6 You Are My Prisoner

As Blake sat at his desk, his mind raced with thoughts of how to deal with the traitor in his pack. His pen furiously scratched across the paper as he jotted down ideas for potential punishments, his frustration evident in the tight grip on the writing instrument. Beyond the glass wall of his office, the city bustled with activity, but Blake was lost in thought, completely consumed by the task at hand.

As the late afternoon light filtered through the blinds, a gnawing feeling tugged at the back of Blake's mind. Something about his new secretary seemed familiar, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.  He knew through his senses that she was a werewolf, a seasoned one at that, who was unafraid to venture among humans in their everyday lives, and only the secret community of werewolves in Nashville had that kind of lifestyle. Blake wondered which pack she belonged to.

Blake's professional demeanor and outward appearance may have fooled most humans, but as a werewolf in Nashville, he knew that others of his kind could sense him, even in his human form. However, Lily seemed to be completely unaware of his true nature. This was a rare occurrence, as most werewolves were on guard around those who were not in their pack. Was she pretending, and if so, what her true intentions were. Was she here to spy on him and his pack, to try and topple his alpha power? No one had ever been able to take the title of the most powerful alpha in Nashville, and Blake wasn't about to let that change.

As he leaned back in his chair and rubbed his temples, his thoughts raced. He wondered what her ultimate goal was. Was she a threat to his pack, or could she be an ally in their fight for dominance in the city? Blake knew he needed to keep a close eye on her, but for now, he would simply observe and wait for his opportunity to strike.

But Blake was not the type that can wait. His curiosity had gotten the better of him, and he knew he needed to confront Lily before the day ended. He grabbed the phone and quickly dialed his secretary's desk.

“Lily, I need you to come to my office immediately,” he said.

“Right away, sir,” Lily replied.

Lily entered the room and Blake turned to face her, his expression blank. “Lock the door behind you,” he instructed and Lily complied before she strode towards Blake’s desk and took a seat.

Blake studied her silently for a few moments, and Lily waited patiently for him to speak. She knew that whatever he had to say was important, and she readied herself to listen attentively. Blake stood and walked away from his desk as though he was going to get something somewhere when, without warning, Blake walked past Lily and feather-touched her on the crown, causing her to transform into her wolf form.

Lily was shocked and confused by the sudden transformation, and she jumped away from Blake, unsure of what to do next. Lily quickly transformed back into her human form, completely taken aback by what had just happened.

She stared at him openmouthed and in great fear. What happened? Why did she suddenly transform. Did Blake did something to cause her to transform? What did he do to her?  Did he knew she was a werewolf? Who was this man? Has he power to expose the secret society? Her mind raced as she tried to process what had just happened to her. She felt exposed and vulnerable in front of Blake, and her instincts told her to run. But she was frozen in place, trembling.

Blake shook his head in disbelief as he addressed Lily, his voice low like a whisper. “You're a werewolf, and you didn't think to mention that during the job interview?” He walked back to his seat, clearly flustered. What? What was he talking about? She was not insane to put that information in her resume’ or made it clear during the interview! Is this man crazy?

“What did you do to me? I knew you did something to me. What was this all about? Are you going to exposed me to the world?” Sensing the danger she was in, she tried to appeal to Blake’s fear of werewolves. “Aren’t you afraid of werewolves, Mr. Moore?” she asked. She reasoned that since humans were naturally afraid of werewolves, Blake should be too.

Blake’s frustration was palpable as he interrupted her. “Afraid? No. You're a werewolf! That’s the issue. What am I supposed to do with you?” he asked toying the situation. “What were you even doing here in the first place?” Blake suppressed a smile at her bravado. “What exactly do you plan to do to me?” he challenged her.

Lily took a deep breath and responded, “Just let me go and forget this ever happened. If you don’t, I’ll have no choice but to turn you into a werewolf like me. A small bite with my saliva is all it takes.” Her boldness surprised even herself.

“I see. But since I am the one who caught you, that made you a prisoner of me.” Blake said, tapping the hard wood desk with the tip of his fingers. “What’s more, I knew that there existed a secret society of werewolves in Nashville and I have a list of most of them. Whose gang or pack did you belong?”

Were they ruined now? She realized and her heart bled for the outcome of the secret society. She said in defeat, “Solana. That was long time ago. I am no more connected to them.”

“Solana,” Blake repeated as though he was trying to remember.  To make his acting perfect, he faked searching his list on his computer. Then after a moment he beamed, “Greta! So you belong to Greta’s gang and Greta send you here to find out any weaknesses in me.”

“No!” Lily quickly said.  “Yes, I was once a member of Solana’s Pack but I lay down years ago because I realized I could not keep up with them. And there was a feud between me and a member there. Our leader, the alpha, consented as she sees the matter not good on my side. So that was it. I came here with no knowledge that some humans are already planning to eradicate us and I had no idea that the secret society were no more a secret. You see, I was cast out because of my weaker power and perhaps it is also my misfortune to fell into the dens of lions.” Lily said remorsefully. She felt so ashamed and wanted to run away. Yes, run away for life. At that thought, she step away eager to put distance from Blake’s ice cold stare.

“Sit!” Blake commanded. But Lily keep moving towards the door.

“I understand this conversation has one conclusion: I have no right to work here. I resign.” Lily rushed towards the door but Blake barged her.

“If you leave now, it would only mean I am right. Besides, aren’t you at my mercy now Ms. Werewolf? I could easily have the police here before you can step out of this building.” Blake whispered in her ears. For a quick moment he smelled her scent and it seems so good to him. Electric ran through his nerves so he quickly  stand back. Lily looked in his eyes letting the words sink in her brain. Lily went back to her desk and grab her bag and then change her mind. She sat down and stared blankly at her computer.

“Good choice,” she heard Blake from his office door and was chuckling. She turned, but the door was close.
