45. Getting Away

Crystal watched the scenes pass out the window as Killian drove to the mountains and to the castle. They had been on the road for a bit, stopping more than usual. This was the first time they left without having work to do. They stopped to enjoy each other and the views along the way that they wouldn't have time to do before. They stopped to eat and he helped her out of the truck.

"Are you okay, my dear?"

"Yes. This is the first time we've done thing for just us."

"I know. It's a weird feeling, but we should relax."

She smiled and walked with him inside. They ate and laughed and talked and other wolves came up to them during their meal.

"How does it feel to be retired?"

"It feels weird, honestly."

"But it's also a welcomed vacation."

"Well, I hope you enjoy your trip. You two deserve it."

The waitress left and they paid their bill. They went on their way once more and stopped by the river before they headed upward.
