Lloyd’s POV

The storm outside hadn’t started yet, but the air in my study felt thick with it.

I dropped the scroll Elora had retrieved onto my desk, its crimson twine still tight.

I had asked her why she had gone there, but she shrugged.

"Curious," She had said simply.

I couldn't help but let out a low chuckle.

"What?" She asked, frowning.

"You still don't trust me, do you?" I asked, my eyes searching hers

She shook her head slightly, not revealing any emotion. "I would rather not trust anyone."

"Not even your boss?"

"Not even my father," She said and looked away. "That's if he were still alive."

There was a slight emotional outburst there. I wasn't sure if it was anger or hate or sadness. But I knew it was one of them.

So I didn't say anything else; instead, I dismissed her.

Deep down I knew she was still hurting, but she was good at hiding it from the world.

It was obvious that she was madly in love with her husband, and his betrayal had really hurt her and made her angry.
