Lisa’s POV

Somewhere between my door clicking shut and my fingers loosening around the doorknob, the silence hit.

The kind that made you sit with your own thoughts. The kind that pressed up behind your ears and filled your chest with everything you didn’t say aloud.

I leaned against the door for a few seconds, taking it all in. The quiet. The stillness. The slow, ridiculous curl of a smile I couldn't fight off, despite the unease.

Ronan had that effect. It was infuriating. It was comforting. It was both.

Still, despite the warm fuzziness humming through my veins, I felt something heavier lingering beneath it. Not dread. Not exactly. But a subtle pressure. Like I was standing just before a drop.

It was, of course, Selena.

The reminder settled on my shoulders. It didn’t matter how sweet or funny the night had ended — she was still my reality tomorrow. And the next day. And the ones after that. Until I was done with the event, and maybe long after that.

I pulled the hoodie I’d laid acros

Lisa's POV“Oh really now?” Damon said, squinting at me.“What?”“Nothing nothing.” He laughed.“Yup.” I popped the ‘p’ and nodded with faux seriousness. “I am. Come onnn, just a matter of time and mom Lisa will be on the scene”He scoffed. “Ey, whatever you say, Lisa.”We both burst out laughing. Our footsteps crunched softly on the gravel path, the breeze carrying the scent of something grilled in the distance. Probably someone’s barbecue two streets over. Kids had long gone inside, and porch lights were blinking to life one by one. It felt like the world had taken a deep breath and settled into quiet. The neighbourhood sure seemed like a safe yet lively one.“This is such a wholesome way to spend your day off,” I said.Damon didn’t answer immediately. He tilted his head back, eyes fixed on the sky like he was trying to read something written in the clouds. His smile dimmed a bit, not sad exactly, just… removed.“Yeah,” he said quietly. “It is.”I glanced over at him, catching the

Lisa's POVThe first bite was divine. My eyes widened. My fork paused midair as I turned slowly to stare at Damon across the small table. “You didn’t tell me the food here was this good!”He smirked, poking at his grilled chicken. “I thought the line outside would’ve given it away.”“There was no line.”He shrugged.I blinked, taking another bite of the cheesy potato balls swimming in what had to be a sacred blend of garlic and tomato sauce. “This is criminally underrated,” I muttered, half to myself.“Seriously, why aren’t people tripping over themselves to eat here? They should have a full queue out the door!”Another spoonful of bliss.I pulled my phone out and discreetly opened the notes app: [ small eatery near south wing, hidden gem. call about Red Loom sponsorship idea? ]Then I kept eating like I’d been starved for a week.Across from me, little Anya was swinging her legs under the table, watching me with wide, curious eyes.Damon had ordered her something from the kids’ menu:

Lisa's POVHe held the girl with this easy familiarity, like she'd always belonged in his arms. They even looked alike.‘It’s like looking at a mirror image.’I ducked low in the seat, just enough to not be seen, and cracked the door open.Babbie said nothing. Just popped a lollipop in his mouth and scrolled casually on his player. Like watching me tail someone into a mall was a casual Wednesday afternoon for him.I slipped out and crept closer, using a tree and one of those animal-shaped trash cans as cover. From behind a smiling giraffe, I watched Damon lift the little girl higher in the air as they went further and further from the residential area towards the mall.“What have you eaten today?” he asked. She shook her head, pouting. “Nothing.”Damon narrowed his eyes. “Really? Then how come I see ketchup on your cheeks, huh?”She rubbed her cheeks fast, looking scandalized. “Where?!”He burst into laughter. “Nowhere. But good to know you’re a messy eater.”She stuck her tongue out

Lisa's POV“Let's step on it.” I said, burning with anticipation. The driver didn’t even shrug. “Yh, sure.”I asked curiously. “No suspicion? No moral questions? No ‘why are we following him, miss?’”“Yh, sure,” he repeated, shrugging into his seatbelt like this was just another Wednesday. I sat back, narrowing my eyes. Okay then…I’d prepared arguments in my head. Long, confident ones. About how this wasn’t stalking, but curiosity. Morbid, sure, but still curiosity.I wanted to know the people I lived with. Ronan, Damon, Sean, Colt. Especially Damon, since he seemed the most accessible. How did he spend his off days? Did he have loved ones and relatives, or was Ronan his only family? Did he stay alone? Not exactly the calm retreat Mrs. Jocelyn would've expected, but it was creative use of my time, no?All these questions and more plagued my mind and I needed answers.‘Speaking of Sean and Colt,’ I thought, settling into the seat. ‘They’re the ones who got me this ride.’The moment I

Lisa's POV‘Why did I think sleep would calm my mind?’ If anything, it fanned the flames of my paranoia. There I was, sprawled on my bed like a beached starfish, phone held above my face and rereading the message for the fourth time this morning.“Mandatory?”MANDATORY?!That word alone had me pacing in mental spirals now. It didn’t seem like anything last night, but suddenly I read too much into it.I narrowed my eyes at the screen, suspicion rising like a dramatic musical score in my head. And that’s when my brain decided to stage a full-scale, high-budget production.Inside the neon-pink thought bubble floating over my head, a cartoon version of me stood center stage, furrowed brows and all. Enter: Chibi Selena, with perfectly curled hair and devil horns holding a clipboard that read: Operation: Derail Lisa. Attempt #140725“Let’s give her two days off,” chibi-Selena cackled. “That way she’s out of the loop just long enough for something to go sideways. Hehe~ sabotage complete!”I

  • The Alpha’s Accidental Surrogate    Chapter 60

Lisa's POVI fumbled with my phone, scrolling through pamphlet designs and gaining insights. All while staring at the front door the entire time.‘This is why I need games on my phone.’ I sighed.“Good to have you home, Mr. Damon,” I said as I heard the front door open and close behind him.He stepped in, and — oh.He was… covered in blood, sweat, dirt, and something that might’ve been oil…? I didn’t even want to know.Damon blinked at me with that same unbothered calm like he’d just come back from a jog instead of what looked like a murder scene. No, a trip to the slaughter.“Mhmm. Thank you,” he murmured, voice deep and steady.I stared. “Are… you… okay?”He glanced down at himself like he was only just realizing the state he was in. “Oh. Forgot about that.”How do you forget being soaked in all that? Weren’t wolves supposed to have sharper senses? “I’m going to wash up now,” he added, already halfway up the stairs. Then he paused, tossed a glance over his shoulder, and added with
