Lloyd's POV

We stared at Davina as if she had just told us that the whole earth was about to be destroyed by fire, and there was nothing we could do about it.

Elora, who was leaning forward, was close to perching on her seat, and I, on the other hand, felt little ripples of adrenaline as my brain processed the whole situation.

If Davina was right, then it meant one thing. I may have just entertained a sorcerer without knowing it.

“So, essentially, you’re saying that the woman—the masquerader—is a sorcerer?” Elora asked, all trace of her sarcasm gone.

Davina frowned. “Maybe. Or she could be a very good actress. But I’ll suggest that we don’t make hasty conclusions yet. I’m saying we should watch before we leap.”

A dry laugh left Elora. “The ghost is telling us to watch before we leap. So much for being a ghost.”

“Shut up, Stark!” Davina’s comeback was cold.

“If there’s anything I’ve learnt about being on Earth, I can bet with blood that anything rushed leads to drastic consequences.

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   129_The Evening at Dusk

Lloyd's POVI stood before my windows, overlooking the garden, where omegas and a few betas ran around to get the place ready for the cleansing ritual tonight. For a moment, it felt so surreal. I didn’t know what to expect. The possibilities of everything that could go wrong in this ritual rang in my head, and for a moment, the fight against sorcery felt tangible. It felt real. All this while, we never had an idea of what we were fighting. This night is the night where everything comes to the surface. It’s the wonder night of the Crimson Circle. The night they’ll try to use to recruit more people into their circle and further propagate their mission.Damn what Davina said. I scoffed within me, shoving a hand into my pocket. We’ve got this tonight. We can handle this no matter what Davina thinks. But Davina claimed that she could see the future in fragments. If she has seen it, what stops it from happening? “Alpha?” I almost flinched at Xavier’s voice. I didn’t turn to him.“What

Lloyd's POVAfter Elora left the room with Lena, I walked to the seat Elora had abandoned and sat down. My mind was bothered by the urgency of the cleansing ritual and the things Lena claimed Davina told her. For some reasons, I felt Lena held back on what Davina told her, but I also didn’t want to get on her bad side since she has agreed to help us. “You don’t look so bright today, Alpha,” Xavier noted. “Is it because of the situation last night?”“What situation?” I gave him a sharp look.He hesitated. “The one between you and Elora. The one you’ve refused to say anything about.”I dragged my gaze away from his face and leaned back, hanging my gaze on the ceiling. The gold lines on the white ceiling seemed to fade in and out. I blinked my eyes closed. “I told you we are cool,” I said.“Are you sure about that?” Xavier asked. “Because you don’t sound so sure.”“Are you doubting me right now?” I threw the question back at him. He didn’t reply immediately. The silence let me go ba

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   127_A Failed Lie

Elora's POVMy body went cold and my chest tightened, but I managed to recover myself in time to glance back and sideways. When I noticed that there was no one in sight. I drew her into the kitchen.“What the hell are you talking about?” I hushed with urgency.“Don’t try to act dumb,” Lena scoffed. “I tried to give you hints in the room that we were alike, but you pretended like you didn’t know what I was saying.”“Because I don’t understand a thing about what you are saying,” I replied. “And I wish I did.”“We are mages,” she said. “And you seem to be perfect around here, where mages are supposed to be hidden. You managed to get married, and you—”“You have zero idea about who I am,” I spat. “Because if you do, you wouldn’t act like an entitled brat who doesn’t understand the first thing about respect!” My voice was below a whisper, but it was too sharp. Too strong.“You called me an entitled brat?” She flared. “I saved your ass back there when your Alpha and supposed lover wanted m

Elora's POVThe ebony mage sounded like she knew a lot more than she was letting on, and that worried me.We just revealed that her great-grandmother appeared to us, and she reacted like she knew so much about it. I was tired of running into all the spare relationships since we began the serious work of tracing down sorcery and finding the people engaged in it. Lena looked like another distraction, and I don’t think we are willing to tolerate that at all.“What’s wrong?” I asked as calmly as possible, even when every nerve in me yelled to go sarcastic. Lena turned to me, her hair slightly dishevelled from raking it too much.“I don’t know, I don’t know…I’ve been seeing Davina in my dreams for some time now, and there is stuff she’s been telling me. Stuff about some occult…CC…Crimson Circle?” Lena looked up at me, then dragged her gaze to Lloyd. “Does any of this make any sense?” I asked.Lloyd and I shared a look, and I replied before Lloyd could talk. “It depends.”“My mom said i

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   124_The Cold Reveal

Elora's POVAfter we managed to get the lady who introduced herself as Lena Kimber, we sat in the study still debating the matter of the Kimber witch. Right now, I was almost swayed, believing that Lloyd was somehow right with his proposition. But I was still trying to dismiss it as a coincidence.“For all it’s worth, all of this could be a huge coincidence,” I said weakly, leaning back on the couch facing Lloyd. He didn’t reply. His gaze was glued on the space around his desk, as if Davina Kimber was standing somewhere around there without my knowledge.“I don’t think so,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life.”“What makes you so sure?” I asked. He looked at me as if he was just seeing me for the first time. “Don’t you see it? First, witchy-bitchy appears to me, suddenly interested to help my cause, then suddenly the witch chosen is her daughter, and suddenly her granddaughter is on my side again?”I blinked. “Uh…who is witchy-
