"What is your name?"
Kael Adebayo smashes the silence between us before I can even pull my scent back under control, his deep baritone carrying the heavy, terrifying gravity of a prime dark alpha.
I drop my eyes instantly, my skin burning with the realization that I am standing there staring at him like a stunned omega who just scented her destined match. "Zaria Okoye," I manage to get out, my voice tight as I slide my professional medical seal across the dark wood table. "This is my lineage credential."
"Dr. Okoye, you may begin the treatment," Kael commands softly, his massive, scarred fingers brushing against the paper without his golden eyes ever leaving my face.
I set my leather satchel on the floor, my fingers trembling slightly as I pull out the silver acupuncture needles. I never planned to survive by treating alpha neural paths; four years ago, when the twin alpha heirs were growing inside me, I had completely abandoned my rank in the Okoye Bloodline to prepare for a quiet life in the den. But after the Mensah Clan threw me out, a master pack healer took me in, recognizing my raw instinct for channeling wolf energy through silver points. It is not my first time dealing with damaged wolves, but Kael's presence is suffocating, especially with his lead enforcer, Tade Mensah, hovering over my shoulder like he expects me to drive a silver blade straight into his alpha's spine.
I release a long, shuddering breath as the final needle settles into the heavy muscle of his thigh, the dominant aroma of cedar and burning leather fading slightly as his system absorbs the strike. "The silver must remain active for thirty minutes," I whisper, wiping a bead of sweat from my temple while packing away my kit. "Your wolf's muscles are locked tight, Master Kael. The tissue is still rejecting the trauma from the border ambush two years ago, but if we do this twice a day for a full cycle, the energy pathways should begin to clear."
"Clear?" Tade gasps, stepping forward with his hand dropping directly onto the hilt of his tactical dagger. "Are you telling us Master Kael will run with the pack again?"
"Why else would you summon a specialized healer to the Shadow Den?" I ask, turning my head to lock eyes with the enforcer.
Tade's expression completely shatters into raw, unadulterated relief, his eyes darting toward Kael before he looks back at me with fierce intensity. "If you restore our alpha's legs, the Adebayo Dominion will grant you whatever territory you demand."
I leave Kael's chamber before the thick, dark scent of his awakening wolf can overwhelm my senses, finding Selene Mensah waiting for me at the landing of the stone staircase.
"Have you eaten from the pack hunt yet?" Selene asks, guiding me down toward the massive iron gates of the estate. "The kitchens are active."
"Nia is guarding the pups at my apartment," I say, my chest tightening with immediate motherly anxiety. "I need to get back to my territory before the midday shift."
"The border roads are clear today, so the transport will be quick," Selene says, opening the heavy front doors for me.
We step into the wide cobblestone courtyard, but my paws freeze against the stone as two figures walk through the iron archway. It is my ex-mate, Kofi Mensah, his arm wrapped tightly around his new high-ranking mate, Amara Mensah. He is carrying her dragon-skin bag with a submissive grin, looking every bit the doting male he never was with me. The sight makes my inner wolf bray with bitter laughter, the old stinging rage returning because I let him keep our shared hunting grounds when the pack law judges severed our bond; I was too physically broken from labor to fight his enforcers for the land deeds.
Kofi had hidden every single medical document proving our artificial clinic insemination, telling the entire High Alpha Council that I had mated with a rogue pack behind his back. The lie ruined my name so completely that my own bloodline cast me into the outer waste.
The second Kofi's eyes land on me, his scent turns rancid with sudden panic. "What the hell are you doing on Adebayo land, Zaria?" he barks, his eyes flashing an ugly yellow as he steps in front of his new mate. "Are you tracking me because you heard I took a true alpha daughter?"
"Welcome back to the estate, Lady Amara, Lord Kofi," Selene says quickly, stepping between us to keep the peace.
Amara glances at me, her eyes tracking the worn fabric of my cloak before landing on my face with cold, aristocratic boredom. "Is this the new omega servant Uncle Kael brought in to scrub the lower dens?"
"This is Dr. Okoye," Selene corrects immediately, her tone hardening. "She is the personal alpha healer managing Master Kael's recovery."
"Healer?" Kofi spits, his jaw clenching as he glares at me. "Since when do you know anything about neural channels, Zaria? Selene, you shouldn't let just any stray wolf near the master. If she damages Uncle Kael's wolf further, her bloodline won't survive the execution."
"Kofi, stop," Amara murmurs, smoothing her silk dress as she gives me a patronizing look. "The poor girl is just trying to earn scraps from the high table. Don't be so harsh."
"You are too soft, Amara," Kofi sneers, his chest puffing out as he tries to project authority over me. "There are frauds everywhere in the modern wolf world. Look at her—she doesn't have the status to handle an alpha's energy."
I let out a low, mocking chuckle, the sound cutting through his posturing like a silver bullet.
"What are you laughing at?" Kofi snarls, taking a predatory step toward me.
"Nothing, Lord Mensah," I say, my voice dripping with venom as I look past him straight into Amara's eyes. "I am just reminding Lady Amara that she should look very closely at the wolves she lets into her bed. Some males are nothing but barren liars who will drain your purse, steal your territory, and ruin your life the moment a better offer comes along."
"Don't worry," Isobel Sinclair snaps, rolling her eyes as she crosses her tight leather-clad arms over her chest. "Even if Nia Bello doesn't claim High Alpha Kael, these twin pups will never be handed over to a disgraced female like you, Zaria. Who knows what kind of dark poison you would feed them? I would never trust an outcast wolf around Adebayo blood."My claws dig deep into the soft leather of my jacket, my wolf snarling furiously beneath my skin. I open my mouth to tear her whole world apart, but Tade Mensah steps out from the shadowed stone archway."Luna Zaria," Tade says smoothly, bowing his head just enough to show respect. "The High Alpha is demanding your presence in the private study immediately."I frown, listening to the muffled, heartbroken whimpers echoing from inside the main living hall. I reach for the brass door handle, desperate to force my way in.Isobel steps directly in front of the door, placing her hand flat against the wood. "I won't let you anywhere near
"What in the hell is more vital to this bloodline than your own Alpha heirs, Kael?" Naomi Kingsley’s furious voice booms through the grand archway of the Shadow Den, her heavy silver rings clacking against her crystal wine glass. "Are you truly so blind that you won't even set eyes on your own flesh and blood?"Isobel Sinclair lounges on the crushed velvet sofa nearby, a slow, toxic smirk spreading across her lips. "Is Aunt Zaria still up there in his quarters? He went to inspect Nia's temporary quarters early this morning, didn't he? Why would he suddenly lose interest in the pups? It must be Zaria whispering poison in his ear to keep him away from his rightful legacy."My four-year-old son, Kairo Okoye, sits on the edge of the leather bench, his tiny fingers digging into the straps of his heavy wolf-hide school bag. He hears every word coming out of Isobel's mouth, and his dark eyebrows knit together in a fierce, protective scowl. Mom? She’s talking bad about my mom again! Even at h
"If you sink that needle a millimeter deeper into my thigh, Zaria, I will make sure you spend the rest of the night pinned to this table under my shadow."Kael Adebayo’s low, gravelly rasp slices through the silence of the top-floor suite inside the Shadow Den, his dark golden eyes locked onto my hands. I flinch, my fingers tightening around the slender silver acupuncture needle. My wolf is howling inside my skull, clawing against my ribs in a frantic, suffocating frenzy."Hold still, High Alpha," I snap back, forcing my voice to remain dead even despite the violent tremor running through my veins. "Unless you want your dead nerves to stay paralyzed forever, keep your mouth shut."He lets out a harsh, dark chuckle, the muscle of his bare chest rippling as he leans back against the leather headboard. The heavy, intoxicating scent of crushed cedar, iron, and thunderstorm fills the room, saturating my lungs until my core aches with a dangerous, unwanted wetness. Kael’s gaze never leaves
"Where is she, Nia?" Kael roared, his dark Alpha aura crashing through the private dining hall of the Red Moon Tavern, shattering every crystal glass in sight. "Where is Zaria Okoye?!"Nia Bello stumbled backward, her knees trembling violently as Kael’s lethal golden eyes burned into her soul. "I... I don't know what you are talking about, High Alpha!""You lied to my face," Kael growled, stepping forward like a predator stalking its trapped prey. He grabbed the glowing blood scroll from the table, thrusting it against Nia's chest. "Healer Ronan Whitmore's blood spell does not lie. These twin Alphas carry my ancestral core, but they do not share a single drop of your blood! You signed a false declaration before the Covenant Keepers. That is high treason against the Adebayo Dominion!"Adanna Okoye gasped, her claws digging into the edge of the mahogany table. "Kael! Is this true? These pups... they are not Nia’s?""They belong to Zaria," Kael barked, his voice dropping into a guttural
Adanna Okoye cut her sharp gaze toward Nia Bello as my son spoke. Nia reached out immediately, resting her hand over Kairo’s small shoulder to soothe his sudden fear."Kairo, eat your raw game meat," Nia urged, her voice tight with strain. "We are heading straight back to our cottage the second we finish."Kairo pressed his lips into a hard line, refusing to pick up his bone fork. Adanna let out a soft sigh, trying to project the gentle warmth of an elder Luna. "Kairo, do you disown your own bloodline? I am not dragging you off to the dungeon! I merely wish to share a feast with my grandsons. Do not overthink this. Look at all the fresh kill on the table."Adanna piled carved venison onto Kairo and Jalen’s wooden trenchers, but both boys sat stiffly, their young wolf instincts completely on guard. They knew the Adebayo Dominion was dangerous ground.Nia let out a long, quiet breath when she realized Adanna had stopped pushing for immediate custody. If Kairo had not spoken up, she woul
Adanna Okoye placed a massive, rare piece of raw stag meat onto my son's silver platter, her clawed fingers tapping against the carved mahogany table of the Mensah Moon Estate dining hall."Do not worry yourself over Kael's legal threats, Nia," Adanna said, her voice dropping into a smooth, calculating whisper as her eyes lingered on my twin boys. "I will personally confront my son. This absurd nonsense ends now. I have a complete understanding of your difficult position in the lower territory. You spend every waking hour working the patrol lines, so you cannot offer these future dominant Alphas the luxurious life they deserve. You spend no quality time guiding their instincts. The boys are young, and their feral wolves need proper pack training, rich meat, and endless territory credits. Bring them back home to live in the Okoye Moon Lodge! Once they return to our bloodline, we will raise them with high honors. They will have everything, and you will finally be relieved of this crushi
