I choked on my tea, the drink spurting out and trailing down the side of my mouth, down my throat as I coughed. My face scorched and my hand trembled as I placed the cup back onto the table, almost spilling the rest of its contents.

“Nerina!” I scolded, half-heartedly, my voice rough and breathy from almost choking to my death.

She smirked, “I’m right, aren’t I?”

I wiped my mouth with a napkin and tried to breathe, “Y-You… saw?”

“Hmm, not really, but I’m pretty sure I knew what I walked in on.” She responded, her smirk growing.

My hands covered my face as I groaned. “Oh goddess…”

Nerina crackled, “Yeah, you can’t lie to me now.”

“Why did you have to walk in on that?” I muttered, mostly to myself but Nerina’s ears were too sharp for her own good… when you need them not to be. Then peeked between my fingers to look at her.

But the longer I held her sharp gaze, the more turbulently my mind unfurled. But I also knew Zenya was trying to play some sort of mind games with me. She was trying to pull a wild string against me. She’d done so before and I was barely healed from my wounds.

How could you… How could you kiss that woman? And worse, in front of me!” Cassius shuffled, his hands sinking into his pockets. His face and voice exuded a calmness contrasting with Zenya’s fuming expression. “What’s wrong with that?
