Elora's POV

We were done with the tea at the table inside, and we stood outside in the wide clearing. He switched from one stance to another, explaining.

“The thing about being a mage is about knowing how your magic responds to you,” he explained. “Because once you get to a place of understanding, you can lean in. It’s just like ballet.”

“Uhm...Kael, I think we should deal with the elephant in the room before anything else.”

“What elephant?” He glanced around.

“Not literally, Kael,” I snorted. “I mean, the biggest matter we have here.”

“Oh? Is that what you guys call it now?” He blinked.

“How old are you, Kael?” I muttered.

He walked up to me. “So, are you going to start talking? Or?”

He gave me a straight face. “Well, there is a way that you can stay hidden, though. It’s buried deep in the books. Even I don’t know how the trick works.”

“So, you’re expecting me to find it?” I asked.

“With the basic spells I just taught you inside,” he didn’t flinch. “You should be able to handle yours

Lloyd's POVI watched with wide eyes as the witch trashed in the fire, screaming. Her hands and legs flared, and she struggled to crawl out of the flames. I turned back sharply to the figure who sent her flying to realize that he had disappeared. His face was familiar, but I couldn’t tell where I’d met him and how I did.The wind around us had reduced, but the ground still trembled slightly. Everyone still on their feet, scrambled for safety, running towards the area of the yard that led to the gate. My eye scanned the clearing, noting everyone on the floor, some of whom were omegas in the Alpha house.“Xavier, help the wounded,” I commanded.“Of course,” he scrambled off, and Ragnar followed him. I turned from them back to the fire, my mind still churning at the recent turn of events. My gaze landed on Zeke, who ran alongside the others, scrambling for safety, and I remembered Elora. I threw my gaze around sharply, looking for Elora’s figure, but I couldn’t find her anywhere.

Elora's POVMy heart thundered within my chest as the ground rumbled beneath my feet, sending everyone staggering. My hands flared as I struggled to hold my stance, before I grabbed onto Lloyd to keep from falling. He leaned sideways from much force, struggling to steady himself. Shouts and groans filled the air as the witch’s chant grew louder. I waited for my fingers to tingle with warmth, but nothing happened. I reached into the core of my being, but it was as if there was a hollow within, as opposed to the heat and burning I used to reach out for. My hands trembled as a thought hit me.She might have rendered every mage here powerless before starting this ritual. I tried to dismiss it, but I found many reasons not to. There are chances that some mages among us might have tried to use their magic and failed. I just realized because I wasn’t paying attention. My entire body was trembling, and I felt a knot tightening in my stomach. The witch was speaking fast now, her voice g

Lloyd's POVThe campfire had been set, burning brightly. We formed a circle around it, the faces of the elders, councilors, betas and every member of the Alpha house lit in golden-yellow glow. It heated our skin with warmth, and the brilliant light made the silver hue of the full moon insignificant. Every face looked anticipatory, but my shoulders were set. I folded one of my hands into a fist.Elora, by my side, stood still, too still. Occasionally, I’d give her a glance. Her face was glued to the flames burning before us, her posture too stiff. On my other side, Xavier’s jaw was set, and he had given me a look when I glanced his way.Elder Rhys stepped forward towards the fire. “I believe we all know why we gathered here,” he started. “As part of our mission to ensure peace in the pack, we must also ensure that it comes through the right means.”A small murmur rose from the crowd around, competing with the burning crackles from the bonfire.“I know none of us expected this,” El

Elora's POVI believed that Lloyd would come up with some miraculous plan to save us from the ordeal of the Crimson Circle. None of us has an idea of how they are going to intercept the Crimson ritual. The only thing we know is that they have their own posing as the witch. And that is where it gets all complicated. We don’t know if the lady posing as Miranda is the actual Crimson Circle witch or whether she was just a grifter. Either way, we know that some members of the Crimson Circle will show up, and when they do, we don’t even know how we’d identify them.I had my fair share of dealing with Darius, and I hoped that my magic would intervene like it always does, but I still feared that thing might go wrong somehow. I entangled my arms with Lloyd as I joined him, my eyes overlooking the clearing downstairs. A couple of omegas were setting up long firewood for a gigantic campfire.Standing with Lloyd in the room felt much better than staying alone, so I relished the moment as I ma

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   129_The Evening at Dusk

Lloyd's POVI stood before my windows, overlooking the garden, where omegas and a few betas ran around to get the place ready for the cleansing ritual tonight. For a moment, it felt so surreal. I didn’t know what to expect. The possibilities of everything that could go wrong in this ritual rang in my head, and for a moment, the fight against sorcery felt tangible. It felt real. All this while, we never had an idea of what we were fighting. This night is the night where everything comes to the surface. It’s the wonder night of the Crimson Circle. The night they’ll try to use to recruit more people into their circle and further propagate their mission.Damn what Davina said. I scoffed within me, shoving a hand into my pocket. We’ve got this tonight. We can handle this no matter what Davina thinks. But Davina claimed that she could see the future in fragments. If she has seen it, what stops it from happening? “Alpha?” I almost flinched at Xavier’s voice. I didn’t turn to him.“What

Lloyd's POVAfter Elora left the room with Lena, I walked to the seat Elora had abandoned and sat down. My mind was bothered by the urgency of the cleansing ritual and the things Lena claimed Davina told her. For some reasons, I felt Lena held back on what Davina told her, but I also didn’t want to get on her bad side since she has agreed to help us. “You don’t look so bright today, Alpha,” Xavier noted. “Is it because of the situation last night?”“What situation?” I gave him a sharp look.He hesitated. “The one between you and Elora. The one you’ve refused to say anything about.”I dragged my gaze away from his face and leaned back, hanging my gaze on the ceiling. The gold lines on the white ceiling seemed to fade in and out. I blinked my eyes closed. “I told you we are cool,” I said.“Are you sure about that?” Xavier asked. “Because you don’t sound so sure.”“Are you doubting me right now?” I threw the question back at him. He didn’t reply immediately. The silence let me go ba
