Lisa’s POV

The night air had turned heavy, charged with a tension I couldn’t place at first. I stepped out of the car behind Ronan, the soft click of my heels quickly drowned in the silence that wrapped around the figure standing at the front door.

She stood tall at first, chin high, eyes wide with some strange mix of pride and defiance. Like she had every right to be there. Like she belonged.

But it crumbled fast.

As Ronan took another step forward, the confidence in her eyes shattered. I could see it in the way her arms wrapped around herself, the shift in her weight like she suddenly didn’t want to be standing there anymore.

The porch light flickered slightly, casting strange shadows across her face, but I knew who she was long before she spoke.

Her voice came out hesitant, brittle at first, like she was forcing it out against something larger than pride, fear.

"Ronan…"

Just his name. Barely a whisper. The sound of it made me still.

He kept walking, his steps slow, but not uncertai

{Ronan's POV}Lisa didn’t blink. She sat there like she’d been nailed to the couch, eyes fixed on me, waiting for me to continue.I leaned back, my arm stretched along the couch’s top edge.I sighed “This morning I didn’t head for the usual routes. I went into town proper.”She tilted her head, curious.Haven’s town proper wasn’t like the markets Lisa had seen in the human world. This was larger, louder, and everything was normal… well, to a wolf like myself. To a human, it would be like a Circus freakshow. All around me, traders were present. Those selling skins, information, tools and the like, the children moved between stalls, and the air smelled like grilled meat, leather, and rain-soaked stone. It was the kind of place where you could lose yourself or be found if someone knew where to look.I kept my hood low, blending into the flow. My goal wasn’t the stalls. It was a tavern tucked between two tall, narrow brick buildings: The Pelt. The owner, Garron, had been in the business o

{Ronan's POV}“Call it curiosity or delusion, but the markings on her arms seemed familiar.”That's why I had to dig deeper.Sure, she was an outskirt kid I could have walked away from without too many questions. Not from neglect, but because her life didn't tie into my hunt. A New Haven child though? That had threads leading somewhere. And right now, threads were what I needed. ‘It can't be a coincidence that I found her, right?’ I thought to myself. If she had family here, I could make introductions. Offer a safe return. And in the process… slip in questions about Charles’ last days without anyone clamming up. Disguising curiosity as neighborly concern worked better than direct interrogation. ‘That could work.’So I decided… She was coming with me.I called one of my Bloodmoon wolves, Orion, as I got home. He'd keep watch over the house when I wasn’t there. As I ended the call, my phone buzzed again. This time, it was a message from one of my men stationed in the human world. A s

{Ronan's POV}‘Damn.’Lisa didn’t say anything… at first. She just stared at me, mouth drawn into that pout she saved for when she was annoyed but still wanted to be cute about it. I knew the look. And I deserved it.“I should’ve told you. A few weeks back, when you called and I didn’t answer for days.”Her eyes narrowed. “Wait. Don't tell me you were…?”“You sly—”She couldn’t complete anything before I leaned over and pinched her cheek. She swatted at me, but the corners of her mouth curled despite herself.“I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want you stressing. You already had enough on your plate.”“That’s not your call.”“I know. But I made it anyway.”She rolled her eyes, exaggerated and dramatic. “You’re lucky I’m soft.”“Soft? Since when?”She smacked my arm, then leaned against the couch, arms loosening slightly.‘Pheww… that worked.’Her irritation hadn't vanished completely, but the sting had dulled.I grew serious again. “The truth is… I kept my distance on purpose. It was

{Lisa’s POV}There was something about the way Heri stood beside me that reminded me of the orphanage. The quietness. The way her eyes watched everything without blinking, like she was afraid it might all disappear if she didn’t memorize it fast enough. Even the way her small hands folded behind her back while I sliced the tomatoes on the counter.I didn’t know her story. But I’d seen that kind of silence before.“I used to cut my fingers a lot, you know,” I said casually, holding up a piece of tomato to show her the grip. When I was sure she heard me, I continued. “My first lesson ended with more blood in the salad than mayo.”Heri tilted her head slightly, the corner of her mouth twitching. Almost a smile. Almost.Encouraged, I pushed a bowl closer to her. “Go ahead. Try slicing a few. I’ll guide your hand if you want.”She didn’t move. But her eyes flicked to the knife, then to me. Then back again. I could tell she was curious, maybe even excited… but hesitation pinned her in place

{Lisa’s POV}The first thing I felt wasn’t the sun. Or the sheets. It was eyes.Tiny, quiet eyes.I opened mine slowly, still fogged up by sleep, and found a little girl kneeling at the side of the bed, her chin resting on the mattress. She blinked up at me, wide-eyed and still.I sat up abruptly.“Oh—”She didn’t flinch. But then, like a switch flipped, she scurried away without a word, her small feet barely making a sound on the floor as she slipped out through the door.“Ronannnn. Who's the girl?” I called. His voice came from somewhere outside the room. “I'm here. Just come out back.”I squinted at the half-drawn curtains, sunlight slashing across the walls in golden lines. Whatever time it was, it smelled like morning. “Ok, cominggg.”I stretched, groaned, yawned my soul out, then patted around the sheets for my phone before I remembered it was on the stand to my side.I pulled on the robe at the end of the bed, snuggling a bit longer before I stepped out.The hallway opened int

{Lisa's POV}The breeze was cooler up here, laced with the scent of salt and that strange smell of ancient trees.I stood on the edge of a cliff, barefoot, watching the ocean crash against the jagged rocks below. It wasn’t violent. The water rolled and curled like some living, breathing thing, exhaling mist into the blue sky.Behind me was a large stretch of land that looked like it had been stolen out of a medieval movie. Complete with castles, stone cottages, warm flickering lamps, and so much more. All of it stretched out under the glowing orb of a fat, silver moon.It felt like a painting. No. A hallucination.“This is real?” I asked, brushing a hair from my eyes.“As real as it gets,” Ronan said behind me.I turned. He looked… unbothered. Like we hadn't just travelled through a cave to what was apparently a different world entirely. The wolf realm. He spread his arms. “This…. is our honeymoon.”I snorted. “Of course it is. A honey-moon.”He laughed. “You got the pun quicker than
