Ronan’s POV

Coming home was supposed to feel the same. It usually did. Familiar halls, familiar scent of dinner through polished wood, the low murmur of staff that faded the second they caught a glimpse of me.

But tonight... something shifted. The air was lighter. Yet it felt warmer. An overwhelming sense of urgency still tinged the air.

It made for an interesting mix of contradictions which left me a little bit curious to find out what was going on.

‘What's going on here?’

It hit me before I even stepped out of my coat. The scent. Not just food, but home-cooked food. And not the curated perfection of our usual chef's meticulous hand… or hands. Depending on the occasion. This had soul. The smoke — and what was that… butter? — threatened to drag me by the nose.

I narrowed my eyes as I walked toward the kitchen. The faintest clatter of utensils and a voice humming off-key greeted me.

What the hell?

There she was. Lisa.

Wearing a damn chef's cap way too big for her head. Flour streaked

  • The Alpha’s Accidental Surrogate    Chapter 43

Lisa’s POVThe room was spinning when I came to.At first, I thought I was dreaming — my limbs heavy, tongue dry, breath coming in short, erratic gasps. My eyes blinked open slowly to the pulse of an overhead bulb flickering in and out of life. Then realisation crept in… The walls were bare. Cracked concrete. The scent of rust and mold filled the air, laced with something else, like gasoline.I tried to move. That was when I realized my wrists were bound behind me. A sharp ache radiated from my shoulders, and the back of my neck felt bruised, as if I’d been yanked like a rag doll. My knees knocked together. The metal chair beneath me groaned at the shift.Panic came slow, but steady. Like a tide rising. Then the cold metal pressed against my temple, and I couldn’t tell if the shaking was mine or from the tremble of the hand holding the gun.“Call him,” the voice growled, breath hot and sour against my cheek. “Get Ronan here. Now. Or you die.”My breath hitched, chest tightening so har

Lisa’s POVFor the first time in days, I forgot every question I had ever wanted to ask.I just stood there, blinking at the scene, heart racing, and whispered,"Wait... it’s my birthday?"I couldn’t tell what shocked me more. The fact that Ronan knew my birthday. The fact that he had done all this — set it up with such precision and quiet care. Or the fact that I, Lisa, had completely forgotten it was today. How do you forget your own birthday?‘How do you forget your own birthdayyyyy, Lisa! Tsk.’I stood frozen, blinking at the space around us. Draped lights swayed gently in the breeze. The table was laid out like something from a magazine spread: delicate candlelight, soft gold cutlery, a linen runner in pale cream. The skyline stretched behind it all, catching the last golden sliver of the sun dipping beneath it. The whole setup glowed. It was beautiful. Ridiculously so.“Come on,” Ronan said gently, placing a hand on the small of my back.He walked me forward, pulling out my seat

  • The Alpha’s Accidental Surrogate    Chapter 40

Lisa’s POV‘What was that?’ The question festered in my mind all night. And the night after. And the one after that. Yet there was no answer in sight. The next few days slipped by like warm water — steady, unremarkable, and just familiar enough that I almost convinced myself nothing had changed.Ronan went back to being Ronan. He kept to his office more, came down for meals less, and when we crossed paths, it was with that same guarded civility we always danced around. He was sharp, composed, barely giving anything away beneath the usual clipped sarcasm and perfect posture. One wouldn’t guess anything had happened between us, not even the briefest spark of a moment. A moment he should've questioned just as much as I did.‘Maybe I'm overthinking it…’ So I... I went back to being me.I focused on the Red Loom prep, held on to my excitement like a kid would with a new toy. It felt so real I could cradle it to sleep. I met with Mrs. Jocelyn three times that week, each session more intens

Lisa’s POVThe second the question left my lips I knew something was wrong. I blinked at him. Even Damon looked up from his plate, uncertain.I didn’t say anything else. Just stared at him as he stared at his hands. The joy from earlier still clung to the room, but hushed now. Like a plug had been placed in my ears, muting the sound.I stared intently as he wore a solemn expression He looked different. Not just tired. Not just worn from whatever the day had dragged him through. Ronan wore his silence like a bruise. Subtle, but visible the longer you stared.“I think I have some things to iron out with Sean and Colt.” Damon said as he exited the dining room. Leaving just the two of us.I leaned forward slightly; "Is this about the meeting with Mr. Greaves?" I asked, watching the way his jaw clenched just a little too tight. His eyes flicked up. "Something like that."He stared at his empty plate, then ran a thumb slowly along the rim of his glass. I waited. Ronan didn’t like being pus
