Lloyd's POV

From the way the lady froze and the sudden shift of the energy in the air, we knew that something was off. There was a problem somewhere.

Something had gone wrong.

Instinctively, Xavier and I took fighting stances and waited. For a moment, nothing happened, and the young’s lady’s eyes landed on me.

“Do you hear that?” she asked.

Xavier and I exchanged a look, and I strained my enhanced hearing, but I still couldn’t pick anything.

“I can’t hear anything,” I said.

“It sounds like an approaching buzz,” she turned her head this way and that way, a few strands of her hair packed back falling over her face. “Like the approach of a mother ship.”

I was about to open my mouth to reply when I heard the loudest bang that sent me staggering.

A bright light that I couldn’t explain where it came from hurled straight for me and for a moment I was dazed. I turned away, covering my eyes with my elbow and braced for impact. The impact never came.
