At a barbecue place in the neutral zone, I kept my head down and ate, while Kieran watched quietly from across the table.

"Slow down. No one's taking it from you," he said, sliding a glass of water over.

I looked up, my mouth full of meat, and mumbled, "How do you have my dad's will?"

Kieran fell silent for a moment. "He came to see me before he passed."
