Elora’s POV

I stared at Kathryn in bewilderment as the first words she told me sank in, and everything that has happened in the last couple of months came into perspective.

Darius was going to reach out to me whether or not Lloyd reached out to me first. Lloyd bringing me in back into the beta position only made things easy for him.

His plan probably was to recruit me into the crimson circle, then have me train his sister.

I looked away from Kathryn, looking at the road before me.

My hands went weak at my side, and I didn’t know how to explain to Kathryn that everything her brother may have told her is all a lie. I drew in a breath.

“You seem shocked,” Kathryn said, snapping me back.

I nodded, a lie coming to my head immediately. “Yeah. I mean…mages have been in hiding for a while. It never occurred to me that I would run into one so early.”

“I know that Darius warned me a number of times not to show people some of the tricks I’ve learnt, but I trust you.”
