MasukInstantly, she froze.
Zevran, from where he stood, could see nothing but the shock she had on her face.
“You didn't think I would catch you trying to escape from my pack, did you?” He let
out a scoff as he walked closer.
“Go on. I won't disturb you.
”
Embarrassed, Nyssa stopped trying.
At least, for now.
Beads of sweat filled her face. She had been busy - trying to look for a way all her
life; since she was brought into this pack. And now that she had, this man had still
managed to sabotage her plans.
How did he know?
“I asked you to continue, Emilia.
”
“I can't.
” She snapped.
“I don't even see a way—
” Her frustrated self could not hold
it back.
“Why?” Tears gathered around her eyes. She looked at the space again.
“I
don't want to be here. Let me go.
”
No way she just said that to him.
How dramatic! Zevran thought. He let her live after finding out she's his mate, even
though the plan was to eat her; use her for meat.
“You're such an ungrateful
bastard.
” He moved, heading in her direction.
“You should keep running if you don't
want to be caught.
” There was a tone of mockery.
“Where did you even think that
door would lead you?” The Alpha chuckled as he almost reached her.
“This is where
we dump bad meat. I'm sure you can perceive the odor from a mile away now.
”
Instantly, it dawned on her. This wasn't what she assumed it would be.
“Is it you or this is how Omega wolves reason? What happened to running through
the main gate?” He stood before her now.
“I'm asking you.
”
One glance at him and she trembled.
It had been more than three days since she came here, but this was the first time
she would stand face to face with this man. He was too tall for her, handsome too,
although it was a fact she hated to admit. His eyes seemed evil - like the evil he
actually was. Wasn't he the cause of her misery?
“The guards were there—
”
“The guards were there.
” He mocked her.
“How did you find this door, Emilia?”
“I looked around. Then found it.
”
Oh, he hated her guts. The way she spoke to him like she was his superior. They
weren't age-mates. Age aside, he was way stronger than her, many ranks above
her. Why did she have so much guts?
And why did he even stand here, indulging her?
A sigh escaped Zevran's mouth. He looked around. There were only two of them.
Now that it dawned on him, he realized how agitated his wolf would be if he didn't
find his way out on time.
“Keep trying to escape before I deal with you.
” Zevran
mouthed, ignoring her as he turned around.
“You should be very careful next time.
”
As he walked away, Nyssa wondered what was next. She tried to go further, but
there wasn't a way. The only route that seemed accessible stank. No, she hated
herself and the life she was living, but she could not and would not go down there.
What was she going to do?This and many questions ran around in her head when the door that had shut a
while ago, opened again. That son of a beast, she thought as she turned around,
expecting to see the Alpha.
But the Alpha wasn't in sight.
It was the man she recognized from her first day here. And two others that came
with him.
“What?”
“What?” He mimicked.
“Name is Bastian. Alpha Zevran's Beta, and he has ordered
me to bring you to him.
” He signaled to the men who caught up with Nyssa.
“Take
her to the Alpha's chamber.
”
Without hesitation, they picked her up.
As expected, Nyssa screamed at them, hitting each man on his back as she cussed
at them.
“Let me go! I command it. Let me go, I command you!” She hurled as she hit
their backs, even their faces, but they continued to carry out the Beta's order.
After a long walk back to the royal quarters, she stood in the Alpha's chamber.
He moped at her with a smile - a wicked one.
“Do you know how I knew you were planning to run away from my pack?”
Honestly, she didn't care.
She wanted to let him know - but that would be too much as she didn't know what
to expect from this man.
“I don't know.
” She simply replied.
“You're my mate. Even though I reject our bond, I am fully aware of the things you
do. Unless I don't pay attention, you may be safe from me. But I am a man who pays
attention, do you see how bad that is for you?” Zevran let out a scoff.
“Oh, you cannot speak?” He didn't stop.
“I have nothing to say.
”“That's what I thought, Emilia.
”
“What will you do to me?” She asked him now. Their eyes were locked for seconds.
She waited, he wondered what kind of woman she was.
“You'll find out when the time is right.
”
There was silence in the chamber. While Bastian waited for orders from the Alpha,
the guards waited for orders from Bastian who might pass them down to them. And
the Alpha himself wondered what was right for a woman like Nyssa.
He needed something.
Something that would make her regret her actions. And when he couldn't think of
an answer, he faced Bastian.
“Bastian?”
“Yes, my lord.
”
“What do you propose we do to Emilia?”
Bastian wondered, too. Only for a moment. And when it looked like he had
something, he let out.
“I propose we lock the lady away in the dark room. Or better
still, the dungeon used for treason, my lord. Or we can make her sleep in the
beasts'
”
—
“Thank you, Bastian. I have my answer.
”
“My lord.
” He bowed.
“Which one will it be?”
“The lady will stay in the dark room.
” He glanced at Nyssa.
“I'm sure she'll love it
there. No light for as long as she remains there.
” He could see the horror in her eyes
as she spoke.
“Take her away.
”
“No, you can't do this—
” She spoke.“Take the lady to the dark room—
” Bastian's order to the other men cut her short.
They did as told before she could protest further, it didn't stop her from screaming
at the top of her voice - just as a while ago.
“She screamed like this on our way here.
She has a voice for making a noise, Zevran.
”
“Ah, I imagine.
” Zevran burst into laughter.
For once, it felt like he could tame her. The dark room scared her it was something
he could see.
“Thank you for this suggestion. She's scared of it. Perhaps something
to use against her when she acts out of character. What do you think, Bas?”
“You do have a point, my lord.
”
They talked some more. About Nyssa, although they knew her as Emilia. Then they
talked about the Pack's affair, a little bit about Thalia, then they parted ways - and
the Alpha a happy man.
The first day passed, the second day passed, and Nyssa remained in the dark room.
The Alpha, according to personal plans, wasn't ready to bring her out. What he was
ready to do, in fact, was visit her to see how well or badly she was faring.
He moved through the corridor with Thalia who begged to go with him.
Together, they listened to screams and anyone who was near the Alpha could tell
his satisfaction from the smile he had on his face.
“Bastian was right about Emilia
having a voice for making a noise, Thalia. What do you think?”
“He was right, Zevran. Listen to her cries.
”
One snap of his fingers and the lights went on. The gate demarcating light from
darkness was caused to open, then they could see each other.
“Look at you, my poor
maid.
” The man mocked.
“How has it been? You can talk to your Alpha.
”
“Just let me go—
” Nyssa begged.
“Please.
”
“Please?” Zevran was shocked.
just beg me?”
“Did she just—
” He looked at Thalia.
“Did the bitchThalia spoke.
“She did, my lord.
”
“That's unbelievable, Thalia. I don't believe it.
”
“I don't want to be here.
” The pleas came again.
“I'll serve you as a maid would.
Take me away.
”
“Don't rush me, Emilia. What did you say?” Zevran moved even closer.
run away. Why should I believe you're suddenly submissive?”
“You tried to
She didn't speak.
“That's what I thought.
”
He moved away a little.
“You may already know this; the guards will shut the gate soon Emilia.
” He looked
at the guards, ready to give the order.
“You have not spent half the time I planned
for you in the darkness.
”
He saw the horror in her eyes.
“Enjoy your stay here while it lasts.
” She begged as
he snapped his fingers, while the men shut the gate and turned off the lights.
“Good
girl you are, Thalia".
Lights turned on.The gate opened.“Good morning, Emilia.”Already tired from everything, she could only nod.“I'll need you to speak, Nyssa.” The man spoke again. He continued while she continued to nod.“How are you?”“My lord has sent me to you.”Weak. Or could he not see what this place had done to her? She would like to askhim this, but the last thing she wanted to take was chances.“I'm alright. Thank you. What do you want?”Bastian moved closer. He looked around as though it was his first time in this place.“Alpha Zevran hasasked me to take you out. Only if the conversation you two had is still valid. Whatdo you say, Emilia?”Before he could complete the last sentence, Nyssa had already nodded. She woulddo anything - absolutely anything to leave this darkness.“I already promised to beof good behavior.” She spoke now.“Let the Alpha know how willing I am to dowhat is right by him. I swear on my life.”“Good.” He snapped his fingers now.And two men moved closer.“Op
“Did you find her?”“No, my lord.” The head guard in The Silvermoon Pack answered with a bow as heknelt.“We have toiled for days without finding the woman's body.”Alpha Duskryn smiled.Although he hoped they found the woman, he was more than happy that this wasthe news.“I see.” He smiled again, relaxing his back against the hard chair.“Wildwolves have eaten her, obviously.” There was pity on his face for a moment - but itvanished the next time he looked up.“That should be all for now. I'd pass the”news. The head of the guards bowed before leaving.Alone, Alpha Duskryn remained in the meeting hall. Although there wasn't anymeeting he had planned to have - he needed some time to himself. Away from theLuna and their daughter.“This is good news.”Indeed, it was good news.More than just good news. A piece of news he could not wait to tell his familyabout. Emilia had been worried the former princess might return at any moment, and he had tried to tell her several times t

He was seated in one of the chairs, waiting. As the hall door opened, he looked up. A sigh of relief escaped his mouth while she led her way in. “Finally. Look at her.” He gestured to Thalia who was seated with him at the table. As before, she was still mad that he didn't tell her about this lady. “I don't know what else to say to you, Thalia. I am sorry I forgot to mention it to you—” A sigh escaped his mouth. “Let's discuss it later, mm?” “Of course, Zevran.” She scoffed. The Alpha smiled. Besides Bastian, only Thalia had the right to refer to him by his name. She was his first mate, a woman he loved to an extent. But to live, he had to do what was needed by rejecting the bond. And they still did everything mates normally do. Except for acceptance. “Your meal is ready—” “Did you bring some for my lady?” “You didn't tell me I will add her platter to—” “Are you saying there's not more in the pot, maid?” Zevran ignored his wolf's growling and concentrated on criticizing her
As a new day started, Nyssa was up. Just as the head of the maids asked, she was up and ready to go about her day. In her mind, she knew what she was after. Of course, she didn't give a fuck about the mad Alpha. Not one fuck. Everything she was doing was one way to find a route of escape. She wasn't awake when she was shipped into the Pack - else, she would know one or two ways to run away. “Good morning, Lady Emilia.” An ordinary maid who walked past her room, greeted with a bow. Nyssa could only nod as her thoughts were occupied - she needed to think. Her legs stopped moving when she got there. The door leading to and fro the Alpha's chamber. “Good morning. I have come to attend to the Alpha's needs.” She told the man who watched the door. “This is the time to clean his chamber.” The man didn't speak. He only nodded and opened the door, walking in to do something before coming back to let her in. “Don't wake them.” He mouthed before she completely got in. “The Alpha doesn't
Of all the people she expected Agnes to mention. Not this one. The meal hung in her throat as she tried to process what she just heard. Maybe - just maybe she didn't hear correctly. Nyssa looked up at the head of the maids who waited while smiling. “What did you say?” “Alpha Zevran, my lady. This is his Palace.” Fuck no. The older woman repeated the same words she assumed she hadn't correctly heard. “The Heartless Alpha.” Nyssa opened her mouth, swallowing crumbs of meat that hung in her throat. “The wicked Alpha Zevran.” She looked at the woman who was confused. “I'd be back to lecture you, my lady.” And she was left alone - to and with her thoughts. This couldn't be. It just could not be. Did the moon goddess remember who this man is and what he did to her so many years ago? Zevran, her parents’ killer. The same man who caused the war that took their lives - and started her misery. What was she doing in his Pack? How did she get here? Definitely, it wasn't fate. It co
