the raw, aggressive energy rolling off him shifted from anger into something thick, heavy, and dangerous. I could feel the erratic thump of his heart against his ribs, a violent rhythm that perfectly matched the tension building in my own chest. The mate bond was a living thing between us right now, pulling at our senses until the rest of the palace seemed to fade into nothing but background noise."I have that effect on people, Prince Gabriel," I whispered, my voice steady despite the heat blooming where his skin met mine. "But you're going to have to control your wolf. We have a long shift ahead of us, and I’d hate for you to ruin your perfect discipline on account of a little werewolf vanity."He let go of my jaw so fast it was almost comical, stepping back two full paces into the shadows of the room. His chiseled features were tight, his hazel eyes flashing with a mix of frustration and raw desire that he was tr

Chapter 39Gabriel’s POVThe air in the room was entirely too thin.My chest heaved as I stared at the two women standing near the vanity. My wolf was clawing at the walls of my mind, his fangs bared, furious that anyone had dared to breach the territory we had explicitly set aside for our mate. When Lucien told me I had the first shift of the rotation, I had spent an hour trying to convince myself that I didn't care. I had told myself she was just a prisoner. But the second my boots cleared the hallway and I saw the door slightly ajar, my instincts had taken over completely.Lady Veronica froze, her hand still hovering in the air where she had tried to grab Vivian. The triumphant look on her face shattered instantly, replaced by a pale, ugly mask of fear."Prince Gabriel," Veronica stammered, quickly pulling her hands into her dark cloak and taking a hasty step back. "I... I was simply conducting a preliminary assessment of the security risks. The Council must ensure that this werewo

Chapter 38Vivian’s POVMy new quarters in the eastern wing were a massive upgrade from the damp stones of the dungeon, but a cage was still a cage, no matter how thick the silk drapes were. The room was spacious, dominated by a large four-poster bed and a heavy mahogany wardrobe. The clinking of my shackles felt entirely out of place against the plush velvet rugs, but I wasn't complaining. I had managed to wiggle my way out of the dark, and more importantly, I had forced the three princes to change their entire strategy regarding my imprisonment. The 24/7 rotation was exactly what I wanted. It kept me close to them, allowing the joint mate bond to slowly erode their defenses day by day.Gabriel hadn't arrived for his shift yet. The sun hadn't quite risen, leaving the room blanketed in a heavy, pre-dawn shadow.I was sitting at the edge of the bed, rubbing the faint red marks my wrists had gathered from the silver chains, when the heavy latch on my door clicked. It wasn't the aggressi

Chapter 37Lucien’s POVThe heavy oak doors of the library clicked shut behind us, cutting off the rest of the silent palace. I didn’t sit down, and neither did she. Viper stood near the center of the room, the faint scent of garden dirt and fresh lavender still clinging to her clothes, completely filling the space between us.My wolf was restless, scratching at the edges of my control. The mate bond was a constant, heavy hum in my chest, a physical pull that demanded I step closer, that I wrap my hands around her slim waist and claim what the fates had decided was mine. But my mind remained clear. I was the oldest. I was the one who had to think about the royal bloodline, the war, and the safety of our people while my brothers let their emotions drift."You look tense, Lucien," Vivian said, her voice breaking the silence. She crossed her arms, her chains rattling softly against her white dress. "More so than usual. Is the weight of the crown getting too heavy, or is it just me?""You

Chapter 36Vivian’s POVJacob was practically vibrating with tension as he shoved the heavy wooden doors of the palace open, his grip on my arm firm but not entirely painful. He was trying to act tough, trying to maintain that hard, cynical prince persona that he wore like a shield, but I could feel the slight tremor in his fingers. My little display with the Moon Whispers had completely rattled him.Good. A rattled prince was a predictable prince, and predictability was exactly what I needed if I was going to survive the next forty-eight hours."Move," he muttered, guiding me down the dimly lit hallway that led toward the grand library. The clinking of my chains felt exceptionally loud in the dead silence of the night, echoing off the high stone arches."You know, Jacob, for someone who just witnessed a botanical miracle, you’re being incredibly grumpy," I said, a playful smile dancing on my lips as I deliberately slowed my pace, forcing him to adjust his long strides to match mine.

Chapter 35Jacob’s POVI couldn’t take my eyes off the small, frail leaves digging out of the dirt. They looked like skeletal fingers reaching up from a shallow grave, dry and losing the battle against time. Moon Whispers. I had seen them once in an old text inside our royal library, back when I actually bothered to read things that didn’t involve war or border maps. They were supposed to be legendary flowers, plants that only bloomed under the direct, unfiltered gaze of a prosperous pack’s high spiritual energy. In our garden, they were just a visual reminder of what we were losing, a slow, bleeding rot that was taking over the land while the Moon Council choked us from the inside out.And yet, this woman, the very bane of our war efforts in a past I was trying so hard to bury, was standing right over them with a look that wasn't malicious at all. It was calculated. Curious."You're staring pretty hard, little prince," Vivian said, not even turning her head to look at me. She remaine
