CIARA'S POV

The forest was dark. The kind of darkness that felt alive, crawling across my skin with sticky fingers. My feet were bare, slicing against roots and thorns, but I kept running. I didn’t know where I was going. Just away. Away from them.

A twig snapped.

My heart stopped.

Then I saw them.

Ronan. Ewan. Brigid.

They stepped out from the trees like they had always belonged to the shadows. All three of them held knives, silver catching moonlight like it wanted to mock me. I stumbled back, but they were already moving. Brigid moved first, her blade slicing my arm before I could scream. I kicked out, punched wildly, tried to run—but they surrounded me.

The knives came down again.

And again.

Hot pain seared through my body. My blood hit the leaves, soaking into the ground like it belonged there.

I was losing.

I was dying.

“Please,” I sobbed. “Please don’t. Please, I’m begging you.”

Brigid stepped forward, blood splattered on her face like war paint. She plunged her knife into my th

SPECIAL CHAPTER: SARAH’S POVThe hallway was noisy, kids brushing past with their bags and half-finished conversations, but I kept my eyes fixed on the floor, not wanting to catch anyone’s attention. I walked with purpose, even though my mind was racing. I could still hear those girls’ voices from class, echoing in my head, the ones who couldn’t stop talking about Ciara like she was some goddess fallen to earth. Even when she wasn’t in the room, she managed to pull the air out of it.I didn’t want to think about her. I was tired of thinking about her. Today was supposed to be about me, about Ronan, about our bond and everything I’d been waiting for. I kept reminding myself of that, the same way I’d reminded myself all morning. It was just, when I saw him with Ewan, something knotted tight in my chest. My feet slowed as I neared the end of the hall. There, just before the main staircase, Ronan stood with Ewan tucked close, their faces inches apart, heads bent together. I stopped so sud

CIARA’S POVThe lecture hall buzzed with the Professor’s droning voice about meridian convergence points, but I wasn't listening. Neither was anyone else. Every head had swiveled when the door creaked open ten minutes late, and Saraphina Maychild had slipped inside. She moved like a ghost trying not to rattle chains. Her shoulders were hunched, her eyes fixed on the floor, sliding along the back wall toward the only empty seat by the grimy window. The whispering started before she'd even sat down."That's her, right? The one who—""With Alpha Bastien? Darragh's father?""Gamma blood thinks she can climb the ladder on her back."My pen snapped in half.Pippa glanced at me, eyebrows raised. Even Tessa, sitting in the row behind us, leaned forward with that hungry look she got when gossip was fresh."You must know the real story," Tessa whispered, her breath warm against my ear. "You and Darragh are mated. She's going to be family, right? What actually happened?"I turned in my seat. Tes

EWAN’S POVThis chapter contains themes of unhealthy familial relationships and incestuous innuendo. Reader discretion is advised.I slipped into class just as the last bell rang, my head pounding from too little sleep and too much thinking. The room buzzed with the leftover chatter of students still high off last night’s drama. I scanned the rows, hoping to slip in unnoticed, but that never really worked for me. My brother was already there, sitting by the window, one hand draped over the empty seat beside him. Waiting. But Eamon was here early too, and he’d saved me a seat on the other side of the room. His hand rested on the backrest, his steel eyes searching for me with a quiet question. I froze. Two seats, two choices. Ronan gave a little half-wave, cool and confident, like he expected me to choose him. Eamon, on the other hand, just offered a soft smile and a nod. That felt safer, less like walking into a trap.I knew what Ronan would believe but it was time I made it clear I re

SPECIAL CHAPTER: SARAH’S POVI woke up with the worst taste in my mouth. My head felt like it had been stuffed with wool, and every time I moved, my stomach churned. I must have thrown up last night. I could still smell it on my skin, sour and sticky. I groaned and rolled onto my back, blinking at the ceiling. For a second, I didn’t know where I was, then it all came rushing back—the party, the fight with Ciara, and Ronan.Ronan. The memory of the night before made my chest flutter, pushing away the shame and nausea for a moment. I touched my lips and smiled. I’d finally done it. I’d found my mate. Not just any mate, but Ronan. The Ronan everyone whispered about in the hallways of Lunaris, the boy whose attention girls fought over, and last night, he was mine. It had been perfect. Better than perfect. I could still feel the heat of his hands on my waist, the way the bond snapped into place between us. The Goddess had finally seen me.I reached for my phone, ready to text him, then sto

CIARA’S POVMorning sunlight crept through the thin curtains, painting stripes on the floor. I was still wrapped in my towel, standing in the cramped bathroom, staring at my reflection. My hair hung limp and tangled, skin blotchy from too little sleep and too much thinking. I pressed my palms to the cold sink, willing myself to feel something other than dread.Behind the closed door, I could hear Pippa moving about quietly. Somewhere deeper in the room, Sarah snored. The sound was almost comforting, but I knew what was waiting for me if I tried to wake her.I glanced down at my ruined pajamas, still crumpled from last night. No way was I leaving them on the floor. I scooped them up, dropped them into the laundry basket by the door, and made sure nothing else was left behind. Even then, I could still smell the sourness from where Sarah had thrown up on me, clinging to my skin no matter how many times I scrubbed.I dried off and got dressed, pulling on my uniform for the day, smoothing

SARAPHINA’S POVThe sky outside my window was turning the color of faded denim. Dawn, just beginning to creep in, found me sitting at the edge of my bed, staring at the half-packed bag by my feet. I'd been awake all night, listening to my heart pound in my ears, but the rest of the dorm had finally come to life, footsteps thudding and doors slamming open and shut. My head throbbed from lack of sleep, but at least it kept my mind too tired to think about Eamon, or Darragh, or what I'd done.I stuffed my last sweater into the bag and zipped it shut. My hands were shaking, but I kept my face blank. The room was thick with tension. My roommates, all three of them, pretended to busy themselves. They weren't fooling anyone. One of them, Tessa, the one with the blonde braid and the loudest voice, looked over her shoulder at the others. She didn't bother lowering her voice. "So what, do you think she'll get a new room or something? Maybe cry to the administration about us bullying her?"The g
