My eyes widened at his reaction that showed not even the slightest respect. “You should remember, I am the Luna in this place.”

“The Luna who is ignored.” He interrupted, unashamedly insulting me. His eyes met mine without hesitation, without fear, and without even the smallest attempt to be respectful. “Soon, you’ll be replaced.”

Their laughter echoed one after another in front of me, their eyes glancing at me from head to toe, mocking without pause.

As I stood silent, processing their behavior and words, one of them stepped closer, leaning on the iron bars. “I give you a little update about it since you are here and know nothing about what’s going on out there.”

I wasn’t curious, or at least that’s what I thought. But I found myself paying attention to him, while something uneasy grew in my chest.

“They’re in the Alpha’s chamber right now, they must be sleeping together since they’ve missed each other so badly.”

Ah. I can’t feel anything right now except my tears falling from my eyes. So, Aaron keeps me locked in this dark, filthy place while he makes love to her in his chamber here in this camp? The very chamber that even I, his Luna, was never given permission to enter?

So much pain creeps inside me right now, until I can barely see anything and can hardly hear.

“They will soon have the heir that the Alpha has long awaited, and you…” that mocking smile appeared again. “You will soon disappear and be forgotten. Poor Luna.”

I staggered backward. My steps faltered, and I fell back down onto the cold floor.

My hands clutched my chest, crawling slowly as I squeezed it. “No wonder, I feel pain.”

It turns out that the pain I’ve been feeling in my chest wasn’t just heartbreak. It wasn’t enough to lock me in this place and leave me with emptiness, he torments me further with the agony of his betrayal.

No wonder my wolf has been howling in suffering all this time. I thought she only shared my heartbreak over our feelings for Aaron.

I bent forward, the pain in my chest making my ears ring. The last thing I heard was their laughter mocking me, then suddenly that sound disappeared along with their presence.

My body convulsed, the pain suffocating me. The oxygen in the room felt as though it had thinned, and I struggled desperately just to breathe.

“Aaron, you’re truly cruel.” Tears streamed down uncontrollably.

Our marriage was never blessed with a child. No matter how hard I pleaded, Aaron never touched me.

Except for that night. When his consciousness slipped away because of the alcohol that made him drunk, Aaron did it to me.

But even then, I don’t want to remember that night. The first night that should have been beautiful, a memory to cherish for the rest of my life, turned into something I wanted to bury and forget.

I remember that I cried afterward. I couldn’t enjoy it, every touch of his was so rough, he jerked and ravaged me even as I begged him, feeling torn apart and burning.

Aaron lost his mind, he forced me like I was a beast for him to unleash his lust upon. I ache every time I remember it, but I make excuses for him, telling myself that at that time, he wasn’t truly himself. I kept finding reasons so I could forgive him.

But now, if what they say is true, then I no longer have any reason to forgive him.

All my life, all I’ve ever known was how to love him and keep making excuses to accept him. But what if I have to stop?

I’m not sure I can. I still want to be with him, but I don’t want to drown in this foolishness forever if everything they said is true.

As I questioned all of this to myself, the sound of the door opening reached my ears again.

It must be Aaron. He must have come to see me.

I wiped my tears and quickly lifted my face to see him. “Aaron…” My voice stopped the moment I saw Emma standing there instead.

My eyes stared blankly at the innocent smile she gave me.

“How are you, Maddie?” The woman’s voice asked softly, yet it felt like I was being stabbed deeper. “Have you gone insane?”

She glanced to her left and right, pretending to look for something. “Aaron isn’t here, he’s busy making preparations and choosing a wedding dress.”

Wedding? My brow furrowed, my eyebrows pressed together as my eyelids opened wide in disbelief.

“What are you talking about? Who’s getting married?”

Her smug face shows up in front of me as she laughs. “Why ask? Of course, we are.” She’s proud. “We’re getting married soon, Maddie. As soon as possible. Aaron was so excited to see me again, he doesn’t want to waste any time.”

“No!” What is she talking about? Aaron is married to me. “You can’t do this. He’s my mate, Emma.”

Emma’s lips curl upward, her gaze locking on me as I stand behind the bars, as if I’m saying something ridiculous. “Why not? Aaron loves me, while you are no longer needed.”

I bite my lips tightly. That word needed makes my worth feel so low.

The woman claps her hands loudly, and behind her appears a group of unfamiliar werewolves, their eyes fixed on me.

I turn my gaze back to Emma. “Who are they? What are you trying to do?” My steps retreat backward.

I don’t need to face them head-on to know I can’t handle them. Their aura crushes down on me, and instinctively, I know I’ll be overwhelmed against these werewolves.

Emma smiles. “Since you are no longer needed, I need to clean things up, and they’ll do it for me.”

She gives them the order, and they start moving. The iron door opens, the werewolves step inside, and immediately charge at me.

At first, I try to fight back, but once both my arms are seized, and another forces my neck down until I’m kneeling, I can no longer move.

“Emma, let me go! What are you doing?” I groaned, struggling to break free, but it was useless. My eyes could only dart toward her. “You’re lying! I never hurt you, on the contrary, you’re the one hurting me right now.”

Emma stepped closer, lifting my chin so our eyes met. “You hurt me by stealing Aaron from me! I’m only returning the favor for what you did.”

“Let me go. Please! Someone, help me!” I cried out, desperately trying to free myself.

This time, the innocence vanished from her face. “It’s useless to scream, Maddie. No one will come to save you.”

I see her eyes, sharp and full of hatred. Emma, the innocent woman everyone thinks of as a pure angel, is the true evil in disguise.
