Connor

The rogue attack created a buzz among the pack members. I felt their restless energy surging through the collective mind. It was good. We should never let our guard down. Just because peace reigned between the various packs didn’t mean it would last forever. Peace was a very fragile thing in our world. The slightest confrontation could set off a full-scale war. As packs grew in number, the need for territory increased, and our territory was significant, and the game was bountiful. My pack wasn’t one of the largest, but what we lacked in numbers, we made up for in strength.

More pack members arrived while the omegas prepared the tables for the feast. The mouthwatering aroma of various dishes teased the senses. By the looks of it, my cooks had outdone themselves. There was more than enough food. I watched as a group of pups chased each other around the tables, squealing with laughter, and I wondered what our pups would look like. I imagined they would inherit Cassie’s stubbornnes

The tingles turned to fire. It felt like I was burning from the inside out. Sweat dampened my shirt. It stuck to my back and my chest. I pulled at my clothes, wanting to rip them off. It felt like my heart was on the verge of exploding with how fast it was going.Neither of them noticed my distress or even if they did, they probably thought it was because I was afraid of them. They were too intent on their discussion of what to do with me.“Mom, Dad, I’ll meet you down at the ferry. I’ll take care of this pest.” Stacy was so self-assured that she alone could end me.‘You just have to let me through, Cassie.’ I felt Sage pushing at my boundaries. Like it was so easy to give up control. I didn’t have the faintest fucking clue what I was supposed to do.“Stacy, you can’t kill Cassie!” Mrs. Forester tried to reason with her. “Connor won’t rest until he finds us.” She was right, though. And I hoped he would make them scream.“Let’s just tie her up and leave. I’m begging you.” I’ll give it

  • The Alpha of Wolf Creek   Brace Yourself

CassandraOf all the stupid things to do, Cassandra Browne, this must be among the top three. Trapped in an alleyway, lost and soaked to the bone, while a drug deal was going on across the street. Really fucking clever. This was how people got killed. I’ve watched a lot of true crime and horror movies to know.At last, the rain forced the dealers and their clients to move to a drier place and I retraced my steps. There were old apartment buildings on either side of the road, and I took refuge in the foyer to get out of the driving rain. When the rain calmed, I would make my way back to the hospital. I never intended to walk so far. Joel was probably going nuts looking for me.“Sage, you could find our way back, couldn’t you?” Of course she could. If I could get her to speak to me. She was a ball of misery curled up in the dark. Connor’s words really hurt us. “Look, I really need you now, Sage. Get it together. I’ve just made things worse by getting lost. I don’t want them to have to c

  • The Alpha of Wolf Creek   Searching

ConnorI shouldn’t have said that to Cassie. She was good with Aiden. It was cruel of me to remind her she didn’t give birth to him. But, in my defense, I lashed out because of how frustrating this situation was. And worst of all, this was my fault. I let my sympathy for Stacy cloud my judgment. But I never thought she would go to such lengths to destroy me.Joel wasn’t ready to hear apologies. “You know, if I were a different man, I could end you right now, Connor, without it affecting Cassie all that much.” My Beta’s wolf glared back at me with hateful intensity. “But you are as much a son to me as you are my alpha. Consider yourself lucky, son. But if you hurt my little girl one more time…”“Joel, I’m sorry.” If I didn’t respect him as my Beta and as my future father-in-law, I could have stripped him of his rank and thrown into the cells. Of course, he knew that. I hoped Cassie knew how much he loved her. “Help me get out of here.”“Alpha, you’re making my life difficult, you know.

  • The Alpha of Wolf Creek   Pity Party

CassandraJoel retrieved the banged up Jeep which Connor had driven into a tree, and we were on our way back to Wolf Creek. Connor’s SUV was still buried under rubble and even if we wanted to, we couldn’t get near it.“Damn it!” Joel cursed into the phone he borrowed from one of the pack members that found Connor. “We’re too late. Stacy’s parents came to fetch Aiden, and they left the pack grounds.” Joel slammed his fist against the steering. He turned his head to look at me, his face tense. He didn’t need to say anything. “This is all my fault! I should never have taken him to see them. Connor will hate me forever if we don’t get Aiden back.” I made a promise to guard Aiden with my life and I failed. Miserably.Joel grunted in sympathy. “You had no way of knowing they would do this.”“Connor said he didn’t trust them.” I wasn’t done feeling sorry for myself. “What do I know, anyway?”“Fuck this piece of junk!” the Jeep lurched and stuttered. “Could this day get any worse?” We were ju

  • The Alpha of Wolf Creek   No Time to Die

Connor“I need you to go back to the hospital. Four of our pack members were in the building when it happened. I can’t reach them through the mind link.” It was painful getting into the Jeep, but I didn’t want Cassie to know how bad it was. “Please, find out if the hospital admitted them.” I told her the names. “I can’t go back in there. They’ll sedate me this time.”“Which they should,” she said, her forehead creased with worry. “But, okay, I get why you can’t. Just stay here, okay? I’ll be back as soon as I can.” She parked the Jeep in the hospital parking lot and took off running back to the building. I waited until she was inside and then I slid behind the wheel, pressing my shredded shirt against the wound that still leaked. I nearly passed out from the movement.“Come on, you can do it.” I pep-talked to myself. “Miles, are you healing?”‘Barely. Won’t be able to shift.’ Miles sighed. ‘You’ve broken your ribs and there’s internal damage. You need surgery.’“We don’t have time.” I

  • The Alpha of Wolf Creek   Injured Alpha

CassandraI’ve only been to a hospital once in my life when that bastard Frank broke Agnes’ arm. She’d told the doctor she fell down the stairs. Which wasn’t entirely incorrect, because he had slapped her and then she fell down the stairs.Amelia led the way to the reception and spoke to the staff who directed us to the emergency admissions. We didn’t need to ask, because I saw Joel coming down the corridor. I broke into a run, leaving Amelia behind.“Dad!” I couldn’t care less what anyone thought who saw me running like a crazy person, tears streaming down my face. It was such a relief to see him in one piece. Well, almost. His clothes were torn to shreds, and he looked battered and bloody. I hugged him fiercely.“Hey, it’s alright.” He soothed my unruly hair.“No, it’s not. Where’s Connor and Alpha Troy?” I took in the burns on his skin. “What the fuck happened?”“Where is my mate, Beta Joel?” Amelia came towards us. The woman could hardly stand. I thought she would collapse, becaus
